Warning: Art of Animation thermostat WILL NOT go below 68!

I just got back from Pop Century and their thermostats also do not go below 68. I thought I was the only one that woke up sweating at night! It should have been cool enough but I have no idea what they do during the night that makes the temp NOT stay at 68. I would sleep in a tank top and undies and just the sheet (so my kids were not traumatized by my sleepwear) and I was roasting. By the time we got up in the morning the room had cooled back down and was actually chilly!

Understand 68 may be cold to some and warm to others (especially when no air is circulating at all and the fan shuts off) also some like the temperature to be cooler at night so when some of you say 68 is cold, this is not the day long desired temp.

Disney can dictate their thermostat all they want, but when they don't tell people this AND HAVE NO WAY TO GET AROUND IT why are we to do after we pay this much per night?

The problem is that the air shuts off, when there is no motion. So it does not kick back on if it gets Hotter in the room. We even slept without blankets. Just like a previous poster said you wake up to a stuffy room.

Question: Did you check the temperature reading at night? Did the room get warmer than 68, or did it say 68 and just feel hotter?

What would be best is for someone to complain while they are there and see what they are told. I'm wondering if it is a problem with the system that the rooms are too warm, or if they will say that they system is working as intended.

Thermostat said 68, room temp 69 and not running. When we called (twice) they said it can't be changed and said "68 is cold enough". What is this country coming to...some cities are not letting people get large drinks, school kids can't have pizza, fries, etc anymore, and Disney tell us all when we are comfortable

As they own the resorts they can control the room temperatures. The only way it may change is for a lot of people to complain. If enough people tell them this will drive them off-site maybe they will listen.

Have you tried e-mailing Disney now that you are home? I know when I had a problem on a trip and the resort manager didn't seem to care, an e-mail got me a phone call from someone who seemed to care.

I don't think this is only at AofA. We always stay at Pop and have always been able to cool our room way down at night and slept very comfortably.

On our last trip (June 2012), our temp also would not go below 68 and we woke up sweating every single night we were there. It was extremely uncomfortable.

I'm from the Gulf coast of Texas and our weather is identical to what we experience at Disney. At home we keep the temp at 76 at night and I'm comfortable. It's just something about those rooms at Disney that gets stuffy.

I'm thinking about packing my little fan when we go next summer too.

I understand some think 68 is cold enough but you have to understand my point, 68 is not cold enough for some at night and Disney is dictating this and cannot be lowered for those who aren't comfortable at night at 68-70+

I would be much more "OK" with it only going down to 68, IF it stayed on all night, I don't want to have to get up at 3 or 4 am and dance a jig to get the ac started again lol.

I don't know about commercial buildings, but in a residence, it's a big no-no to set your a/c too low. It can cause the cooling coil to freeze up which will lead to the compressor failing and it can also cause water-vapor build-up, leading to mold.

As others pointed out I think the biggest issue is it turning off in the middle of the night because of lack of movement. Honestly I'm not sure the balloon trick will work. Several times while watching tv on the pullout the air has turned off. I tried waving my arms and legs up in the air (less than five feet away) to turn back on but that never worked. I instead had to get up and dance in front to get it to turn back on.

Sadly, I'd pay more to keep the AC on all night if that was my only option. I'm one of those people who can't sleep if it's even a little warm in the room.

No, I didn't check. There was no way the room was 68 but my kids were asleep and I didn't feel like getting up and finding the flashlight to check the temp.

If we go again, I will bring my little 6" fan and have it blow on the thermostat all night so it stays on.

We stayed ar aoa in mid Sept and didn't have any trouble staying cool but I did call front desk and get a box fan for the noise because I cant even sleep at home without the sound of the fan.maybe that could cool u off a little bit.

We turn our heat down to about 63-64 at night in the winter (New England).. I couldn't sleep if the room is hot-and I'll be calling and *****ing in the middle of the night..
I find its easier to get warm with a blanket then it is to get cool from being in a hot stuffy room

Calling the front desk doesn't get you to the actual front desk. If the bulk of your info is coming from them, it's important you know that you are not talking to anyone AT the resort. GO to the front desk, instead.

And have maintenance come TO your room, to make sure that that is someone actually there, too.

Since the person you are responding to was at AOA and got one, it REALLY seems you need to talk to someone else.

On another forum on art of animation, I read that you can hold in the f/c button on the left side of the thermostat until bp is displayed. On another thread it said to press the power button and the down arrow at the same time until bp appears. Not sure if either would work, let us know if you try. I think it said the bypass (bp) would override the energy saving mode for 48 hours. Not sure if it would allow you to set it lower or just bypass the motion sensor.

OP keep calling and ask to speak to a manager. I find it hard to believe that they cannot make your room cooler if YOU want it cooler. It's unacceptable when you are paying alot of money to stay somewhere that they cannot make the room comfortable to you. Not acceptable, I don't care if disney owns the resort, as others keep saying.

Many thermostats do come with settings that do not allow you to go lower (or higher) than a certain temperature. Any good maintenance guy should be able to manually adjust the presets by pressing the buttons in the correct order.

We had to do this recently at my work, the thermostat wouldn't go below 69. He got "into" it and voila! Lower temps for us.
