Premium Annual Passes for DVC Members for $399!

We (my daughters and I) purchased AP's over the summer and the CM at guest relations wouldn't give us current gate price for our passes. He said bridging wasn't allowed anymore for tics purchased through discount sellers. He would only give us what we paid for them.

How did he know how much you paid for them?

Not sure. It does say on the back WHEN I purchased them. Maybe he had some sort of reference on his computer. He did know EXACTLY how much I paid though. :confused3

Did you activate (use them at least once) before attempting to upgrade? This process should always be used.... Since by passing through the turnstiles it should make it impossible to see the price, and default to the current gate price when the CM scans your ticket for upgrade.

Yes, activated them the day before. This would have been day 2 on our park hoppers.

We purchased DVC PAP vouchers earlier this year & have not yet used them. We are going to WDW in early December. I understand that Disney doesn't typically issue credits/refunds, but what do you think the odds are for getting these vouchers changed to the DVC PAP (at $399 each) & receiving a credit? For our four tickets, we're talking quite a bit of difference in cost (a pretty hefty credit).
If we had purchased AP vouchers, they would be upgraded. My complaint is that we spent the extra money to buy what is now costing $399 each (we spent $524 each!). Just seems like we got a bum deal by paying for these PAP vouchers ahead of time. Sigh.

If you think we have a chance, would you suggest calling or trying MS after we get there? (I've been wanting to call, but haven't had the time due to a hospital stay)

You unfortunately hit a CM who did not know what he was doing.

Basically he only tickets which are not price-bridged are those sold directly by Disney in person at WDW or by phone or online and if there is a price increase after the tickets are purchased.

If you have a package, Disney Ticket Operations "sells" the tickets that will be in a package to Walt Disney Travel Company at a wholesale price so those tickets can be bridged.

Basically price bridging is designed to allow you to keep any discount you had when you bought a ticket when you do any upgrade.

I always say that you should know in advance what you should be paying on any upgrade, and if the amount is off my more than a few cents and the person at the window will not see the problem, cancel the transaction and go to another window.

And for ttepsich, if you take your tickets to a Guest Relations Office at one of the Parks they may be able to research them and possibly give you a refund of the overcharge.

Good morning all.

I'm sure that this question has been answered at some point in the thread, but we've just decided to shake up our lives by going to WDW instead of DL.

Question is that we won't be able to come out to WDW until 2014. Is it possible to get in on this deal and activate the AP's over the phone before the end of 2013, or are we out of luck, because AP's can only be activated in person?

Thanks.

I believe it was said that if you buy it now or by the end of the year, that you have 1 year to activate it. Which means say you bought it december 15 2012, you could activate it December 13 2013 and it will be good for the annual passes until Dec 2014.

Does this sound right?

Now over the phone i do not know...

Unfortunately you are out of luck. The voucher would have to be purchased by 12/31/12 and activated in person at Walt Disney World by 12/31/13. All individual passholders would have to be present in order to activate their vouchers.

We had vouchers (5 PAP) we purchased earlier this year, and took them to guest services when we arrived last week, and they actually gave us a gift card that covered the difference between what we paid and the discounted costs. We got over $500 back on a gift card. Not sure if that is policy or not, you your mileage might very. I walked in with the mindset that if I even got $1 back I would be more than happy. I had my receipt with me to show what I paid.

To activate any AP at WDW you must be physically present at a ticket or Guest Relations window, and each person 18 or older must presnt a photo ID with their address and birth date on it.

bgartz - oh, thank you so much. It's nice to know that there's at least a chance! A gift card would be awesome. I hope we get the same CM. :)

I think I know the answer but I'm going to ask it anyway.

I have a package under the S/D/P special for Feb 2013 with a one day base ticket. If I buy the DVC PAP before 12/31/12, and activate it in Feb 2013, any chance I can get a credit for my package ticket in the form of a gift card?

As others responded, you need to be there in person. However, you might want to consider a short trip just to activate. That's what we are thinking of.

No. However, as long as the one day ticket does not have an expiration date, it can be kept and applied toward a future pass purchase.

I'm still confused about a possible 2 year savings? I found this on dvcnews.com:

"Beginning on October 1, Disney Vacation Club members are eligible to purchase a Walt Disney World Premium Annual Pass for just $399. *That's a savings of $300 off the normal price. *
Additionally, members can also purchase a PAP voucher to be redeemed in 2013, giving some two full years worth of heavily discounted admission. *"

I bought the discounted PAPs and plan to activate them on our May 2013 trip. Is there an additional voucher I can buy?

( or was this referring to those who bought the PAP in 2012, activated it in 2012, and then bought a voucher to redeem by the end of 2013? )

No.

(Well, technically yes but there would be some overlap. According to Cheshire Figment you can have multiple active APs at one time. So if you were returning in late 2013 you could active a second set of vouchers and have admission running through the same date in 2014. It wouldn't be two full years in this case, but still more than one year.)

Correct.

Thanks TJKRAZ!! Don't think I'll do the dual passes... doesn't really make sense to me unless we were going in Jan.

Appreciate the super fast reply! :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone who responded.

Mr. Shiny - unfortunately the $2000 it will cost in flights alone to get from Western Canada to Orlando to save $900 on 3 AP's, kind of precludes a short trip in 2013 just to activate the passes... It was a good thought though.

A quick message to report that we purchased vouchers in person at AK Guest Services and used two new-and-unused one-day park tickets from earlier this year. Cost per PAP, after application of tickets (which, of course we'd already paid for), about $300. Good deal.
