I totally used to have a shirt similar to that sushi one. Hysterical. I wore it to Teppan Edo one year and the CM's thought it was hilarious and could not stop commenting on it.

That stuff is so cute though, I'm going to have to find that store on my next trip!

You definitely have to get on Expedition Everest some day. Believe me, the backwards portion is not that bad.

I remember when Dinosaur was called Countdown to Extinction too! I hated it when they changed the name. Hahaha.

I absolutely adore Finding Nemo: The Musical. The first time I saw it I just thought it was amazing! Still do. And I have the soundtrack.

There are so many sushi shirt variations that I really wish I had some of them because they're that awesome!

I'm just so afraid I'll get dizzy and have it ruin the rest of my day. I wonder if it's better to keep eyes open or close them. I've heard that some people say they feel as if they're going upside down even though you don't.

Thanks for the pictures of Finding Nemo - I've never seen it, and probably won't since we're not really too into seeing the shows. We did more of that when the kids were little, but they're all about the rides now!

Ah, the Primeval Whirl! It's a very jarring ride, that's for sure! You hit those corners while you're spinning around.....it really throws you around in the car!

I love Expedition Everest, but I'll admit that going backwards in the dark is a bit disorienting.

I just recently started updating more since I've been at home recovering. I was getting a little bored just lying in bed so I figured my TR needed some attention!

It's a pretty long show, so I think everyone would have to be in the mood to see it. I remember I didn't like the shows much when I was younger either. I just wanted to get movin'!

Yeah, I've watched those videos of Primeval Whirl and knew there'd be no way I could ride that! Haha. I want to watch it in person one day though since it was down that time we passed it.

I've heard that you can see light coming from the bottom of the track and that helps you stay oriented? I'm not sure if that's true. I'm still too scared to risk it!

Return to the Dinosaurs

We were ready for some more dinosaur action! On the way, we passed by TriceraTop Spin. I had to take a picture by the sign because dear DIS friend Joni used the wait time sign in her "Waiting Game" a few years ago. I hadn't been to AK during that time, so it was memorable being able to see it in person now.

I really wished that this could come down, but alas, Disney no longer sells Dyno Gasoline at less than $3 a gallon if I'm reading it correctly. BTW, I looked to see if tetraethyl is a dinosaur reference, but it's not. Haha, it's really a gasoline thing.

How cute! Howard took this, but I only noticed the sign and didn't know there was an old-fashioned camera on the sign too!

Back in line for my favorite AK ride!

I knew I had to get a video with Dr. Grant Seeker. Howard and I laugh every single time Mrs. Huxtable walks onto the scene and says, "I've arrived it seems just in time to correct a little misstatement~" and then he goes, "Dr. Marsh~" with that specific tone and attitude. BTW, I think it's funny that it's "Grant Seeker" because I have a period in my schedule each week to work with another colleague of mind to do research and writing for grants! Anyway, you can hear me laughing at the end of the video.

When the two lines are open, for some reason, a lot of people stick to the left side. We've had a few occasions when we just chose the right side and walked down the stairs! Oh yeah, at Dinosaur, there were CMs that congratulated us, which we particularly enjoyed!

I was in the search for some mustard and ketchup ... there! See those 3 pipes? I'll have a close-up picture later.

Since we were only two, we were ushered to a line right away with two other guys. The benefits of being a duo.

This time we were at the back of the vehicle so Howard got this awesome shot. Seriously, my love for ride vehicles is insane.

It's so cute when there are little kids on the ride! I wonder if they really believe that in this room we are traveling back in time.

Can you hear the sound effects just by looking at this picture? You can notice that again I did not sit on the right side! Yes, I love the ride and know it's all fake, but I don't like being exposed! I'm not even sure I like sitting on the outside of IASW or POTC!

We finally got to exit from this side though so we were able to walk above the loading area.

I skipped on ahead because I wanted a good shot of the mustard and ketchup!

Do you see the ketchup, mustard, and mayo line? The chemical formulas represent the condiments too. I remember reading somewhere that it was because McD's used to be the sponsor. I don't know if that's true or not, but I like thinking that it is.

We should have held the map up higher, but we were posed as if we were looking to see what attraction we should go see next! Haha, we crack ourselves up. We had the map in the pocket in front of us, and I was giggling as I got it ready for this picture. Yeah, we're really easily entertained by our own antics. BTW, don't you love that tough look the guy in the front is giving? At first I thought he was making a like, "I'll take you on" type of gesture, but then I realized he was holding on tightly. Hehe.

Scary turtle creature thing again!

