Well, this trip was....different. UPDATE - 9/1!

Does anyone ever sleep well on vacation? I surely don’t. It’s rare that I sleep a full night without waking up when we’re on vacation. I don’t know if it’s the excitement of vacation, not being in my own bed/home or something else but I usually wake up about every hour or every couple of hours during the night. Once we’re towards the end of vacation, I may have a night or two that I sleep that whole night through. The only time I’ve slept peacefully on a vacation is when we were on the Dream last year. The beds are just heavenly! The thought of them makes me excited to get on the Fantasy in June.

But, I digress. Back to talking about our most recent trip. We had checked into our hotel room in Tallahassee for Thursday night. After much tossing & turning & waking up, my alarm went off at 6:30 am. I was tired and slow to get up but eventually all three of us were out of bed by 6:45 am. Reid was enjoying a little bit of TV time:

Everyone got ready for the day and then we headed to the lobby of the Wingate for the free breakfast. I thought they had a decent food selection: scrambled eggs, sausage patties, toast, french toast, English muffins, pastries, cereals, yogurt, milk and juices (apple and orange). They also had a “make-your-own-waffle” station. We chose this option. Reid and I got drinks while Ed made a waffle for himself and one for Reid and I to share. I have to say that the waffles were pretty good! And quite filling!

Once our bellies were full, we went back to our room to grab our luggage. The boys went to load up the car while I did one last room check for our stuff. Unfortunately, I think I didn’t do a very good job this day. I am almost certain that I somehow left my favorite LSU sweater here. Unless I left it at Beach Club. Either way, my favorite sweater that I wore all the time is now gone. But, anyway, I did my room sweep and went out to meet the boys at the car.

We were loaded up and on the road for 8:25 am. Someone was excited to be back in the car and on our way:

It was a really pretty morning and everyone was in good spirits. Until Reid started getting a little restless. So, I quickly gave out another goody bag:

He loves the Three Mouseketeers movie so he was very excited when he pulled out the book. He was quite content from this point out and was pretty much able to entertain himself. When we got around Lake City, FL we made a gas and potty stop. That was quick enough. Then Reid wanted something to drink. I put some Sprite in a lidded cup for him. Well, evidently that cup doesn’t like carbonated drinks & started spewing Sprite everywhere. So, we quickly pulled into a hotel parking lot so I could empty out the Sprite. I found some water to put in his cup instead. The cup was much happier with that choice.

We were finally back on the road! Only thing was that when we got back on the road, Ed and I realized pretty much right away that we had forgot to take out cash before leaving home. We never carry cash on us. Seriously. Not even change. But we knew we were going to need some sort of currency to get onto all the lovely Florida toll roads. We drove for a bit and then got off at an exit in Gainesville. Luckily, we were able to find an ATM very close to the interstate.

Cash in wallet, we were back on the road! And we were determined not to stop until we got to Disney World! However, Reid’s bladder had different plans. Right before we were going to get on the toll road, he told us he needed to potty. Okay, fine, we’ll stop. Only problem is that there were no exits with gas stations or anything. I really felt bad for him and was close to making Ed pull over on the side of the road for the little fellow. But, we were now at the first toll plaza. Thankfully, Ed thought to ask the toll booth operator how far the next exit with a bathroom would be. Her answer was, “16 miles”. She must have seen the look of horror on my face because she quickly added, “But, you can carefully cross all the way over to your right and pull into our office parking lot. There’s a public restroom there.” Thank goodness!

We made our quick potty stop and were, once again, back on the road! It wasn’t too long before we started getting closer to Disney. Someone, besides myself, was started to getting excited.

And excitement really started to grow when this sign popped up:

And then we finally came across the best sign in the world:

Excitement was at a full-blown high at this point:

One more picture because I just love that sign so much:

Reid and I were squealing so loud that I think all of Florida certainly heard us. I was happy to have my sunglasses on so Ed couldn’t see me tearing up. I knew he’d make fun of me.

