City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

Our natural habitat? If we were in our "natural habitat" according to you men, we'd be in the kitchen cooking, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, bringing you your slippers, etc. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Seriously, love my pedicures...it is my time to relax and be pampered since most of you men don't take care of that for us. :snooty:

Great update; but so sorry that you guys didn't get to see the nesting turtles. I'm sure the kids were disappointed. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you had a chance with the lottery to go back.

Kathy we couldn't let that pass !!!I guess it is a step up from being in the kitchen though !!!:rotfl2:
I also learned a new trick If you say you are not guessing you get a point soooo IF iwas playing I too say 2 Judy's !!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Finally Back and all caught up.

Yay! :yay:

I should be home for a while now .... no more scheduled travelling for at least a couple of months. :surfweb: popcorn::

I'd say "good", but your trips have been to Disney so...maybe that's too bad?

Add me to the list of fingers crossed for a lottery pick.

Thanks!

Thanks for the chapter links for your report- I really love reading all the comments from your readers- some of the wittiest around- but it has been a long, rough, busy couple of weeks, and sometimes "cheating" is the only way.

Believe me, I know! You're very welcome for the links....I know that it's a lot easier than going page by page through the thread to find the updates. :goodvibes

I totally get taking the pictures in the gift shop. Whenever I am on a trip somewhere I find myself in "Disney" mode and take pictures of everything thinking someone, somewhere out there may need the info from the photos.

Yep, because we appreciate it when others have left some breadcrumbs for us in our pre-trip "research" :surfweb:. :thumbsup2

The shark necklaces your kids made were really cool. It is good that they have a lot of fun activities to choose from, especially when the weather is less than ideal!

Oh thanks. Yes, that can be a concern with Vero. Since the parks aren't nearby, it can be a worry regarding you might do if the weather isn't good. :scared: But they have a few things for a rainy day.

Sorry that you didn't see any sea turtles during your walk, but it seems like it was still worthwhile.

Yes it was, I'm glad we did it. But we were so revved-up to see a big ol' turtle.

"Ah, now eventually you do plan to have sea turtles on your, on your sea turtle tour, right? Hello?"

:rotfl2: Right! But it's hard to pin-down nature.

Hope that your family was successful in the

 Thanks! :thumbsup2

Kathy we couldn't let that pass !!!I guess it is a step up from being in the kitchen though !!!:rotfl2:

She was holding up your end while you were traveling. :)

I also learned a new trick If you say you are not guessing you get a point soooo IF iwas playing I too say 2 Judy's !!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:sad2: But the important thing was that he was the first to say 2 Judy's, even if he "wasn't playing".

No, the title of this chapter doesn't refer to villagers assembling to select an annual sacrifice, as you might have read in high school in Shirley Jacksons short story "The Lottery", (which, written 60 years prior, reads like the creative spark behind "The Hunger Games"). Instead, this is a lottery that you want to win -- the Vero Beach resort's Turtle Walk lottery, to win a spot (although there's still a fee) on that evening's Turtle Walk to potentially see a nesting sea turtle. It's held a couple of days each week during turtle nesting season. I won't keep you in suspense for long, but the lottery was held at 10am, and of course I need to cover all of the ground leading up to it that morning.

The first thing after getting up and around, was to go looking for the coffee again this morning. I took my camera, so it turned into another photo stroll; I hope you're ready.

Once on the path to the Inn, I took a picture of the cottage in front of our building. Wouldn't it be awesome to stay in one of these?!

IMG_5806.jpg

Here's a better view of the Spa than the picture I took the day before. A couple of windows to the left of the front doors is the room where we looked in on Judy and Marlene.

IMG_5807.jpg

Another picture of the signpost. I'm not sure if this ones any better than yesterdays photo.

IMG_5808.jpg

Then I walked into the Inn and spied the coffee pots (finally!). This picture shows their location better, along the hallway back to Shutters.

IMG_5809.jpg

I filled my mug with some coffee out of the urn, took a taste, and...concluded that it was surprisingly good! Just about that time, a cast member came over to tend to the coffee and I asked, "is it Nescafé?" I thought that surely he would say, "Heavens no, its fresh-brewed." (And dont call me Shirley.) But instead he said, "Yes it is."

