Vibe??

I would appreciate any info on Vibe. I hav Dd16 and ds 14. Really curious if there are many older teens like my daughter. Will she enjoy it?

We just booked our first family cruise with DD18, DS14 & DS12 and I am also looking for info on Vibe. Someone on the cruise trip report boards just started a report that has some great pics of Vibe. Here is the link:

I was 15 almost 16 when we went and I loved it! It was so much fun we did a fear factor (Girls v. Boys Girls won!) I did the Gross Grosser (me) and Grossest. We had to drink a smoothie made from random condiments and things you would put in drinks ^^ It was fun! We did the Zombified movie which was sooooo much fun haha. You get to try out to be a Snotty Popular girl (didnt get the part ): but I'll get it next time) there's smoothies and That's Hilarious was fun! We played a game where someone would go into another room and then they came back and the situation was "You were late for work" and the people would act out why you were late lol soooooo much fun xD You'll never be able to get your teens out of there.

BUT make sure that they go to the icebreaker the first night! I didn't and then I didn't know ANYONE so it was a little awkward trying to make friends.

This past Feb we sailed on the Dream to the Bahamas...DS was 14...he loved it! He made a lot of new friends and had a blast. They exchanged info and be-friended each other on FB...they even started a Vibe page.

All frozen drinks/specialty drinks are included while in the club...outside of the club we have to pay. There's snacks...and plain and simple they have good teen fun.

In Castaway Cay, they have their own private section with hammocks...secluded...it's almost a mystery where it is. He sign up for The Wild Side Teen Adventure while in Castaway Cay...they kept him from us almost the entire day...finally he spent the later part of the day with us....lol

One thing I heard from other parents is that their kids stayed out way too late. The club closes around 1AM-2AM...some of the kids continue to hang-out through out the ship. One parent mentioned her son didn't get back until 5AM and her and her husband were worried.

The way I see it, we are on vacation on a Disney Ship...IF I trust my son to go to sleep-away camps and travel with his team...I trust him on this ship. However, he didn't stay out until 5AM.

I think its important that our kids know what it's important to us and what we expect. But bottom line, we are on vacation...they work hard while in school as as we work hard.

I think they will love it!

Yeah I stayed out later than 2am I mean where am I gonna go? Also I text my mom when I get back or if I'm going out with other people and what we will probably do, just so she knows im ok. Also I stay with my grandma and shes a light sleeper so When I come in she hears me and wakes up lol

My sons are 16 & nearly 15. Both LOVE the Vibe. Definitely they need to go to icebreakers the first night. That's their opportunity to meet everyone. Also, they'll do "Choose Your Cruise" where the kids pick what things they'd like to do on the cruise.

My oldest tends to be the earlier to bed of my 2. He comes in usually by midnight. My youngest is the night owl. He rarely comes in before 2 unless we call his Wave phone or set a curfew for an early morning activity. We have basic rules: no going in other staterooms / nobody in our stateroom. After Vibe closes the kids will go to other areas to hang out. If its in the public areas I'm cool with it. I'm sure if they were being too disruptive someone would break 'em up & send them "home".

One morning my husband woke up @ 5 and our youngest wasn't in bed. Husband woke me in a panic: "Where's Brian?!?! Did he ever come in?!?!" We jumped up freaking out. His bed had been slept in. He wasn't in either of our bathrooms. His dad called his dad called his Wave phone...he couldn't sleep so he had gone up to the sports deck to watch the sunrise. Normally at home if its a non-work day waking us up is a no-no so he wrote a note that we never saw in the dark. LOL! Scared the bejeezus out of us but we're happy he saw a sunrise at sea. LOL!

As far as the late hours the kids come in, I may look at that differently. It's a controlled environment. At home my kids don't go out & all that stuff. The cruise is their chance to utilize all the things we've taught them all their lives and stretch their wings. As long as they're behaving properly, I'm good. I think of the crap I was getting into at their ages, the stuff I'd find to do to fill every minute up til my 1:00 curfew. Yikes! My inlaws never gave my hubby or his sibs a curfew. Instead they'd be fine with whatever as long as they knew what they were doing and where. They let the activity dictate the time... And rarely did any of their 4 kids stay out past midnight. If my kids are hanging out & I know where they are I'm good.

The age mix will vary from one cruise to the next.

The biggest thing is to get them to go to the initial session on the first night. They will meet their peers and the CM, learn the rules, and supposedly choose activities for the week. My DD says this is bogus and the same activities always are on the schedule no matter that the kids say, but.....bottom line, they NEED to be there for this session so they start to make friends in the group.

This sounds *Exactly* like my 15.5 year old daughter's experience! She is so happy that she will be 17 and not too old on the next cruise. (She insists being a zombie is more fun.)

Our DS was 16 on our last cruise. He loved the Vibe, met some really great friends. As others have said, don't miss the ice breaker the first night. He met the kids he hung out with the entire cruise that night.

We had the same rules other have said especially no one in our stateroom and he was not to go into others' staterooms. We said stay out of trouble, be polite to other guests and the crew, and don't do anything you know we'd be against. He was great, had a blast.

We let him stay out until Vibe closed. After that he needed to be in bed, mainly so I could relax and sleep knowing he was in the cabin. Fortunately, most of the kids he hung with had the same rule.

Our 15 yo DS loved the Vibe - He spent every evening there and now that I think about it, he was there anytime we didn't have a family activity planned. Before we left home we had set a 1:00 curfew and I was shocked to see the Vibe open 'till 2:00 or later. The kids did hang out after the Vibe closed and we had a few heated discussions about curfew, especially when we had early port excursions planned. In the end we set a later curfew on nights when we didn't have ealy wake-up calls.

At first, I thought Princess Kayla might be my niece in disguise, but don't think so. However, her story of The Vibe sounds exactly the same She was 14 and did The Vibe and teen excursions on St Thomas and Castaway Cay this summer. She loved every single minute of it. We had to force her to join us for dinner every night and occasionally to do excursions or pictures. Other than that, she worked curfew out with Grandma since they were sharing a room. The kids she hung with varied from 14-17 and were from all over the US. As others have said, they are all facebook friends now and still text and message regularly. Several were crying as we departed the ship and happened to be in line a few families apart. From all I saw and heard, it was good, clean, teenager fun.

Yes it sucks! All my friends turn 18 during the school year and I turn 18 in July so I can still go to the Vibe and they're all adults and they can't I wish Disney would let 18 yo who haven't started college to choose ): I guess I can see the thing with Minors and they're adults but still.. It would make bringing a friend soooo much easier!

Yup, this trip I will have all 3 kids in different categories. At least we will have our dinners together. DS14 could hang in the Edge with DS12 but I think he will like Vibe better.

Our trip is a few weeks after DD18's HS graduation and she is really looking forward to being an "adult" and moving to the next phase of her life. She will be off to college in the fall so lots of changes. She may check out the 18-21 group but she will probably just hang with DH & I. While the boys are in their clubs we can do the spa, Palo brunch... I think we'll have a blast.