Then it wasn’t long until we arrived at our first destination:

We were on our way to the Fitness Expo for the Tower of Terror races. Ed had to pick up his packet for the 10 mile race and I needed to get mine for the 5K. This was our first time ever going to Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

When we arrived, all you could see were cars everywhere. That place was busy! But there must have been some sort of baseball tournament going on because we saw lots of baseball players unloading equipment and such. We got parked and everyone hopped out of the car, happy to stretch our legs.....and to finally be in Disney!! Someone was being a little extra silly:

We followed the crowds and made our way towards the main complex:

We made our way to the Expo. It was crowded! Once we found the lines to pick up our race bibs, we split up. Ed went to stand in his line while Reid and I went to get my bib. My line was extremely short and we were done quickly. Unfortunately, Ed had hardly moved. At this point, Reid was starting to get really whiny and defiant. I knew I had seen a booth earlier that might brighten his mood: a Dannon yogurt booth. My child loves yogurt and especially the kind they were handing out: Dannon Light & Fit. That’s the kind I buy at home and he gobbles it up!

So, Reid and I made our way to the yogurt booth. I grabbed him a Strawberry Banana yogurt and we found a spot on the floor to sit where we (hopefully) wouldn’t be trampled. Right when Reid was finishing his yogurt, Ed walked up to us. He finally had his race bib. Now, we had to go stand in another line for our race shirts. This didn’t take long but I don’t understand why they can’t just give you a shirt when they’re giving you your other race stuff.

Once we had that in our hands, I was ready to get out of there. The place was really crowded. There were a few times that Reid got stepped on/into by adults. They had you exit near a food place, ESPN Grill or something like that. Reid said he was hungry. I couldn’t blame him, it was getting past our lunchtime. I offered up food from that place but he didn’t want anything there. I asked if he would rather just go to the resort for lunch and he said yes.

We made our way back to our car and were soon headed out of Wide World of Sports!

Great update, Amanda. I'm sorry you lost your sweater. :sad1:

Reid looks so excited in the car as you are getting closer.

And I usually put on my sun glasses too when we pull up to Disney. , Although Mark loves Disney, he hasn't quite figured out the tears.

Love that sign!

So nice of her to let you use their bathroom! Whew!

I usually have problems the first couple of nights in a different bed on vacation or wherever, but this year it was the complete opposite. The beds at BLT are amazing (more incentive for you to stay there! )

I'm sorry you lost your sweatshirt! :(

Your sign pictures are so great! Reid is so cute with his little Mickey ears!

Oof, WWoS sounds too hectic and just not fun. Good idea for yall to get that done right away!

Your son is ridiculously cute. I love that you had to convince him to leave for WDW :)

Love Reid's PJs!! So cute.

I am so sorry that you lost your favorite shirt. That really stinks. I always travel with my favorite Cubs sweatshirt, and I'd be heart broken if I left it. A good excuse to shop for a new one (or two) though. :rotfl:

What a nice toll booth operator!

Yay, Yay, Yay!!!! You're at WDW!!!! A great sign.

I think you're right-seems like it would be a better idea to give out the shirts and race bibs together. It's not like Disney to miss an opportunity to do things right though, so maybe they have their reasons. :confused3

Sorry that it was so crowded and hectic there, but at leas there was yogurt! Mads is huge yogurt nut too. Have you given Reid any Greek yogurt? I've been thinking about trying it out for Maddie, but I'm not sure she'd like it. Probably shouldn't worry about it. Her favorite is the "light" one anyway.

Can't wait to hear more Amanda!!!!

Yay for getting there...I get emotional every time I see the WDW arch, too; but the tears don't usually start until I see the Castle!

I love how you can see Reid's excitement building in the photos!

Unfortunately, I think I didn’t do a very good job this day. I am almost certain that I somehow left my favorite LSU sweater here.
:headache: Maybe that lack of sleep caused you to overlook it.

Someone was excited to be back in the car and on our way
I'm sure he wasn't the only one.

Well, evidently that cup doesn’t like carbonated drinks & started spewing Sprite everywhere. So, we quickly pulled into a hotel parking lot so I could empty out the Sprite. I found some water to put in his cup instead. The cup was much happier with that choice.
Been there, done that, won't do it again. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

We never carry cash on us. Seriously. Not even change. But we knew we were going to need some sort of currency to get onto all the lovely Florida toll roads.
:headache: I know what you mean. I'm glad that most of them take credit cards now. I probably have enough loose change floating around in the console that I could scrape by to come up with enough, but seriously, it is 2012.

I really felt bad for him and was close to making Ed pull over on the side of the road for the little fellow.
He's a boy, that would be sufficient. :confused3 :lmao:

This didn’t take long but I don’t understand why they can’t just give you a shirt when they’re giving you your other race stuff.
:confused3 Doesn't make much sense, but I guess it wouldn't be Disney if they didn't make you wait in line after line. :lmao:

I absolutely love your thread...feel like I'm getting lost in a book. I'm sorry about your sweater. Reid is absolutely adorable, he reminds me of my daughter on our first trip to WDW. Can't wait to read more.

Amanda, sorry you lost your favorite sweatshirt:hug:

OK, I LOVE the pics of Reid when you got to Disney. His smile got HUGMUNGOUS

Great update, Amanda. I'm sorry you lost your sweater. :sad1:

Thank you! I am still in mourning over my sweater. I'm using a different one that I had at home but it's just not the same. :(

Reid looks so excited in the car as you are getting closer.

He definitely was getting excited! As was I!

And I usually put on my sun glasses too when we pull up to Disney. , Although Mark loves Disney, he hasn't quite figured out the tears.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Men - they just don't understand female emotions.

Love that sign!

Isn't it the best?!?

So nice of her to let you use their bathroom! Whew!

I was so relieved when she told us we could do that.

I usually have problems the first couple of nights in a different bed on vacation or wherever, but this year it was the complete opposite. The beds at BLT are amazing (more incentive for you to stay there! )

You're killing me! :rotfl2: I have heard that Contemporary has heavenly beds. You want to know what really stinks? My sister, who likes Disney but doesn't love it like me, has booked a surprise trip for her 3 kids from Dec 30th to Jan 5th. Where are they staying? Yep, Contemporary. And I talked her into upgrading to a theme park view so they can watch the NYE fireworks since they won't be in the park that late.

I'm sorry you lost your sweatshirt! :(

Thanks. I'm still so sad about it. It hurts to think about my lost sweatshirt. :rotfl:

Your sign pictures are so great! Reid is so cute with his little Mickey ears!

Thank you!! I think that was the only time during the trip that he wore his Mickey ears. :sad2:

Oof, WWoS sounds too hectic and just not fun. Good idea for yall to get that done right away!

Yeah, I didn't think it was fun at all. I know Ed would have liked to stay at the Expo & do some shopping for running stuff. But, that wasn't going to happen with Reid in tow.

Your son is ridiculously cute. I love that you had to convince him to leave for WDW :)

Awww....thank you!! :goodvibes

He loves school so much! But, I didn't think it would be that hard to get him to leave. :lmao:

Love Reid's PJs!! So cute.

Thanks!!

I am so sorry that you lost your favorite shirt. That really stinks. I always travel with my favorite Cubs sweatshirt, and I'd be heart broken if I left it. A good excuse to shop for a new one (or two) though. :rotfl:

Thank you. I'm truly heartbroken over losing it. I do need to go shopping for a new one next week when Reid's back in school. They have a fall break this week & I don't really enjoy shopping with a 4 year old boy. :sad2:

What a nice toll booth operator!

Indeed! I was so grateful for her telling us about the bathroom there.

Yay, Yay, Yay!!!! You're at WDW!!!! A great sign.

Woo Hoo!! It's so exciting arriving there!

I think you're right-seems like it would be a better idea to give out the shirts and race bibs together. It's not like Disney to miss an opportunity to do things right though, so maybe they have their reasons. :confused3

Right?!? I have to say, in their defense, that I've gone to one other race with Ed and it was done the same way. I just don't understand why they do it that way.

I was so thankful for their yogurt to tide Reid over until lunch & to make him a little happier. I haven't given Reid the Greek yogurt but Ed & I both tried it. Ed thought it wasn't too bad but I didn't care for it. I'll stick to the "Light & Fit" variety.