I thought, "Am I going crazy??! Nescrapé = good?"
confused-smiley-17512.gif
confusedsmiley-1.gif

Then he said that they changed it recently and that this was a new kind. I don't know if that was true or if he was just trying to restore my faith in my tastebuds, but believe it or not, I thought that it was pretty good. If you get some and think that it's still the same old swill, then you can put me down for saying that it was a slight improvement. I don't know what to think -- I'm still in shock that I didn't hate it.

Enough about the coffee, here's another shot of the room, but further left of the coffee pots. This is where the pressed-penny machines are, and the TV with cartoons for the kids (or the young-at-heart).

IMG_5810.jpg

In the lobby I walked up the staircase to get a shot of the front desk and lobby.

IMG_5811.jpg

Then I walked over to the corner to get a shot of the lobby towards the doors the lead to the ocean.

IMG_5814.jpg

I walked down and talked to a front desk cast member about the different types of rooms and suites they have. She confirmed for me how lucky we were to have gotten the view that we did. I figure that probably only about 10% of the 1-bedroom suites have the balcony directly facing the ocean and are on the 3rd floor. Then, throw in the availability factor determined by when people check-out and...we were really lucky.

From there I walked over to the hallway to the right of the front desk. It leads to the Spa.

IMG_5816.jpg

Just after I took that picture, a woman walked out of the restroom, there beyond the cannon. I still had the camera up as she walked out. Yeah, that wasn't awkward.
ashamed0001.gif

Here's some memorabilia on the wall in that room. They have baseball memorabilia because the Dodgers used to hold spring training in Vero Beach until 2008.

IMG_5817.jpg

Here's the room as seen from the cannon.

IMG_5818.jpg

I walked out to see what kind of a beach day it was going to be.

IMG_5819.jpg

It looked promising!

Here's the Green Cabin rental shack. You can get down to the beach by the ramp, where I was standing to take this picture (and you've seen in previous posts), or by steps behind that gate to the left of the Green Cabin.

IMG_5820.jpg

Yet another shot of The Inn.

IMG_5823.jpg

Walking forward a little bit, I took a better picture of the lawn behind the Inn. I saw some people playing croquet out here later in the trip.

IMG_5824.jpg

I got back to our suite at about 8 o'clock and we did our Insanity workout. Again, I was amazed at how cool it was to do this while watching the ocean out the window. Judy said that she tries to imagine it while she's working out in our basement.

All right, so it was finally getting to be lottery time. When we talked about it that morning, Judy suggested that either Marlene or I go over for the lottery, because we're lucky when it comes to things like that. For example, Marlene won a basket full of gift cards at a fundraiser at school a couple of years ago. As for me, I don't remember winning anything like that in particular, but I won Judy's heart , and maybe that's what she was thinking of. ;) Anyway, as 10 o'clock approached, Marlene wasn't up and around yet, so I went over to the Lobby. Hopefully, my luck would be enough.

Everybody was milling around, hoping that other people wouldn't show up. Well, at least I was -- I didn't need any more competition than the people who were already there. There was a bunch of people, and to assess my odds I tried to figure out whether they were in groups or were representing others back in their rooms, like I was. I knew that there were only 20-25 spots on the walk, so it wouldn't take long to fill.

A little after 10am, a couple of cast members came out and asked that everyone who was interested in the lottery for that night's Turtle Walk to form a circle in the center of the lobby. I got a cellphone picture as we assembled.

IMG_0055.jpg

They explained that the drawing was for that evening's Turtle Walk, which had a fee and was in high-demand, so if you couldn't make the walk, please don't participate in the lottery. Then they had everyone put their room key-card into a hat, but just one per room. I didn't count, but probably around a dozen cards were put in.

They asked a little girl to draw the first key-card.

It wasn't mine.

A cast member took the winner's information and made a note of how many were in their party.

A second key-card was drawn. Again, not mine. They took the winner's information and updated the tally.

A third key-card was drawn. Under my breath I said, "Please! Please! Please!"
1sm134plead.gif

Not mine.

There may have been a fourth key-card drawn that wasn't mine; I forget exactly. They updated the tally and it was around 12-15 people so far. I knew that I didn't have very many chances left.

They drew again.

And said Glennbo? (Not really, but you get the idea.)

Inwardly, I yelled "Yesssss!" and did some major fist-pumps.

Outwardly, I said "Here", and tried not to celebrate too much in front of those who were still hoping for a spot.

They took my information and added my 5 family members to the tally. I think they drew one more lucky person's key-card before calling it closed.

