One of our DISers checked in this am to the cruise we are taking next week. She's doing a b2b...
She told us that an upgrade from a 4a to a one bedroom was $1200 and from a vgt was $1950!!! I don't get it. If I look at our cruise next week, the difference from a 4a to a one bedroom is only $112! There no way I can get to concierge level at those prices, I'm in a 9c...
I don't understand how they get their numbers at all. :sad2:

Misunderstanding? I just looked at DCL's site and the difference between 4A and concierge for next week's cruise out of PC was $1600. For the MR out of LA, it was $1900. That's if you booked today at regular prices.

Bottom line, DCL has an algorithm that tells them how much to charge for upgrades based on what was already paid, how full the ship is, and how many upgrades are available.

The current difference on the MR between a 9C and a one bedroom suite is $4200. Don't know what you were hoping to pay at the port, but if you got it for $2000 that would be a huge bargain over booking it today. We were offered an upgrade on the Magic from an 11C (pixie dusted to a 10) to a one bedroom for $2800 on a 7 night cruise....if that helps with perspective.

It's the Magic from galveston. Price for 2a, 2c in 4a $5559.76, price for one bedroom $5671.76....difference of $112...:confused3
Right now the difference from a 9c to a one bedroom is $1918.00 if I purchased today...see where I was kind of hoping for less?

Well the prices change week to week. Was there a big difference in price from a 4A to a 1BR for this weeks cruise? I am on the Nov 3 Magic out of Galveston, the week after you, and it is about $700 to go from a 4A to a 1BR. No idea to know what you will be offered until you ask at the port.

That is very true. I just got a little disappointed. I might could justify $2000 for concierge level but not $3000 (even though it is still a good deal!) Oh we'll, it's fine. At least we are on the ship! :yay:

Of course you are on the Magic. That would be because I checked prices on the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral ane the Wonder in California. And I'm seeing the same thing you are for the difference between a 4A and a one bedroom.

Well, thing one....if I were your friend and had a 4A booked for next week, I'd for sure be at GS right now to buy that $112 upgrade for next week!

As noted above, prices do change from one week to the next, but when I went to a TA site that is still showing this week's prices on normal cabins (they don't post concierge), those prices are essentially the same as this week. Unless concierge was significantly more, it doesn't make sense.

No problem! She is on a military rate or I'm sure she would!!!

I don't know if you will be in communication with her this week or not, but one hint. It is possible that they will call her on one of the last couple of days on the ship offering an upgrade to concierge. Don't take it at that time--that price is higher than what they offer at the terminal. She knows she'll be the first person in the terminal, so that's the time to purchase it.

We saw this happen--the price at the terminal was less than 1/2 of the upgrade price we had been called about while cruising!

Thanks! I'll pass it along!

Each cruise is priced separately so you can have one week be expensive and one week be really cheap. It is possible many school districts have fall break this week and next week many don't. It also depends on how many of each cabin are sold, some times the concierge are the last to sell and sometimes they are the first. So you can get a pretty accurate estimate on the terminal upgrades the way you have, more so than comparing week to week. pirate:
