Castaway Cay 5K First Timer Support Thread

I hear you...by the time I get home from work it's dark now :worried: I've been doing C25K on my treadmill, working up to running at the local walking track at the hockey rink. Are there any indoor tracks close to you? It is so easy to give up because of weather...or sickness, which is the issue here.
Off to start week 5...wish me luck!

Luckily, it won't be too often that I'll have to run on a treadmill out here due to the weather since I'm training during the winter but ironically, I need to run on treadmills when I'm in Los Angeles for business trips. (I don't feel safe running around the neighborhood of my hotel in the evenings, which is the most convenient time for me to run.) Going to do my first treadmill run this Saturday. I hope it doesn't throw off my momentum since I'm used to running outside.

I would LOVE a Disney tech shirt chances are great that I wont purchase a tshirt, I did find a few designs on the DISboards, we leave next week and hopefully Sandy (nothing like a little prevacation stress with a hurricane making landfall pretty much on top of u!) continues to be mericful on us and I can get to walmart to pick up some of their cheap running shirts and make something for us.

I did it!!! I got up this morning and it was raining and the wind was gusting off and on and I thought if I don't go now I won't go. So I got dressed put on a windbreaker and ball cap and off I went. W2 D1 done! It wasn't easy, I ran in water to my ankles in spots and I am really out of shape and overweight so it made me nauseous and a little dizzy but I pushed through it and finished the workout. I can't believe I did it!
Now I am siting in my basement rec room hoping and praying that Sandy will go away already. I'm starting to think the wind is never going to stop!

My friend and I completed the CC5k yesterday!!! How the heck am I back in my house already?!?! Ugh, I want to go back!

It almost didn't happen. Because of the remnants of Sandy, our itinerary was changed to CC the last day of our 4 day (Halloween). We went down to 687 at 8:20ish, only to be told by Cally and Ashton that the captain was trying to navigate us into port, but bc of the high winds and surf, getting to the island may not happen, let alone the 5k. They would make an announcement later. About an hour later, CD Clayton came over the intercom and said that the 5k was a go and that participants should get to 687 now. (Apparently, the longer we waited, the more guest would be using the bike path and it would be less safe)

Ashton and Cally were great, professional and fun! No photographer for individual pics, or special guest star because of the late start and crowds, but I can cross it off my DCL bucket list, and I earned my tshirt. (Well, I earned the internal justification to buy the shirt)

Oh, and no medals anymore. When my friend and I asked about them, Cally said they "discontinued" the policy of giving medals. Also, the tshirt come as large as 3x and there are two designs, the collegiate font and ones that are more pinks, yellow and blues in nature.

If you get the chance, do it! There was only 20 or so of us, and the weather, while breezy, was oddly cool.

That stinks about the medals! I am all about doing runs that give medals, did they still do the bibs? We leave a week from today and was looking forward to doing the run, honestly if they are not doing at least the bibs I will just get my run in early on the boat. It was pretty awesome running last spring out there as castaway was still in the horizon. By the time I got back to cabin and showered we were pulling into the dock.

We asked about the medals on the 10/21 Dream
Cruise and were told that the DCL ones were pulled from all the ships and new (generic) medals were being designed.

Yup, we got bibs. :)

According to my friends who run, you should be fine doing the occasional treadmill run. They're suggesting I start mixing in some non treadmill runs as I get closer to the race, since running on ground is harder, and I'll mainly be doing treadmill runs since our winter weather is cold::yes:: I'm taking baby steps ;)
I only wish I hadn't signed up to be the trainer for DS1's hockey team, since I could run and watch the game from the running track at the same time lol!

I've always heard to bump the treadmill to at least 1.0 incline, if you're counting it as a training run.

I'm a hot mess on the treadmill! I actually find it harder running treadmill vs road but then again after about 2 1/2 miles I'm lucky to still be on the belt, I can't stay straight.
3 miles is actually a lot shorter then you think once you get started especially if you running with others, you really feed off the energy and it helps push you. Just remember what they say, no matter how you do you are still lapping everyone on the couch...plus you'll totally earn that cocktail once you get to the beach chair :)

I really hope they are bringing in new medals. I'm sorry to hear they will be generic but I will just be so happy to complete the 5k and earn a medal to remember it.

Hey guys

My wife and I will also run the CC run (Sailing Feb 9th). I'm the runner and she does zumba. So this will be our first together. I'm looking forward to it.

So far this year I've completed 3 obstacles courses ( Spartan Sprint 8k, 5k mud run and the Zombie out run 5k). I've been running for less than six months.

Completed the last one today. Finished in 38 minutes. Not bad considering I have the flu.

I'm 48. My best time is 8.50 mile.

I just did the CC5K on Friday (sad to be home already) - they did give out "medals" they are a large plastic black Mickey Head with the DCL logo & a large red ribbon/strap that says winner.

Cc was cancelled. I was on 10/20 fantasy. Sad because I trained specifically for this race!!! Next year?

Did it almost 2 week ago on Dream. They no longer do the medals but the Bibb and shirts are available