I texted Judy, "Got it!"

And she replied, "I knew u would."

Up next: Lets hit the beach!

Congrats on getting a lottery pick! Did you rush right out and buy some tickets for the next PowerBall drawing??? :confused3

Glad you won the lottery! That's fantastic!

And I'm glad you didn't go all "In your face, losers" to the sad people who didn't get chosen.

Now hoping that you actually get to see some turtles this time.

What did Marv not get out his magnifying glass and check if Judy was in the salon !!!:rotfl2:Inthat case it would be 1 Judy ,(if I was playing)

Hah! Beat you with my not playing guess........ :woohoo:

BTW, welcome back from your trip. Can't wait to hear all about it!!! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I let you win. :rolleyes1

Another trip in the can and yet another different and fabulous trip. :goodvibes

Trying to get caught up and then finish the summer trip and then DL. I will get to it but not sure when.

Yeah!!! I'm so glad you were successful in the lottery!!! Too bad for the ones who didn't make it, but I don't "know" them, so I'm happy with the results.

Once again, very descriptive pictures and descriptions of the lobby area.

I saw blue sky! Let's hope this continues to be a lucky day for you!

Laughing at your little emotion videos. :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao: Sooo funny !! Can't wait to read about the Turtle Walk.

Congrats on winning the lotto, Glenn. I'm so glad it worked out.

Great pictures as you strolled for your coffee.

I took my camera, so it turned into another “photo stroll”; I hope you’re ready.
Photo stroll, procrastinate from working out, same difference. :rolleyes1

I don’t know what to think -- I’m still in shock that I didn’t hate it.
So let me get this straight. Every morning, you'd get up and go off on a mission to procure a drink that you expect to hate??? :confused3 :crazy2:

If that ain't addiction, I don't know what is. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Just after I took that picture, a woman walked out of the restroom, there beyond the cannon. I still had the camera up as she walked out. Yeah, that wasn’t awkward.
ashamed0001.gif
Well, at least you weren't taking pictures inside the restroom.

They drew again

And said “Glennbo?” (Not really, but you get the idea.)
:cool1::yay::thumbsup2

Hopefully the second night is more successful than the first!

Inwardly, I yelled “Yesssss!” and did some major fist-pumps.
Excellent use of gifs. :thumbsup2 :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

:confused3 Sounds very uplifting.

Otherwise known as the "Procrastinate To Avoid Working Out" stroll.

I filled my mug with some coffee out of the urn, took a taste, and….concluded that it was surprisingly good! Just about that time, a cast member came over to tend to the coffee and I asked, “is it Nescafé?” I thought that surely he would say, “Heavens no, it’s fresh-brewed. (And don’t call me ‘Shirley’.)” But instead he said, “Yes it is.”

 Say what?!

Oh, and Airplane. :thumbsup2

Then he said that they changed it recently and that this was a new kind.

They swapped it out for Dunkin Donuts. He's just contractually obligated to say it's Nescafe.:rotfl:

Just after I took that picture, a woman walked out of the restroom, there beyond the cannon. I still had the camera up as she walked out. Yeah, that wasn’t awkward.

:rotfl2::lmao:

Yet another shot of The Inn.

I like this one. :thumbsup2

Awww. Too bad she doesn't read this, and therefore you won't earn any brownie points.

Nice! Excellent work on the animated gif's. This could be the only lottery you ever win.

Now let's hope you see some turtles!

Hi Glenn. Since I came out of lurkdom on Mark's TR to grab one of his movie quotes, I thought I'd say "hello" over here too.

No, the title of this chapter doesn’t refer to villagers assembling to select an annual sacrifice, as you might have read in high school in Shirley Jackson’s short story ”The Lottery”, (which, written 60 years prior, reads like the creative spark behind “The Hunger Games”).

I totally remember reading The Lottery in school. It made me so sick to my stomach I thought I was gonna puke right there in Mrs. Fain's 2nd period English class. And, yes, when I watched The Hunger Games, all I could think about was The Lottery and my mind was just screaming "WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THESE PEOPLE?!!!!". (At least Hunger Games ended a little better for the main character.)

So. Gut wrenching, mind boggling literature aside... I just wanted to say :wave2: and let you know that I'm along for the ride. I hope your second turtle walk is more productive (or REproductive) than the first! :rotfl:
