Biggest Loser Run/Walker Thread 2012/13--Everyone Welcome! :)

How is everyone? I am having a major flareup of my back/hip/glute issues. It stresses me out a bit with the race on Saturday, but mostly I am more stressed out about flying. Something about sitting still and not moving that makes it worse. I have no idea what caused it to be so bad right now. It started Monday and has just been getting worse and none of my usual ways of dealing with it are helping.

Hope everyone is having a good week. :goodvibes

Oh Rose :worried: hoping it works itself out by race time- call me crazy:dance3:- but I am running 3 races in 12 day time span- The W/D 1/2 on Saturday, 1 week later the St. Augustine 10k on Nov 17 and the the YMCA Turkey Trot 5k on the 22nd:eek: if that doesn't help me in training for the Full in January nothing will:goodvibes! :hyper:

Rose and Lisa and anyone else heading to the W/d -wishing you all safe travels!

Thanks, Dottie! Safe travels to you, too. And to Rose, Nicole and Melinda! See you ladies soon. :goodvibes

I hope this zen feeling I have about this race stays with me so I can enjoy myself. :hippie:

I'm glad you are feeling good about it. I have said this a million times, but I really love this race. It's tiring and it's hard, but I think running at night, especially through the parks is so cool. And the weather looks like it's going to be great!

Thanks Dottie. You do have a bunch of races coming up!

I took ibuprofen and my back is feeling a little better. I won't take it when I run, but hopefully by Saturday I won't need it. :goodvibes

Oh no! Have you tried a chiropractor? I haven't gone to mine in months since they are out of network with our new insurance. But my low back has been angry for almost a week, so I went today. It seems to have helped - or at least taken the edge off. My other favorite is legs up a wall with a folded towel under the pelvic bones - that just relaxes, won't actually work out the soreness. I don't know if it's something about tapering, by last year my IT knee pain got worse even on the days I wasn't running as we got closer to the race.

Thanks, Dottie! Safe travels to you, too. And to Rose, Nicole and Melinda! See you ladies soon. :goodvibes

Woohoo!
I'm feeling pretty good about this week, too. I'm going to run/walk tonight and that's my last official training session before the half. I'll be doing some park walking on Friday and a little Saturday, plus keeping up with some basic PT and strength training stuff in the meantime. Despite my previous negative experiences with the quality of KT tape, I bought another roll and will try it for my knee this week. I had tried an old knee brace last weekend for some stability, but it was too shifty when I tested it on my 5 miler.
I am hoping to do a good chunk of my packing and make my race music mix tonight!
In 48 hours I will be in New Fantasyland! :wizard:

Wow, I have been MIA for months!

So we moved from Colorado to Northern California this summer and have been busy ever since. We are getting into the swing of things finally. We started in an apartment and then bought a house. Moving twice wasn't ideal, but its over, thank goodness. In fact, its been 3 months since we left Colorado and I just got my computer hooked up last week. I am enjoying the climate here and do not miss Colorado weather at all.

I had a not so great 10K 3 weeks ago where I got a huge blister and had to walk most of the last mile. Not fun. I did get to run part of the race with my family. The kids completed their first 5K, which was lots of fun. DH had an awesome PR in a half 10 days ago (his first sub 2 hour half!) and yes he used Galloway. His next goal is 1:50. This course was very hilly, he is switching to something flat to get to 1:50.

I am training for the Tink and have many races I would love to do next year. We'll have to see how the finances work out. Since we are in CA now, I am in for the DL half next year. It looks like we may do a 5K turkey trot as a family on Nov 17th. The kids already want a PR.

I mostly wanted to come on here and say I am still alive and running. I gained 10 pounds in this move and am working to kick them to the curb and continue to my goal.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend, especially Lisa, Rose, Dottie, Melinda, and Nicole. Have an awesome race! Be sure to have a celebration drink for me!

Trying to get back into the swing of things. The Larry run is coming up in May and we all need to improve our times. And the SJS run is coming up in March and we'd all like to do that too.

I have officially set my long term goal to do the Mickey Marathon in 2018, I think that's the 25th anniversary one, which would also be mine and DH's 25th anniversary too.
My other goals are A food and Wine race, TOT race, the Donald 20th 1/2. Which would be, I believe, 2017. And the Princess 10th which would also be 2018.

Somewhere in there I want to add a coast to coast too.

I think I need to go back to setting a calendar with tangible targets on it. That really helped with the Everest Race.

Glad to see people still here! Good luck to all of our racers this weekend!! Wish I was there to cheer you on in person, but I'll be there in spirit!

Thanks for the well wishes, Lisa!
Sounds like you've been super busy! We've considered moving, and the thought of all the cleaning/organizing/packing makes me panic!
Welcome back!

Wow, you've got your goals really planned out. I hardly know what I'm doing beyond January 2013! I admire that you can have such long-term vision and patience for reaching your big goals.

