Resort Board Community :) .... General Resorts discussion, open to all!! :)

I've never stayed at BC, but we did eat dinner there on our last trip. I'm sure it is an amazing place to stay, but it just didn't do it for me. I think b/c it was so similar (in decor) to the places we stay when we go to the beach (on the Gulf Coast). I prefer something different than what I'm used to.

THIS is why I have never stayed at POR and WL. I grew up in South Carolina and POR just seems like same ol same ol for decor I saw on a daily basis growing up. I now live in Wisconsin and the "northwoods" theme is all over the place up here. I like having a themed decor at WDW that takes me away from the normal. I love the Poly theme because it makes me feel like I am on an island vacation while at WDW. We also enjoyed the theming at CSR.

Great idea! :thumbsup2 While the GF may be my #1, we stay all over the place. We've actually spent quite a bit of time in the Epcot area the past 10 years, mainly at BWV with some BWI, BC, and BCV thrown in. BWV/BWI is the clear favorite. I want to get to the YC, but they never seem to have discounts when we're going. While we usually stay on DVC points, if we do stay at the resorts on cash I take a resort with a discount over paying rack rate.

For next year, we're planning on trying BLT. It's been a while since we've stayed at the CR, and I can't believe the CA Grill will be closed (we ate there last month and had another fantastic dinner).

Poly and WL have always been special, too. WL was my first Disney resort, and we've returned to stay at the lodge and VWL many times since. It's been a while longer since we stayed at Poly. Something about the thought of looking over at the GF makes me want to be there.

The only of the deluxe resorts that I wouldn't rush back to is AKL. We had a nice stay there, love the theme, but it just doesn't have that same feeling to me that the other resorts have. We were actually booked at Kidani Village this year, but then had a BWV waitlist come through. I do hope to try Kidani at some point in the future.

Hey Cali-D!!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I remember you were a huge BWI fan there for a long time after we finally got you away from the GF. ;) I agree the CL really is phenomenal, we need to get back over there sometime soon. Funny you mention BLT, we are going to be staying there for the first time too, in January. I'm looking forward to trying it out... I've read a lot of good and bad reports. Since I'm currently in love with the FLE I think walking back and forth from BLT will be perfect for me. :thumbsup2

I know you love the GF, we have always had that in common you and I. :lovestruc Saturday when I was walking on the Poly beach I took this pic:

I am really getting excited about the villas! Do you think they'll be able to capture the true theme and luxury of the GF?? I'm picking out my villa right there on the corner facing MK. ;) I'm thinking a nice fireworks view from a double sized 2 br villa balcony would be perfect!!! :cloud9:

Good to see you!!!!!!!!

I'm glad I opened this thread ~ I'd love to join in!

We don't have a home resort, either, although I would love for it to be Wilderness Lodge! Unfortunately, that won't happen now that we are a family of 5. We loved our recent stay at Poly ~ I thought it would be "the one" and when I mentioned booking again my DH asked why we would stay there since we already had:confused3 I guess he's in the boat that wants to try everything!

I'm actually in the process of looking for a place to stay ~ off site, yikes! ~ for our next trip (which won't be until 2014). But we, well I, want to stay 10 days so that we can do SeaWorld, DH and oldest DD can do a day at Universal, and then we can still have a proper amount of time at WDW, lol! So we need more than just a room.

mousemommy1 ~ what happened to Poly?! Going to go read what I missed!
I'm Stevie, btw!! Now I"m g

Welcome!!! :wave2: I don't know much about staying off property, but I've heard there are a lot of nice resorts in the area. :)

GREAT PICS!!! I love you and Gaston :)

I am happy you posted the LM videos too. When he had FP's, DS said he didn't want to go because he was sure there would be a lot of music (he has aspergers and is sensitive to music). DD and I never made it back, but now I know to plan around DS not being able to go on it after hearing the music. Thank you!

He's my new boyfriend! ;) Don't we make a nice couple!! When I saw him I walked over and said "I JUST WANT TO SQUEEZE YOU!!!" He said, "Well of course you do! Come here!" :lmao::lmao:

What a fabulous thread...and I see lots of friendly faces here :grouphug:

Home resort...I wish I could say GF, but I LOVE WL, heck I love all things Disney...:goodvibes

Maybe we can just say WDW is our home resort! :thumbsup2 Good to see you!!! :)

Guess our home is CR/GF/YC, lol!

LOL!!! :rotfl: My home resort is Poly/GF/YC/Kidani/AnywhereAsLongAsIamInWDW :woohoo:

When we stay off site, we love the Lake Buena Vista Resort Village & Spa

We can spread out with plenty of room (and bathrooms), full kitchen, jacuzzi tub in master, and great location.

Thanks for the link ~ I'll have to check it out!

See, I'm drawn to them because they are like home! Modeled after New England Beach resorts! As you can see, I'm a New England girl! Lol!

I just like the decor so much more. It's no secret that I hate the decor at the Poly. :duck:
It's just not attractive to me at all in those rooms. The outer grounds look awesome and I can't wait to see what they do with the refurb...maybe it will be appealing to me then!