Am I the only one that is scared by this? Haha, never mind the dinosaur picture behind it on the wall. This thing is freaky! And we stayed in that area for a bit to pin trade with the CM at the register. I saw something I wanted from far away and waited on the line to trade with him. He thanked us for waiting. I guess sometimes other people just cut in front to trade? Then the one we got was chipped and not good at all, so we ended up trading it away (I don't remember if it was baby Aladdin or something?).

Do you see the fossil Vinylmation decorations? Still can't believe we forgot all of Howard's Vinylmation that he wanted to trade! We'll definitely bring it in December!

They have SUCH cute dinosaur shirts here and at a cart in Dino Land. I wish I had a reason to buy a ton of cutesy shirts, but the only t-shirts I get are Disney-specific ones nowadays.

We popped into a gift shop just to take a breather and get some AC. Yeah, even though we just left an attraction, it was time for a breather already! That's how hot it was. I can't even imagine July and August.

This stuff is cute, but we have absolutely NO room for decorations. Limited space! So that's why we take pictures of the stuff we like.

We were exhausted at this point, and we were ready to head back to the resort except we needed to eat some dinner ... some EARLY dinner first! Where to?

Those shirts are really cute and my DD had a handbag...like that but smaller... have you ever been in Pearl River Mart in Soho... It's a Chinese like Department store... cute, cute stuff-can't go in there without buying something...

Dinosaur used to really freak me out... when that Dino looks like its going to eat you... I like your strategy of staring at each other...you look very nonchalant about the whole thing... Since you like that ride you'd probably also like the Indy ride at DL... it's pretty much the same/very similiar technology-different theme...very cool...

Primeval whirl by the way packs a little punch... I've ridden mostly everything... and that little Mouse trap on steroids is kind of creepy with its spinny spins and you feel a little exposed in those cars...

The Theming in Dinoland is really cute...I'd love to see some of the original concepts/concept art for it...

I think Dinoland is completely underrated! Have you ever looked up inside the big gift shop? It is crammed full of dioramas and posters and such.

That is another great picture of you two!

I will admit that the angles of some of the turtle pictures make it look creepier.

We got see a casting of Sue in Jacksonville last month. Apparently when she was auctioned, Disney and McDonald's were instrumental in putting up enough money to get her.

My daughter is a huge dinosaur fan. I have so many bits of dino information going through my head at all times.

The McDonald's ketchup/mustard/mayo theory is interesting. Wonder how long ago that was done? I know for a long time McDonald's did not have mayo. I'm guessing they do now. I don't eat there too often, and if I do I guess the burger I get doesn't have mayo. I like the backstories of Disney things, though, so it would be interesting to know for sure. Sounds logical, though.

Unlike many, I think the Dinoland section of Animal Kingdom is fun and very well-themed. If you read the story behind the whole area, you understand why it looks like it looks. I think the shop is cool. Takes me back in time.

Puppetry Mastery

After our terrorizing yet hilariously fun ride through Dinosaur, we went through the dino souvenir shop. I really want to explore the outside of the store more when it's not so hot. You get to notice funny signs like these. Do you see that the sign on the right is actually a gas sign?

Just gotta appreciate how dumpy this place looks, haha.

I stood there for a bit examining. Ahhh, I miss my long hair!

When we walked to our next attraction, we saw that Primeval Whirl was down. I like these coasters because even though the drops are sudden, you can see them and know they're coming up. Of course, Primeval Whirl puts a "spin" on that with the spinning, so that's why I've never ridden this.

I just thought it was interesting that there were people up there examining the track because you guys know just how much I love ride track!

I was tired of walking in the heat so I decided to drive there. If I had realized how this looked, I would've squatted more. Haha, what steering wheel is so far up?

Where did we go? Finding Nemo! I admit I wasn't looking forward to it at that moment other than enjoying a bit of AC. I had wanted to see it a while ago, but that day I was just tired.

As you can see, we sat in the top set of bleachers behind the walkway so the seat location probably didn't help much either. There were supposedly some seats farther down as the CM told us, but I didn't want to be squished. I like that in this photo the couple in front is trying to get someone's attention. "Over here! Right here!"

It was cute how all the kids would get so excited when they caught Nemo in one of those bubbles.

No one was really sitting in the bleachers at this point, so I liked having the space in the AC.

Then the show started, and I immediately remembered why I wanted to see this so badly in the past! I absolutely LOVE theater productions, and they combine the puppetry into this show so well that it's seamless and so perfect! If you can see, the characters are heading out to the drop off.

I like how they did the bouncing jellyfish scene with Marlin and Dory attached to wires from the ceiling.