Last night I started packing, did the last load of laundry, and made my race mix. It's the first time I've planned it out mile by mile and don't plan to shuffle the tracks. If I can stick with my 13-minute mile goal, I will have music appropriately themed to each section/park of the race!
Today, I've got my compression socks on and I'm finishing up stuff at work.
A little nervous about how much packing is still left, but we'll make do. I try to avoid running around like a crazy person the night before we go on a trip, but I rarely succeed!

Good Luck on the big race tomorrow!!! Wish I was doing the W&D but am walking a turkey trot in the morning instead....can't wait to hear how everyone did...don't have too much fun without us :)

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. I loved reading about the Wine and Dine on other threads, it looks like it was fun, congrats to all that participated  It really inspires me to keep working towards my goal of running in a Disney Half.
I wanted to check back in after my all inclusive vacation, I was so worried i would gain back a ton of weight with the "all you can eat and drink" part of the vacation :scared1: I was also concerned that sitting on the beach all day, everyday, would put me back in a " sedentary" state of mind.
I worried for nothing! I actually lost a pound :cool1: I really made an effort to always use the stairs ( our room was on the 3rd floor ), walk everywhere instead of use the shuttle, play in the ocean and walk the beach. I guess it worked.
Before I left on vacation i asked your thoughts on joining a gym for the winter, i really appreciate your responses:worship: I toured LA Fittness, it just opened and it's beautiful - however i decided NOT to join. Since April, I've lost 27 pounds without a gym, I dont have any races planned for the winter or spring and I'm not sure i can run on a treadmill. There is also my issue about exercising in front of other people. So... I've been doing 3 or 4 nights a week of Zumba and 1 day a week of HOT yoga. I bought enough passes to yoga to last me through the winter. Pre paying for the passes really motivates me to use them. I think that will do my body good through out the winter ( of course I welcome any suggestions! ), i would also like to try PX90 or Insanity _ but I dont think Im there yet.

It's great having this group here for encouragement and advise! I need to go Zumba now and get it in before the Walking Dead starts! I need to be prepared for the zombie appocolypse

Great schedule for 2013, Alice! Looks like a lot of fun races. :goodvibes

After the Donald I am switching to shorter races for the rest of 2013. I need to work on getting faster.

Don't forget to come by and say hello on the BL alumni holiday thread http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=46782808&postcount=1

Have a great week all!

Happy belated birthday to Buffy! I believe it was November 24th!

That looks like a great schedule Alice. I think I would like to do some shorter races too in the new year.

Melinda--I say if it's working for you, stick with it. Congrats on coming home from vacation without a gain. That's awesome!

I was bummed to not see Nicole at Wine & Dine as well.

I thought it was a great race. The improvements that they made were awesome, and I loved the finish. I was a little frustrated because up until mile 12 we were within one tenth of a mile of the mile markers, and we ended up three tenths over. Goodness! I just don't believe we wove that much at the end, so I am wondering if the mile markers were off. The last mile just would not end, and I guess that's why!

This was my third W&D, but the first one where I felt good at the end and was able to enjoy the party. I did end up eating a salt packet as we were walking over to ride Soarin, but after that and a bottle of water, I felt good. :) We didn't get back to our room until 4am. :)

Next year I really need to work on taking it easy during the day. Something I am not good at. We logged 20000+ steps before the race even started. That's about 10 miles for me...

I have rededicated myself to healthy eating through the end of the year. My clothes are getting a little tight, and all in all I am just not feeling good about the choices I am making. Training for the full is stressing me out a bit (ok a lot), but that is no excuse to eat crappy and make bad food choices.

I hope everyone is doing well.:goodvibes

Looks to be very cool and very rainy for our Jingle Bell 5K tomorrow, bleh. I'll be running with my DD too, so the pace will be slow. But we're wearing Christmas tree costumes and my sis is wearing an elf costume so the laughs along the way will be great! :cool1:

Thanks Rose!

Santa brought us a Christmas wish for the Jingle Bell Run this morning - sunny skies! Was great getting our run in with bright sunshine and without getting soaked. :thumbsup2

I had a fun race with my DD and my Dsis, but I was a tad bit distracted with my costume, lol. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get home; I think our outfits turned out really cute. :goodvibes

Here is a little thought today from our friends at RunDisney.com

Alice, still would love to see your pics! :santa:

Who else is going to WDW Marathon Week-end on our thread?

We really had a fun time with this. Our skirts are made from actual tree skirts (the cheap cotton white ones, with glitter all over them) and we glued big gold stars onto head bands for our "tree toppers." :) My sis was an elf; her shorts had bells all around the hem.

I used to know how to post photos on here....now I can only seem to post them in thumbnail size. :confused3 :rotfl:

Very cute! :santa: And what a nice day you had to run that day because, as you know, it has been quite rainy here lately. :umbrella: I loved the garland!
