Offer in and waiting not so patiently

I closed today on this purchase. Now it's just a 2-4 week waiting game. I'm still hopeful that I can get everything set up by the 21st and book some rooms (I've got a hotel reserved for my stay in late January and can cancel without penelty 5 days before arrival). This closing was WAAAAYYY easier than my house. But I guess that's how it works when you pay cash.

I've just sent in my initial paperwork on a DVC contract at OKW. Now I'm just sitting and waiting. I was going to offer less, but I really don't want the ROFR exercised... Anyway, assuming that everything works out and the timeline is stadard, I could see myself the proud owner of 100 pts at the beginning of December.

Here's my question: What is the chance of getting a studio at the end of January/beginning of February when booking in December? I'm not looking for current availablility, but experience with this type of booking. The good thing is I'm not picky and I could move if needed, but I don't want to stay in a 1 bedroom -- I don't want to get accustomed to fancy when what I want is a longer vacation. I really want to try out the system and use points that will expire in April (2011 banked).

Thanks for any wise words! princess:

Mid December is closer to your points in account date and you will probably find a studio at SSR if you are lucky.

Undchefreak,

Was this offered by The Timeshare Store? I was so close to bidding on it. It is 100 April Use Year OKW. I have mostly Boardwalk points. Good luck with getting through ROFR. I made a bid on 150 OKW April Use Year about a month ago and it didn't get through. However, if you offered their asking price, it may make it.

You should be able to book SOMETHING in January. I have had good luck at that time of year.

If you are flexible about what resort and room type you stay in, I don't anticipate a problem booking for that time. Barring special event weekends, January is typically a slow time for DVC. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy your first trip!

It was the TSS listing. I called before they were opened the day after listing, and offered based on ROFR data. Since the points are from 2011, I didn't need to negotiate any 2012 points. Hopefully they'll pass over me:confused: .

I don't mind staying at SSR, or any other resort. There 100 pts to use, and I'd like to jump to another resort (or two) during my stay. I probably won't even go to a park while I'm there; I just want to check out the magic of the resorts :wizard:

I think that for the end of January to the beginning of Feb you should get a studio at just about any resort. As long as your dates are after the marathon and before President's Day you should be fine.
2 years ago I decided in late Nov to go to WDW in mid January, just after the marathon.
I was able to get a studio at the AKV, standard view, I did not want to use a lot of points be decided on a whim to be in WDW for my birthday.
Assuming you pass ROFR, as soon as your points are in the system go online and play with your dates and look at the resort you really want, if it is not available the system will give you other options that are available.

Thank you for the encouragement! I'll try to post on this thread when I hear about the contract. Have a magical day! pixiedust:

I've posted a few other places, but the ROFR was used on my property. I'm going back to the drawing board. I think I'll wait until the dues notices come out to see the supply increase before I make any other offers (unless THE ONE comes along...again). I'm going to travel down in January to do some hanging out at different resorts. Yay for another trip planned! :cheer2:

Sorry to hear Disney decided they wanted your contract. But as you know, there will be other opportunities, maybe even a better one. :) Good luck!

I finally have an update. I bought a 100 pt Old Key West contract through resale and closed 1/3. I was able to get my member number and work with member services to book 3 nights in a studio at Saratoga Springs and 1 night in a 1 bedroom at Old Key West. I could have booked the entire stay at Saratoga, but I wanted a couple of different locations, and this way I can do some laundry in my room the last night.

So excited for my first trip home! :goodvibes