Nigel is massive! I've seen it in pictures before, but he really is THAT large. I mean, I was thankful to be so far away, haha.

BUBBLES!

Definitely a MARVELOUS show! I hope to get closer seats next time so I can see the actors better. I did have to scoot left and right to see certain parts, but I liked that even though it was last minute (we did NOT want to wait outside in the sun for a long time the way that the guide thingies recommend), we got to see the whole show without being squished.

Yeah, I'm not sure where I read it, but knowing that it's ketchup, mustard, and mayo is really interesting! It took at least two rides for me to be able to find it because I kept looking AFTER the ride.

I really like the theming of Dinoland too. I know the back story of it, but I think because it's done intentionally, it's kinda kitschy and fun! I look forward to exploring it when it's not sweltering hot though!

Dining with Yaks and Yetis

Even though it was early, Howard and I were ready for dinner. We made last minute ADRs at Yak & Yeti, but we didn't want to wait around for it, so we went to see if we could get in a bit earlier. Thankfully, the restaurant was pretty empty at opening, so they were able to fit us in with no problem (we also did some pin trading to get more from the Pirates of the Caribbean set where Mickey and Minnie and others are dressed up as the characters). This is a look at the menu.

A lot of people had mentioned to us that they really liked Yak & Yeti, so we figured it'd be nice to have a sit down meal in the park so that we could relax in some AC.

It was a very interesting atmosphere and very bright where we were seated. We could kind of see outside a bit and were just grateful to be sitting and indoors!

We're huge fans of eating earlier so as to avoid crowds. When restaurants are CS places are busy, I start to get a little nervous, and then I can't enjoy my food at all. Having empty tables around us was quite a relief.

Would we like our meal?

It started off on the right foot. We ordered a drink from the menu that we both really enjoyed. It was like, a cherry and Sprite mixture. Considering the heat, it really hit the spot to have something a little more interesting than just a soda. We very rarely have soda unless we're having fried food, so this was a treat that we decided to splurge on.

What we didn't realize though was that because it was ordered off the special drinks menu, we couldn't get refills. We were disappointed that we had spent a couple of dollars on just one cup when we were dying of thirst. We had to have water afterwards. I didn't even realize it or I would've made the drink last longer. I think they should at least give us plain ol' Sprite or something since we spent the money on the drink. Despite the fact that we both LOVED the drink (we look at the pictures and think about how much we enjoyed it), I have to say that I would never order it again. I was raised in a family where you don't get drinks with meals because of the extra cost, so I just can't get over the guilt of the cost of this drink.

Bottle of Sriracha. Squirt some of this yummy stuff to make spicy tuna rolls and such, yum!

Atmosphere shot. You can also see the server that was helping the table to the right. She seemed a lot friendlier than the server we had. Our waitress wasn't mean at all, but she just didn't seem warm. I know that not everyone has a warm personality, but I want my meal to be pleasant and not just feel like a transaction of "I order this, you bring me this, I pay you this." The one in the picture also gave the family some Coke in a cup to go because the mom was still thirsty. I thought that was nice.

More atmosphere.

So moving on to the food. We decided to splurge some more and order an appetizer.

Of course, we had to take pictures of it first!

We ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna, which is described as chilled, sesame-encrusted ahi tuna, wasabi aioli, and sweet chili slaw ($11.99). The cool, light taste was perfect for the heat. It was very good because Howard and I really enjoy sushi, and Howard often gets things like seared ahi tuna.

The sesame crust gave it a little extra something.

However, as much as enjoyed it, would we order it again? No. It just seemed to be nothing spectactular for $12. It was good; don't get me wrong. It just didn't have anything in the dish that truly wow-ed us. It tasted like seared tuna from any other restaurant. We might as well just order sushi from NYC! The other appetizer that intrigued me in the slightest was the Wok-fried green beans ($8.49), but they have something similar at the local TGIFriday's. I also have to comment on the Dim Sum Basket for Two because for $13.99, they should be giving you much more food! Of course, we live in NYC, and in Chinatown, you can get all the dim sum for a LOT cheaper. You can take that $14 and get stuffed! Anyway, that's just my random comments about the appetizer menu at Yak & Yeti.

For Howard's entree, he chose the Shaoxing Steak & Shrimp, which was skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables, chili plum dippin sauce ($25.99). Howard somewhat enjoyed his meal; I think he at least enjoy his meal more than I enjoyed mine. However, he did say it wasn't nothing spectacular. It wasn't bad food in the slightest; there was just nothing in it that really made us go, "Wow, this is really good!" It was steak and it was shrimp. That's about it.

Oh no, we're going to run out of our drink!

I ordered the Crispy Mahi Mahi, which was filet of mahi mahi, Japanese bread crumbs, Cantonese sweet and sour sauce, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables ($23.99). Personally, it was not very pleasing to me. I wanted this to be lighter than it was. I'm used to Japanese bread crumbs being very light and crispy. I use panko at home rather often because of how light it is. Though this wasn't greasy at all, I just wanted a thinner crust, which is strange because normally I'm all about thick fried crusts creating a nice crunch. I also like fish that's more tender, but that's my fault because I know mahi mahi isn't super soft anyway. The rice wasn't anything spectacular either. I've had such soft jasmine-infused rice before that this harder texture was not something I enjoyed. Lastly, the vegetables just didn't do anything for the plate because they just seemed slightly cooked with no flavor.

Um, the plate is pretty though? If we didn't just have Flame Tree BBQ that day, I definitely would have ordered the Baby Back Ribs instead. I mean, the description of slow-roasted pork ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw ($25.99) just really entices me! I guess I figured I already had ribs and I should have something lighter. But again, looking back on it, I should've ordered the ribs. I am a sucker for hoisin sauce on ribs! My aunt makes the best spare ribs with hoisin and black bean and all other sorts of delicious flavors. I would've liked to see how Yak & Yeti made their variation of ribs.

Fortune cookies were our dessert. If we had a friendlier server, I had wanted to ask if we could just try ONE fried wonton. Not even the whole skewer, haha, but I just wanted to try ONE. Howard and I are both lactose intolerant, so there's no way we could actually order the dessert, but I really wanted to taste it since I know so many DISers love it. Haha, funny thing is that now there's really no way I can have it now because of the cream cheese wontons AND the fact that there's pineapple in it. Over the summer, I have started to get allergic reactions to pineapple. But like I said earlier, she wasn't the warmest of servers we've had, so once we were done with our meal, she seemed ready to push us out the door.

I know a lot of people enjoy the two dishes that we ordered, but it just wasn't for us. As we say in a video that closes out our AK day, the tastes were probably too familiar to us so it was nothing special. I don't want to be spending over $20 for an entree that doesn't wow me. I brought back the majority of the fish to the resort and only ate a little bit more. I ended up throwing it away a few days later after sticking it in our fridge, and I HATE wasting food, but I just really didn't enjoy it. Yak & Yeti was probably the most disappointing meal we had during our honeymoon, but that was "okay" by us because even our most disappointing meal wasn't gross or inedible! It just wasn't according to our tastes. I can see why others probably like it if they don't get to enjoy the Asian flavors as often as we do, but it's not a place we'd try again.

Weak Sauce Points​

I haven't posted a round for weak sauce points in a while since I got so consumed with work. I figure this is the perfect time to get back into it since I've been home this entire week due to Hurricane Sandy. I was supposed to go back to work on Monday after being out from the virus I had that landed me in the hospital. But then the hurricane came and devastated the borough where I live in NYC. It's really horrible how people have lost their entire homes. Plus, they are still finding victims of the hurricane in the debris. I am feeling stressed and upset with how things are going (and angry that the mayor is still allowing the marathon to go on this upcoming Sunday when there are so many without homes or food or electricity, but that's an entirely different story), so I have decided to spend some time focusing on DISNEY! I've been reading some trip reports since we got back our electricity. It really lifts my spirits. I am so thankful that Howard and I along with my family members and friends in NYC are fine. The only loss we had was the food in our freezer and fridge. I am thankful that God kept us safe and healthy throughout the storm.

Leaving AK

After our dinner at Yak & Yeti, we were ready to head out. We were tired! Haha, I know it was only our first park day, and it wasn't even a FULL day, but planning a wedding while teaching and finally getting through the day wore us out. Weak sauce much? We were ready for some down time at the resort especially since the room we had was just gorgeous! We did hear some Indian music along the way, so we stopped to listen.

It's strange that I actually enjoy Indian music like this! My mom can't stand Indian music because when she first got married, her landlord cranked up the music (and not this fun pop stuff) so that's all they heard all the time even when they would try to sleep. I completely understand why it bothers her now because our neighbors cranks up their music, and we hear the bass pounding through the walls! Sometimes it seems as if they're always watching Jurassic Park, but I digress. Anyway, in high school some of my closest friends were Indian and Paki, so they were part of our school's International Feast dancing to Indian music. It was extremely popular every year because it sounded and looked awesome! They were in their traditional clothes, and it just rocked. Ever since then, I've liked hearing it because it reminds me of those days.

In the video, you can see that the DJ in the back really gets into it too. Then I really like how the guest up there dancing is really enjoying herself. It may not be as popular as the dance party in Harambe, but I really enjoyed this. I turn this video on to watch/listen to every so often. Howard thinks it's hilarious that I like listening to the music and sometimes dance with moves like that to non-Indian music too. Haha.

We popped our heads into a gift shop and admired the intricate designs (and enjoyed the air conditioning!).

Howard was taking a picture of more of the carvings, and look at what he captured me doing in the background!!! Haha, I don't know why I have that face. Maybe I was about to sneeze! We cracked up when we saw it on his laptop after downloading pictures.

Years ago, I used to be very big on collecting the pressed pennies figuring they were inexpensive souvenirs. Now that there are so many other things I'd rather have, I don't do these because I'd rather put all those quarters towards something else ... or a snack!

Of course, Howard took a picture of this because he loves horses, haha. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but he used to love watching this show called Luno where this boy would sit on a little winged horse and it would transport him to different times in history (similar to Wishbone on PBS ... anyone remember that show?).

I saw these keychains and thought for a bit ...

I really liked the hippo, and I knew that one souvenir I was definitely getting was a keychain for the keys I had for our apartment. I didn't get this one and regretted it for a bit, but then I found another that just made more sense. Stay tuned to see what I got a few days later!

I LOVED this print ad for Chimpanzee! About two months ago or so, Howard bought it at Target as a surprise, and we watched it at home. LOVED it. Oscar is adorable. It's even better having the DVD to watch all the behind the scenes stuff when it comes to filming it because it's really just amazing to know that the camera crew stayed out there for extended periods of times dealing with bees and such to be able to capture this story.

We left the store and began walking out of the park. I do think I traded pins with a CM because he had a pin of the orange bird. During the trip, I was mainly look for DeeBees pins. I don't remember if I took a picture of everything during the trip, but I'll definitely get one of the ones I brought back sometime later.

I liked how the ducks were just lounging there on the rock.

We made our way to the bus stop area. In the video, you can hear just how amazed I was at the whole idea of buses to the resorts! I seriously never paid attention to where these things were and just never noticed it when entering or exiting parks!

I love the railings that keep everyone in line and organized.

Of course, I sped on ahead as Howard took pictures.

I'm wondering if in December we'll have to walk more depending on the location of the Pop Century bus stops. At least it'll be cool out!

Haha, seriously, Howard takes a ton of these.

Waiting on the line. I like when there are a bunch of people there because it means we didn't just miss it.

The bus showed up in just a few minutes, so I liked that we had perfect timing!

We were hot and sweaty and ready for some AC and some relaxation time.

Still amazed that we stayed at AKL! It was wonderfully memorable!

In just a few minutes, we were back at our resort. We walked through the gift shop instead of walking all the way up to the entrance of the resort. Of course, we peeked at a few pins. Since we purchased a bunch of pins for only 50 cents at the Disney outlet in Florida a few years ago as well as some on eBay, we couldn't justify spending on pins, but we still look anyway!

I love all the Mickey ones. So classic!

Before we left the gift shop, we joked about how we would get stuff like this as souvenirs for our parents.

First full day done! Thinking about having the rest of the honeymoon ahead of us was so thrilling!

The AKL has some really unique stuff in their shop!
The pressed pennies really are a great cheap souvenir! My son is obsessed with them!

A lot of people overlook all the details at AK but it really is an amazing park. Howard took some great photos!

I'll be honest, I don't understand how Disney can "sell" the pressed pennies when they are allowing people to destroy US currency which is illegal. Oh well.

Glad guys are OK and all you lost was your food. That stinks but atleast it's replaceable.

I remember seeing on Twitter you had gotten the Chimpanzee DVD. It is such a good movie. If you liked it and haven't seen the other Disneynature movies you should check those out too! I love them all!

Ugh this hurricane was horrible, wasn't it? I can't believe how bad NJ and NY were hit. CT was hit pretty badly too, but not like NJ and NY. I've been seeing all of your updates on FB, about having no power, I can't even imagine! We didn't lose power, but we did have a tree fall on our house...not fun! Luckily, there was no damage! (Speaking of FB, I followed you on twitter, I'm minnie_ears, I don't know if you were wondering who I was or something!)

That gift shop you are in looks really cute, is that the one that is kind of near where you exit the safari? I love that one, they have lots of cool things to look at in there! I love those keychains you were looking at, I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for those...in 5 DAYS when I'm in Disney World!

I don't think I ever saw Luno, but I did watch Wishbone... it was one of my favorite after school shows in elementary school.
