Your favorite "lesser known" Christmas Songs

Lorena McKennitt's recording of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen"

The entire album, "John Denver and The Muppets: A Christmas Together." My favorite song is When The River Meets the Sea.

My favorite-est you can't find anywhere. I had to go on ebay and buy an old CD to hear it. It is called "The Tumbleweed Christmas Tree" by Andy Wilkenson.
Just found it on Amazon! Best Christmas song EVER!!! (especially if you are Texan.)
Tumbleweed Christmas

My new favorite humorous song has to be the Kung Pow Buckaroo Holiday

This isn't exactly a song, but is anyone familiar with -
Dear Santa, from the Wayne Newton Album, Merry Christmas To You. (1970)

It's a child's reading of the letter he wrote to Santa. In the letter, he talks about how Santa must have moved because last year they sent his letter to the North Pole. This year, he ask Santa to give his toys to the kid down the road, "Cause he don't get many," and then he goes on to tell Santa, he cried last night, "Cause of what I want for Christmas, I want my Daddy."

The child's voice is adorable, and it is heartbreaking because at the end, Wayne Newton comes on to sing...

This coming year,
No Christmas cheer
because I won't
be home to hear
Merry Christmas Daddy.
and a Happy New Year.

I always figured it was about a father in the Vietnam War.

Another of my favorites is not just a Christmas song, but we get to hear it more often during the Xmas season... Let There Be Peace on Earth.

All I Want for Christmas is You -- NOT the Mariah Carey version. This one is by Vince Vance & the Valliants & is a totally different song. I crank the radio and really belt it out the rare times I hear it.

Blech. Mariah Carey and Christmas music. Should be a law against that.

Off to google the version you are talking about!

Ev'rybody's Waiting for the Man With the Bag by Kay Starr

Seconded!

Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses is my all time favorite. I love the Brass!!!
:cool1:

Yes! My youngest sister, 8, *LOVES* their version of 12 Days of Christmas. We have so much fun singing along, doing all the different voices lol, and doing the dramatic Miss Piggy parts. :goodvibes

I'm blanking on some more lesser-known ones that I enjoy to list and I don't have my iPod handy, lol. I greatly enjoy Petit Papa Noel by Josh Groban, but I'm sure his version made that a well-known song.

I love Trans Siberian. I could listen to my CD for days and days.
Mary, Did you Know?
Jewell's version of O Holy Night. Just beautiful.
Where are you Christmas? Faith Hill

And for pure fun (and so many of my childhood memories)
The Twelve Pains of Christmas
"Rigging up the lights."
"Now, why the hell are they blinking?"
"I need a drink." :rotfl:

Good Times!
