No, none of the cakes are ever frozen (supposedly even the cakes you can get at the restaurant podiums aren't ever frozen, but I once had a server say he had to thaw one out, so...). I think it's luck of the draw on freshness. Sometimes, especially with fancy cakes, they have to start the process several days ahead, which might result in a stale taste. In fact, I'd wager that you have a better chance of getting a fresh cake if you don't order an elaborate fondant-covered creation because they don't have to make it so far ahead.

I went ahead & ordered a 10", it was only $12 more. It's not a fancy, fondant-covered one, so we should be pretty good then. I did normal vanilla buttercream, vanilla cake & white chocolate mousse filling, with a Jake & the Neverland Pirates theme. Loved the picture of a 6" she's done, so I'm looking forward to what she does with a 10" in that theme. Price was quoted at $75.

placed my order with Chef Brian for my dd Sweet 16 cake at Chef Mickey's. He told us that in order to do a Mad Hatter style cake it has to be an 8" so that is what we are going with. There will be 7 of us total so I think we will be okay.

We requested the cake to be a chocolate cake with dark chocolate mouse and fresh raspberry filling. My daughter also loves Lilo and Stitch so we asked for a Lilo and Stitch / Tropical theme.

We were quoted $165 for the cake.

I can't wait to see it. Just 10 more days!!!!! :goodvibes

I also just wanted to say a big 'Thank You' to lurkyloo and all the other disers that have shared information on the cake threads! I am not sure that I could've done this whole cake thing without your help!

Sounds like it's going to be great—can't wait to see it! :hyper:

Who is it best for me to contact, and how far in advance? I would want a vanilla sponge with fondant icing, so should I ask what price they start at or would who ever I speak to be able to tell me?

See post #2 of this thread for contact info. You're looking at $60 and up for a fondant-covered cake. Check out this post for the package they will probably try to sell you: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2912870&page=2

Also do I give the chef a free reign or is it best to be quite specific?

It depends on what you want. If you don't care, you don't have to give direction other than that you want fondant and maybe an idea of a theme. If you really care, you need to be specific as possible; sending in pictures helps.

Would the cake be brought out after main meal i.e before dessert?, and would CRT hold if for me after or will I have to take it around with me if we want to go on any more rides!

They're supposed to bring the cake out when you're ready for dessert, but often they forget and you have to remind the server. They are not supposed to keep leftovers for you due to health codes, but people have had mixed results at the various Disney restaurants. Sometimes they'll do it for you anyway. I just wouldn't count on it.

Oooh! I'm looking forward to seeing it too! :goodvibes

Hi lurkyloo, thanks for the info :goodvibes

I had previously considered the her royal highness package, but it seems a lot of money for what you get! (and I'm sure you can buy the balloon from seller in main street, so not really that special!)

I'll be sure to reming our server about the cake!

Thanks again

Claire :)

Hi everyone! I think I've seen pictures of the cake done with piped buttercream icing? Is this corrct or is there buttercream under the ganache? Which would work. I need to order this for a birthday dinner at 1900 Park Fare. Haven't been able to connect with Pat yet.

The only place I've ever seen people get a Mickey head cake with piped frosting is at the Contemporary. Everywhere else they cover it with ganache. I believe there's buttercream underneath it, but it's hard to tell from pix, so definitely ask. They refer to the filling as "filling" rather than frosting, so I think it's one of their mousses.

That's the photo I think I saw. lurkyloo. My DGD and I share he smae birthday along with Mckey so this cake is perfect. She's never had ganache before but asked me if if would have that yucky icing(?). She was actulally referring to the whipped frosting. LOL Thanks for your help!

I'm with her! I can't stand whipped cream frosting. :crazy2: But the ganache is just that glossy glaze like you see on fancy "death by chocolate"-type cakes. Pretty good! :thumbsup2

Awesome cake and price! How sweet and thoughtful of you! Who did you contact to order the cake?

I called yvette (I'm pretty sure that was her name at the number posted in post 1. She was super nice. Took her a full day to call me back but well worth it!

Is there a photo posted of this Mickey head cake? This December hubby and I are celebrating our 11th anniversary and his birthday. This whole trip was actually to celebrate my *50* :::gasp::: birthday but my birthday was really last May. I think I'm ordering the Princess slipper for our meal at CRT (it's breakfast....they can do the slipper at breakfast, can't they)?

This is the Contemporary's piped Mickey Head Cake:

This is the Mickey Head Cake you get everywhere else (and the Contemporary, unless you specifically request the piped one):

Yes, they will deliver a slipper for any meal. ;)

I am having some challenges in my cake ordering process with the Contemporary. I am wondering if someone can provide some perspective on what I have requested and if perhaps I could've done it a little differently. My goal here is to gain some insight.

I requested an 8" chocolate filled fondant covered Cinderella themed cake with chocolate buttercream frosting underneath. My only request was a solid white chocolate Cinderella with a few silver accents painted on the figurine, and I left the rest up to the pastry chef. I attached some examples of cakes that I found on the internet that I liked, some of which were cakes with a different princess/characters that could be done in a Cinderella theme. I just liked the overall style of the cakes. I wrote comments next to each saying what I liked about them and how each might be Cinderella themed. A couple of the cakes were 2 or 3 tiered, but I stated what I specifically liked about the cake.

My challenge now is that I have been asked if I want a multiple tiered or single tiered cake with a Cinderella chocolate figure, with the rest of the cake to be of different characters that are not from Cinderella. (I also stated that my budget was preferably around $125 but that I was willing to go up to $160 or so). I know there is no way that a 2 or more tiered cake could be met with my budget.

I thought that the process was going really well until today. I'm feeling kind of confused (did I confuse them with my request?) I am wondering if I should have sketched something or just left the whole thing up for surprise. Did I make a mistake by attaching the photos? Thanks for any open thoughts.

I have to confess I too am a bit confused by your request. I think they do best when they either have very clear direction ("Give me the cake in this photo but with blue fondant instead of red and snowflakes instead of hearts") or are given absolute free reign ("Make me a cake with a Test Track theme!").

Which locations does Chef Brian serve?

Chef Brian works at the Contemporary. The Contemporary serves itself, Ft. Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge and the Magic Kingdom.

Hi! Totally forgot that I had an account here. I've been lurking here for a week now and thought i'd share what I'm hoping to do. I left Pat a message today as I'm hoping to order a mini cake for our 3rd anniversary/my birthday... Hopefully it will be prettier than my sketches. I want devil's food cake with buttercream frosting.

Hey Fellow Cake Thrad followers,

We will be going back to the world in January for my son's birthday. We were just there in October and had a wonderful cake expierince ( for my daughter's birthday) So kknow I am trying to think of some ideas for my son's cake. I was thinking of doing a Star Wars theme but using Mickeys' and Stitch as the star wars characters. Do you think they can make this happen? I will once again be working with Chef Brain but I have not contacted him in regards to this cake yet. Has anyone had a Tron cake done. I would love some ideas my son is turning 7:eek:

We are going to be celebrating my son's 2nd birthday, as well as twin cousin's 5th birthday on our trip. There is no way we can afford some of these awesome cakes, but hate to have NO cakes. Has anyone ever bought edible decorations (on etsy, etc.) ahead of time, & added them to one of the standard food court cakes? suggestions? thanks!