Can't wait to hear more Amanda!!!!

Thanks!! Hoping to get out at least 1 more update later this week.

Yay for getting there...I get emotional every time I see the WDW arch, too; but the tears don't usually start until I see the Castle!

I think I get tears at the sign because my excitement just overwhelms me. When I see the castle, I am usually trying to get pictures & find out what the family wants to do. So, I think those things keep my tears at bay.

I love how you can see Reid's excitement building in the photos!

Thank you!!

:headache: Maybe that lack of sleep caused you to overlook it.

That's what I think must have happened because I'm normally very good about double checking our room before we leave.

I'm sure he wasn't the only one.

Maybe not.....:rotfl:

Been there, done that, won't do it again. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Glad to know I'm not alone! I had never put anything carbonated in those cups before because Reid only gets Sprite on vacation or at restaurants that don't serve milk. I had no idea it would do that! :scared:

:headache: I know what you mean. I'm glad that most of them take credit cards now. I probably have enough loose change floating around in the console that I could scrape by to come up with enough, but seriously, it is 2012.

Ed & I thought the toll booths may take credit cards but we just weren't sure. I agree - it's 2012 - everywhere should take credit cards!

He's a boy, that would be sufficient. :confused3 :lmao:

Indeed! Much easier to that with a boy than a girl. :lmao: But, I was happy to find an actual bathroom for him.

:confused3 Doesn't make much sense, but I guess it wouldn't be Disney if they didn't make you wait in line after line. :lmao:

So true! Didn't think of it that way! :rotfl2:

I absolutely love your thread...feel like I'm getting lost in a book. I'm sorry about your sweater. Reid is absolutely adorable, he reminds me of my daughter on our first trip to WDW. Can't wait to read more.

Thank you so much! Such a nice compliment. There's nothing better than getting lost in a good book, is there?

Thank you! He is such a ham for the camera sometimes.

Amanda, sorry you lost your favorite sweatshirt:hug:

Thank you! I kind of feel lost without it. I seriously wear that thing every day around the house. I'm always cold.

OK, I LOVE the pics of Reid when you got to Disney. His smile got HUGMUNGOUS

Thank you!! He was so excited!

Folks.....I've had a miracle or some pixie dust or something come my way!!

Ed just called me from his office. He said, "Guess what I found?"

Me, "I don't know. What?"

Him, "Your LSU sweater."

Me, "WHAT?!? WHERE?!?"

Him, "My work backpack. In a compartment I barely use. I don't even know what I was looking for when I opened it up just now."

I am beyond excited!!!! I must have just stuffed it in there when we were leaving Tallahassee that Friday morning. I don't even know why I would do such a thing. I'm telling y'all - I was really running on fumes & excitement.

But, I'm getting my sweater tonight when he gets home. Or maybe he'll come home for lunch & I can wash it.

I can't even begin to tell y'all how happy I am. Yes, I know it's just a sweatshirt. But, it's my comfort sweatshirt. :goodvibes

YAY! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I mean, even though it's LSU, I'll be happy for you. Can't wait to play y'all! Go Dawgs!

Well, thank you for still being happy for me. :rotfl:

I'll give you my condolences for being a UGA fan. :lmao: All of Ed's family are Dawg fans but not Ed. He graduated from GA Tech. After that bit of info, will you be able to still hang out on my TR? :confused3

Are you kidding me??? You write about it and it just shows up out of nowhere???

I know, right?!? I couldn't believe it! I had just finished up my replies to y'all here when the phone rang. I feel so stupid now for not checking his work backpack. But, I truly never thought I would have put it there. :headache:

Wrong Dawgs! We're long suffering MSU fans. Although, DH did spend 6 years in grad school at UGA.

That's so cool!

Congrats!

After I posted, it crossed my mind that it may be MSU. That's much better than UGA in our book! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry your DH did have to spend 6 years there. :crazy2:

The MSU/LSU game is homecoming for LSU this year. But, MSU is having a good season so you never know what will happen in that game. LSU needs to figure out a lot of things on offense.

That's so cool!

Congrats!

Thank you!! I can't believe it!!
