Any rumor when 2014 dates come out?

I called DCL and they said you are able to book at 10 percent deposit now ,then change it to a 2014 date once they come out, but at that time you would have to make up the difference to 20 percent down. They also said the same goes for when you book onboard and then change a dummy date cruise??? Is that true? I thought if you booked a dummy cruise onboard then changed it u still kept the 10 percent down???

Really? Maybe that's new? I've moved a cruise before and the deposit stayed 10%.

I just called DCL after reading this thread. We have a Dec. 2013 dummy cruise that we booked onboard. The DCL rep told me that 10% will stay the same when I move my cruise date.

Unless they have changed the policy in the last 3 weeks or so, you do not have to make up the difference to 20% if you change a booking you made onboard ship. I have made several changes to the the bookings I have that I made onboard ship and not added any additional deposit except for a difference in the fare.

It is often the case that DCL castmembers who take your calls on the phone don't know everything they need to know about what they tell you. I have gotten the most ridiculous answers from them on occasion, and eventually after several phone calls and speaking to managers, finally gotten a straight story. If you get something from them you question, call back and ask someone else. If you need to verify, ask for a manager.

Well, what I think they meant by that was when you move your placeholder reservation, typically it's to a more expensive cruise, so you will need to make an additional deposit in order to cover the 10% of the newly booked (or rebooked if you like that term) cruise. You are correct in saying that you still only need to have 10% down, even when moving a reservation. Hope that helps!

Oops, sorry peterpan47. Didn't mean to stomp on you! I guess we were typing at the same time.

:) No worries. I'm really bad and sometimes don't even read through all the postings before I post, and end up repeating. Repeats are good, though. They help clarify people's experiences. I just like being part of the group and hearing what everyone has to say :)

My travel agent told me 2014 dates won't be released until March...I'm stalking the boards daily in hopes he's WRONG!!!!

Although it is difficult to figure out why they do things sometimes, I can't imagine that they would wait that late to announce the entire 2014 schedule. With other cruise lines having their schedules out already, I think it would be financially irresponsible to not put out the entire 2014 schedule until 9 months before it starts. I think it is more likely that they will do it in pieces, releasing the Dream and Fantasy schedule at just about any time now, along with possibly some of the Bahamas and Caribbean cruises on the Wonder and Magic and then waiting until March to release the other 2014 spring and later sailings. This is more in line with what they have done before. We booked our Alaska cruise for May 2012 (the first Alaska cruise of the 2012 sailing season) shortly after it was released, and I think that was either late March or early April 2011. However, the Bahamas and Caribbean cruises for 2012 had been announced several months before the Alaska cruises came out.

Waiting so long doesn't seem fiscally sound but they probably know better how waiting benefits them but for me the more time I have to pay for a cruise the longer cruise I take with better rooms.

Any other time they make it easy to part you from your money. They actually have made it into an art.

Yes they certainly have LOL They part me with enough each year ;)

I honestly dont understand how they have been in business for 14 years and cant even come close to organizing themselves enough to release dates when other cruise lines do. I love DCL and have convinced my whole family 15 of us to book our next family vacation for 2014 with DCL, and at this moment I have 14 people breathing down my neck asking for pricing and dates!! I am having a hard time convincing them that waiting for DCL to finally release dates and paying more money than other cruise lines, instead of booking now and saving alot of money per family will be worth it in the end!! Especially when we are all planners and need to save the $$ for the cruise and excursions. We need to do a budget, and make plans!! Come on DCL, get with it!! If other cruise lines can put their dates out so can you!!!

I disagree with the unorganized part. I think it's deliberate on their part even though I haven't a clue as to why.

Maybe they are tired of all the dummy bookings. Maybe they want to build anticipation. Who knows, but it works for them. I never sit around wondering when Carnivals dates will be released.

As long as it works for them LOL The sad part is I believe they lose business because of it!! If you know you are getting married say July 2014 and honeymoon on a cruise, would you want to sit around and wait to book it or do research and see that hey carnival has the same cruise for half the price now and book it so its not on your list of have to do things? I am facing this issue currently with my family I am still fighting for DCL because I love it, but its hard to convince people who have never been on a DCL Cruise that its worth the price, and NOW the wait, especially when they could book another cruise to the same places now!! I know I cant change it and I have to deal with it LOL But as long as it works for them, and I dont get vetoed for another crusie line before they release their dates and prices I will be ok LOL

Well I think it is costing them business. I have been waiting around for months to see what cruises are available in January 2014. RCI and Princess have had their 2014 cruises out for months. Well I got tired of waiting for DCL, so started looking at the RCI cruises and found the exact cruise I'd like to take on the Independence of the Seas. I haven't booked it yet, thinking I would give DCL a chance to see what they have but because of the delay I found the RCI cruise and am 90% sure we will book it.

I'm a bit frustrated with the wait as well, but it's not quite accurate to say that all the other lines have 2014 out already. For example, no one has Alaska out for 2014. I'm waiting for a spring 2014 repositioning cruise from LA to Vancouver, and so far only 2 lines have anything available. The trend seems to be to release the biggest ships and Caribbean itineraries first for most cruise lines.

I wonder if a lot of people booked the Dream/Fantasy early last year, then changed when the classic ship's itineraries came out, so Disney is delaying so they can release them all at once? If Disney did release the whole year for all ships, it would put them far ahead of most other lines in most places.

The wait is frustrating for those of us wanting to book spring 2014 though. With my luck they'll release the spring schedule for the classic ships right up to the week before I want to book, then leave me waiting for the next release!

I really think that Disney just doesn't know what they want to do yet. They are trying to find the right intineraries to fill their ships as much as possible. They are now balancing 4 ships and as seen by all the 2013 changes they just aren't sure how to do that. They are trying different things to see if it makes a difference. I am guess they are now waiting to see if adding Jamaica makes a difference.

I don't really understand the waiting on the Fantasy and the Dream because they are pretty much set with their itineraries .
