Disney 'Magic Band' RFID bracelet revealed!!

I recently made a call to Disney because in 2013 it will be the first time we have purchased a complete package (typically we have other ways of getting cheap tickets, etc.). When I asked if they would be sending the park tickets via mail or if I would just pick them up there, they stated that I would be getting a device that would count as my park ticket, room key, and could be used to redeem my DDP points. I'm wondering if this is the bracelet?

When in 2013?

But anyway it could be this bracelet or a still a card with an RFID chip in it.

Or it could just be a traditional KTTW card.

The fact that they called it a "device" certainly raises some eyebrows. But since it came from a phone CM, and they would likely tell me I couldn't get into the MK until 7 PM with a party ticket...... I'm not sure how much stock I'd put into it.

Yes using that term is very interesting. :scratchin

I love this idea. Last trip my wife lost her KTTW and panic ensued. Of course we were able to call right away and have it canceled and was able to pick up a new one at the Resort, but the bracelet is better. No more taking your cards out of your pocket, purse or lanyard.

While they are already tracking the use of attractions, the RFID technology will allow near real time collection of data. This should allow them to make changes faster and provide a better experience.

Yes I didn't realize the idea of not carrying an extra card. I hate every time pulling the card out usually in a hurry hoping not to loose anything else you have in your purse or wallet. The brackets is looking better.

When these were first rumored, what a year ago, it was figured that "regular ticket stock" would also be RFID chipped. Like they did for the trial at Epcot.

This wrist band replaces the KTTW card.

I know the last time we stayed at SSR in November they were activly changing the door locks to proximity readers and the CM said the idea was you would have one key for your whole stay including DCL and split stay resort bookings.
Just a thought maybe this is the next step.

Oh good lord. Not another NickHotel gig.

In my opinion, the wristband thing is just annoying. Hopefully, they'll be removable so you can take it off and put it back on.

It apears to be simular to a watch band and removable.

I'll admit, I've only made it 1/2 way though this thread.

I honestly don't care of they track my every move through the park. I do like the concept behind using RFID. Rather than having to scan your ticket / card all you have to do is wave it in front of the sensor to get:

Into the park.
Get a FP
Get into your hotel room (if you stay on site)
etc.

The part that I don't like is having to wear a wrist band. I can't stand anything on my wrists (no watch, no bracelet, no long sleeves, etc). Anytime I go somewhere that I have to ware one of those temp wrist bands, my enjoyment is diminished, because it is bothering me all the time. One way that might make the wristbands tolerable would be to have some sort of wicking fabric on the underside, so that the sweat doesn't build up and make the plastic all sticky and uncomfortable. I assume that they will be removable, so that you don't have to sleep and shower in them for a week plus.

Which brings me to my next complaint. What about the kids. Are they going to have to wear their own bracelet? If so, and they are removable, what will keep them from getting tired of it, taking it off, and dropping it on the ground, only to find out (as parents) 30 minutes later they they took it off in the middle of the cue to buzz light year or two "lands" away, or dropped it in the flower bed when we stopped to rest, etc.

What about tickets you buy from from 3rd party vendors? (i.e AAA). Are all of those going to be the RFID chipped wristback? (currently such tickets are paper not plastic like the KTTK card). Or will they be a voucher that will have to be redeemed once you get to the parks, adding yet another hurdle to jump through on your first day (don't underestimate the millions of people that pre-buy their tickets before even traveling).

And if these are going to be used for FPs as well, how do I know what my return time(s) is? With the paper tickets I could look at it and remind myself. However, if it is all coded in the RFID chip, that is a problem. Will there be 100s of scanners through the parks that I can use to check my FP times?

Someone is probably going to say "this isn't even implemented yet, wait to see how it is going to work before you start complaining." The problem what that is, once they do finally announce how it is going to work, it will be a done deal, and the process will be set in stone. So at that point what is the point of complaining about something you can't change.

I know that Disney doesn't actively monitor this forum, however there are many CMs that do. My hope is that these concerns will be floated up the chain by these CMs.

First they are not paper but a layered plastic called tyvek. But it would be very easy to add a RFID chip to the ticket stock. During trials they used an RFID sticker.

As for you other points it really is a we just don't know and as for CM's reading these posts and passing the info up I doubt it would be anywhere near the decision makers.

So it really is lets wait and see. To me it seems like this will start to move once they get past the official opening of the FLE. But thats just my own thoughts.

Anybody else notice they are assembled in China? So much for made in the USA

I totally agree....you can never tell what dangerous materials china may put in the unit without Disney's knowledge............not to mention it could easily been made in the US as I am sure Americans designed the thing. Almostall the items made in china are designed in other countries.
