We had an absolutely awesome trip at the Fort last week. :cool1: We are DVC members and usually stay at resorts but as a camping family how could we not try it. I think we will always be camping there from now on using our points. I cant stay enough good things!!!! :thumbsup2

After a long nights drive from NJ we arrived a day early planning on a local hotel for the night but I got to thinking and called WDW and asked for a extra day added on. The woman at the fort said "No problem, head on over and we'll be waiting for you"!! WOO HOO :drive: I never saw my hubby drive so fast!!!

We arrived very happily and talk with the Cast member at the check-in booth about the NJ weather disaster we encountered while she tried to get us a site close to the comfort stations. After 30 minutes of chatting and a "I need to clarify this site" she returned with "Well unfortunately there were no Popup sites near comfort stations, so I had to upgrade you to a premium site in loop 1000 and also we have a Campfire gift set for you to enjoy one evening"................ I was speechless and elated at the same time. pixiedust:

Our site was 1003 and perfect. Only downfall was we have a very large 14ft highwall Popup and I had to look at these HUGE Class A RVs all week. Jealousy took over and I convinced DH to upgrade to a Class C so we go hunting this weekend. ::yes::

We rented a Golf Cart from Kenny and that was the highlight of my kids trip. We spent many hours looping and exploring. ;)

The Fort emptied out around Tuesday afternoon and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Pool days went from only my kids to maybe 3-4 more. Buses were empty as well as boats. Campfires brought in other resort guests and made for a fun time. We walked up to any restaurant and maybe waited 10 minutes for a table. We stuffed and I mean stuffed ourselves at the TE buffets for both breakfast and dinner multiple times. :hyper:

After 8 days of bliss we had to leave  and now that we are home I cant wait to go back ASAP. Hopefully next time in a new RV. :thumbsup2

I thank everyone here on the boards for all the input about the Fort. It made planning so easy. :grouphug:

Sounds like you had a wonderful time

I know what you mean about fort withdrawals

what is a "campfire gift set"?

Not sure if you can buy the gift set, I never actually saw it anywhere. I believe she package it herself, it was graham crackers, chocolate bars & marshmallows wrapped in a disney plastic wrap with a bow and a stick for each of us to roast marshmallows. It was so cute.

So happy you had a great time and that you were surprised with an upgrade! :cool1: It certainly was a great time to be able to get away from the mess up here. Don't you wish you could stay there forever!! We head down in April and we are counting the days!

Oh and holy cow you live in Burlington?!? I'm in Cinnaminson!

Hi there Cinnaminson!!! Hope you came through the storm ok!! We could not get ours fast enough!! Just needed to be away from reality for a bit and it sucked to come home!! But planning has begun again!! :woohoo:

:cool1: The one time I stayed in loop 1000 I was in 1003 too!

I think that is the one because it has the little walking trail next to it that goes to the Comfort Station in 900 loop. The site is actually right behind the CS if I recall properly.

Hey, don't be jelly about all those big beautiful RVs. If you've got a 14' highwall then its me who should be jelly with my little ol' 12' highwall. :lmao:

This is a nice time crowd wise and weatherwise at the Fort. The after-Halloween crowd has gone home. The Thanksgiving crowd has not yet arrived. And Trails End is free for the grazing.

I admire you folks who make that multi-day drive to the Fort and back. We are in mid-Alabama and can make it back and forth in a full day.:disrocks:

Hey bama ed: we are 3 1/2 days to get to the fort! Well maybe a little less if we drive more than 450 miles in a day but we might as well enjoy ourselves driving down. Headed back in Feb again but not to fort this time, next trip to the Fort: Dec 2014 for DW and I 40th wedding anniv.

We haven't been there since April I've had the "shakes"since May so I know what you mean!
Vets day week is our favorite time to be at the Fort but with both kids in High School there's no way we can go.Have to wait it out until April unless we become wealthy before then.

Missing the lght displays,fanowalt

Well good for you rajak! 40 years (oh my). I just passed 25, me and the missus.

I need to adopt your attitude about taking the travel a little slower and smelling the roses along the way. ::yes::
