Wondering what special things they have if you have a birthday in the cruise. We will be on the dream the week or two before my daughters 6th birthday. We are going with my mom and dad who we only see a few times a year so id like to at least do a cake. Do you know how you go about doing this and what restaurant would be best? Tia

As long as the birthday is noted on your reservation, you should be good. It's not a bad idea to mention it to your server the day before. They will bring out a small dessert (chocolate mousse-type) for the birthday girl and sing Happy Birthday. And she'll get a birthday button.

There are birthday packages you can purchase onboard, but, personally, I think they're too pricy.

They will do the birthday whatever MDR you are in that evening.

If you want a full cake for the family, you'll have to order and pay for it. On the other hand, the standard birthday celebration at dinner is as above.

If everyone wants to eat cake, it is "free" (included with cruise fare) as long as it is served by the piece. You only have to pay to get a full cake which they will then cut for you. Honestly, that's a waste IMHO.

If you are meeting up with the family a day or two before the cruise or hanging out with them a day afterward, buy a cake in Florida and do the cake bit in the hotel or wherever. Do the standard birthday celebration on the cruise.

And a note--the cake on the ship isn't all that good. Seriously, standard grocery store bakery cake is better than some of the ship cakes. Their other desserts are good, but the cake isn't. In fact, my daughter learned as a kid that the nicer it looked, the worse it tasted. The "plain" ones tend to be better!

I had my birthday on a cruise and I didn't want a big fuss made over it since I was travelling alone. I think if I was with family/friends things would have been different. I did enjoy a nice dinner at Palo to celebrate, nevertheless I've been with friends on cruises during their birthdays and had a wonderful time with a large cake for the entire table to enjoy. Have a wonderful cruise.