I think the BC/YC rooms are gorgeous, and that is important as that's where I lay my head. Every time I book the Poly, I picture myself returning to that room every day and just can't fathom it. Different strokes for different folks, you know??

I absolutely loved the WL refurb!!! So cozy and comfy!!! I would have honestly had a hard time keeping my ressie there if there had been no refurb, I hated those old rooms too!!

I totally get that!! I was a little worried about the darkness of the rooms, and IMO, they weren't dark at all:confused3 The screen door is huge, so we left the curtain pulled open and had lots of light! Another reason we ended up going Poly is b/c the rooms were so large (I think I read Tokelau was around 460 sf) ~ and DH wanted to biggest room ~ and I liked Poly theme better than CR. I would LOVE to be able to stay at Wilderness Lodge again...the size of the room doesn't really matter to me, but DH is footing the bill, sooooooooooo...

I love the look of AKL, but don't really have a desire to stay there...just seems so remote, especially since we usually just do one day at Animal Kingdom.

Right now our home resort would be the BC. We have stayed at all the deluxe resorts except AKL, but fell in love with the BC the first time we arrived there. We had taken our first, and only, cruise on the old Big Red Boat in 1992 and the resort that they put us at the BC. We have stayed there ever since except for the times that it was booked. Then we stayed at the YC and BWI because we love the boardwalk area. Being able to walk into Epcot and DHS are the main reasons we love it.

But after at least nine stays at an Epcot resort, we are very excited to try something new. So we decided to go to the Wilderness Lodge in February. I have always loved the mountains and we don't get anything like that here in the Midwest. The theme of the WL is very appealing to me. I know that I will miss not being able to run into Epcot to watch Illuminations while DH crashes for the night. But we will be with our grandchildren on this trip and MK is the main attraction for them right now. I can't wait. :)

So much progress has been made since I was there in July!!! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see the finished product!!! :yay:

You might end up feeling the way I do about MK vs Epcot... we like to switch back and forth. For example, this year we started off at the GF in January, spent a majority of our time at MK, ate dinner at all the monorail resorts, etc. Then in March we stayed at the YC, ate at Epcot almost every night, spent a ton of time there and at the Studios, only went to MK once. To me it feels like taking a totally different vacation. :thumbsup2 And as annual passholders who go frequently I think we need a change of scenery with new resort experiences each trip to keep the kids interested and to keep my DH from getting bored.

I bet you end up loving WL! :goodvibes

I have a feeling that I will love WL. :goodvibes My daughter, who was ten years old the first time that we stayed at the BC, has never stayed anywhere else (except for one time at the YC and a short weekend at the Polynesian when I did the Disney half-marathon). Her family will be at the WL with us and she already says that she thinks this will be her new favorite resort. And she hasn't even been there yet. ;)

When I stayed at the Polynesian for a long weekend in 2002 it really fell short when compared to the BC. Sure, the rooms were bigger and the location of our building next to the TTC was great. But the room was not as richly furnished as a BC room. And I hated the long walk in the cold rain (it was January) to get a cup of coffee. The lobby was annoying with its multiple levels and the restaurants seemed loud and cold. I like everything under one roof, which is why I think the WL will be perfect.

I Live in the NW and still love WL :goodvibes. It still feels different, and love walking into that lobby!

Stopping by to check out the new Thread! We also love so many resorts, so I tend to hop around the threads, and am more active on the one I'm staying at for the next trip. Love the BC/YC thread. Lots of wonderful info there.

Hey, I know you :goodvibes

Guess our home is CR/GF/YC, lol!
I guess we are on the quest to find our "home" so far we stayed at YC in Sep, WL in Oct and have CR coming up in Dec. Right now YC is holding in first place :thumbsup2 Of course DH would rather our home be at a mod but I told him no more values or mods

He's my new boyfriend! ;) Don't we make a nice couple!! When I saw him I walked over and said "I JUST WANT TO SQUEEZE YOU!!!" He said, "Well of course you do! Come here!" :lmao::lmao:

Very cute couple! I hope you gave a good squeeze

That is the main reason I loved the WL so much ~ everything was right there in one building. Which meant you got to pass through the lobby everytime you came and went. Maybe one day we will save enough to stay in one of the CL suites that will accomodate a family of 5. I guess we could do DVC, but that still wouldn't be the same...for me anyway.

We have never done CL. But we have done a villa - the BCV. The villas are great. They have a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. The extra large whirlpool bathtub in the master bathroom is wonderful after a busy day. And the separate living room is really nice. I would prefer that to CL any day. :)

Good to see you!!!!!!!!

Such a fantastic picture! I have my fingers crossed that the villas will be a more modern take on luxury with victorian touches, which would lead to a renovation of the resort rooms. I'm very anxious to see them. Hoping they make the perfect addition to the resort. I'm going to try to stay there shortly after opening if all goes right.

i think the lobby and grounds are great. It is the room decor that gives me that "feels like back home" vibe. I will say I LOVE the newly remodeled bathroom tiles in the shower. So adorable.

I guess I just want to feel like I am in a "different world" while on vacation. That is one of the reasons I love WDW. They created so many different resort experiences for their guests that we can pick and choose the themes that appeal to us and create a different magical experience on each vacation. They are so smart:thumbsup2
