Low carb dining

Just hung up with Disney and they noted on all my reservations no/low carb. The CM said the Chef will come out and tell me what is what and if need be make something different from the menu. She also said each CS has a list of food items and what the carb/sugar/sodium etc count is, I just have to ask for it.

Lets hope all goes according to plan! Thanks again everyone!

Unless things have changed quite recently, the information about counter service restaurants is not exactly true.

My understanding is that each CS place DOES have a binder with all of the *ingredients* for each item they sell. This does not, however, provide you with carb counts or any other nutrition information...ONLY the ingredients.

At any rate, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time with lots of yummy food! You're doing everything you need to do in order to get your dietary needs met, and you'll be just fine once you're there!

Been meaning to post this since we returned the end of last month but time just got away from me.

Being a low/no carb eater I was so worried about going to WDW for F&W. I did bring Atkins bars and shakes with me and that helped alot but honestly it was much easier than I thought it would be

At the TS locations I had no trouble getting veggies instead of rice/pasta/potatoes. At Nine Dragons and Teppen Edo they did charge me $2 for broccoli...I had a more difficult time with it at TE than ND though. At Tutto Italia it was easy asking for the veggie of the day instead of the carb sides.

When we had breakfast at Kona I was able to order scrambled eggs and meats and a side of tomato slices...the cost was the same as the Kahuna Platter. Boma was the best for my way of eating as they had wonderful carved meats, roasted tomatoes and grilled asparagus, not to mention omelets and specialty scrambled eggs that flavors changed daily

CS locations were easy too...I ordered a side of scrambled eggs and it was a very large serving. I could also order a side or raspberries or strawberries and Splenda is all over WDW so I could sprinkle that on top. Love the taco salads, really enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich without the bun and a hot dog hold the bun. At HS, Fairfax Fries, I wanted a sausage egg sandwich without the muffin and they made me a sandwich with 2 eggs, 2 cheese and 2 sausage patties...it was great!

I did treat myself with a bite of taboo foods here and there...just one or two bites two-three times a day.

When I came home and weighed myself after 11 days in WDW I was so happy to see I lost 2 lbs!!!

That's great!

What about the business you were told about nutritional info sheets with carb/sodium/etc counts at the CS locations? Is that true now? I'm OK with my carb status at this point, but sodium is the problem for my mother (heart condition). Sodium is 'hidden' even more than carbs are because sometimes it's how the underlying food was prepared or preserved (example: can of green beans from brand A has 390 mg/sodium; brand B has 10 mg. They look & taste about the same; it's just the process used by the canner). In the grocery store we can stand and read the labels, but at someplace like Disney, not so much. And at TS restaurants you can at least talk to the chef, but at CS you're usually on your own.

At the CS there was a food list but it was for ingredients, I overheard the cashier at Peco Bills tell a family about it. I never asked for it because I knew what I was going to order, just a taco salad and I knew I wasnt going to eat the shell.

I did note on all my dining reservations about low/no carb and the only place that mentioned it was at Tutto Italia. No other place asked me any questions at all but luckily I was able to figure it out..for the most part ;)

I'm so glad you posted a follow-up report and thrilled to hear they still have Splenda. I thought I had read, awhile back, that they no longer offered Splenda and was planning to take my own. It's nice to know I don't have to. :thumbsup2 Congrats on the2 lbs!!!!! You did good!!
