A Daily Dose of Disney Drama! 5/02/13 PG 53 THE END

Glad to hear it was a smooth flight down and the connecting flights didn't cause too much trouble. 10:10, definitely a good time to get to Disney on the first day. I don't think I've ever gotten to Florida at that time.

Getting up early can be rough but I like to get to Disney and start vacation as soon as possible!

So jealous you got to stay at the Yacht Club. It looks so beautiful from all these pictures! And your view looks awesome! Club Level definitely seems worth it too. Oh a special card in the elevator, fancy! I may have to make note of Club Level if I ever consider staying at YC.
We loved the YC! Club Level is pretty awesome and it is offered at all the deluxe resorts. They each have their own lounge that serves various food etc

Mmmmmm... the food at Kona looks delicious! I could go for either or of those dishes. I'm just such a sucker for any steak or wing and it seems the ones at Kona are definitely the way to go. And the birthday dessert looks nice too, I love how they wrote Happy Birthday :goodvibes

I thought that plate was really cute too!

Sorry to hear about the comb and brush situation! I hope this didn't become an issue for you for the rest of the trip. Those are essentials I'm sure. It's pretty hard to make a decent vacation without the essential, but of course it's Disney though I hope your hair didn't become part of this daily dose of drama though.

Thanks. I made do with the teeny brush and comb. The humidity usually screws up my hair anyway :rotfl:

Love the pictures across the lagoon to the Grand Floridian! Such an eyesore that darn construction! Hope they finish soon because I would love to see the GF in all it's beautiful glory without gross cranes and cement trucks. Bleh! :P

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

I agree the GF is too beautiful to have all that construction work taking away from its appearance. Thanks for reading :)

Ugg, I've forgotten my hairbrush before. It seems much easier to forget than anything else. Glad you were able to find a replacement, even if it took a while. You would think they would be in all the giftshops! :confused3

I'm glad to hear that your DH was able to get a beer when he checked in. We're staying club level for the first time in April, and I'll be sure to tell DH about that. It would definitely start the vacation on the right foot with him, especially if it is a Sam Addams! :rotfl2:

Looking forward to hearing more!

I could not understand why it was so hard to find a brush and comb and why they were so crummy. It seems like it would be a common item to forget :confused3

Club Level is awesome! I hope you love it! The beer selections were pretty good. They offered more than just the standard Bud. :)

Hi Dawn & Caitlin! I'm definitely in for this one! Caitlin & I are friends on Facebook and I can't wait to read about the whole trip!

The Yacht Club is gorgeous! And your view is spectacular! Love it!

Glad to have you along :) YEs the YC is gorgeous! I did not want to leave!

I'm glad you two had a nice lunch. Your room looks really nice. How do you not sell combs and brushes? :confused3

Our tale begins VERY EARLY on Tuesday Sept 25th. Dale and I were flying out at 6:05am.

Ouch, that's early. Did you guys get any sleep before you left? I know I'd be clock watching and thinking, "I've got to get to sleep! I have to be up in 4 hours... 3 hours... 2 hours... 1 h... oh forget it!"

Well I don't know why but it seemed harder to get out the door when it was just the 2 of us :confused3

You didn't have a young princess to urge you along.

Isn't it the best feeling when you arrive?!

::yes::

We had rented a compact car from Alamo for $108 for the week! I couldn't pass that deal up!

Not bad! Did you have some kind of discount?

Dale isn't a fan of renting a car on vacation but since I am very leery of the buses at SSR I insisted. Plus, we had several things going on that would have required a cab if we didn't rent.

I understand... but I'm with Dale, at least for Disney vacations. To me that's the biggest plus of staying on site... no driving.

We chose an HHR

An HHR? That's considered a compact?!?

because it had the biggest backseat

All right! Nice to know that after all those years of being married, you still rent a car based on the size of the backseat.

You crazy kids, you.
smilie_love_383.gif

Ummm it turned out that our scan hadn't processed and we were kind of...how do I put this....well we were sort of stealing the car :rotfl2: Talk about embarassing!!

:lmao: Whoops! Coulda been worse, you could've been caught in the backseat!

Since we were just staying there 2 nights we decided to splurge and booked Club Level with a garden view.

Nice. :thumbsup2

When you arrive for checkin for club level you are quickly escorted to the elevator where it takes a special card (a gold KTTW card ) to get the elevator to access the 5th floor. You are then directed to a desk where you get to sit in big comfy chairs while you are checked in. Then someone politely asks what they can get you to drink! I got a coke while Dale ordered a Sam Adams. Yes, this is the life! Our drinks arrived just about the time our checkin was complete so we took them to our room.

Very nice. Nothing like a little pampering every now and then.

Oh and that garden view I booked?

The wedding gazebo! It was totally worth the upgrade!

Nice!:thumbsup2 Wouldn't it've been cool if when you got to your room, a wedding was going on?

Dale was eager to test out the new camera and took lots of pics around the Poly while we waited to be seated. (yes, Caitlin is her father's daughter ;))

:rotfl: So that's where she gets it!

I love Kona and I order the same thing everytime we go. I know, I'm boring and predictable but I don't care!

If you lived near there and ate there all the time... then yes, boring and predictable. But considering you only get the chance to eat there once in a while... then order what you're craving for Pete's sake!

It was hard not to notice the DVC construction at the GF. I feel terrible for the brides who have this interfering with their weddings!

By that you mean, construction noise? Or was the construction so close to it that it would interfere?

We found a swing and sat for awhile and enjoyed the beautiful day and just being together at Disney.

Of course... the HHR's backseat was for later. Good thinking.

As we were walking back to the car it suddenly hit me that after I had done my hair that morning, I forgot to pack my brushes!

Uh, oh.

(that was the daily drama for day1 but the drama gets much more dramatic later on)

Okay... But if the "more dramatic" means you forgot the nail clipper, I might be inclined to say "meh".

When he got up we got changed and headed to.......I'll save that for next time.

I know, I know! The backseat of the HHR, right?

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for posting! Great pics, too! :goodvibes

I actually slept pretty well that night. We had so much going on that I was pretty exhausted.

You didn't have a young princess to urge you along.

Good point!

::yes::

Not bad! Did you have some kind of discount?

I just used the Alamo Insiders (which is free to join) and got that rate.

I understand... but I'm with Dale, at least for Disney vacations. To me that's the biggest plus of staying on site... no driving.

He didn't end up driving it all that much. My dad ended up doing most of the driving :)

An HHR? That's considered a compact?!?

Yup!

All right! Nice to know that after all those years of being married, you still rent a car based on the size of the backseat.

:rotfl: No the big backseat was because for a brief time there would be 5 of us cramming in the backseat. Shame on you :rotfl:

:lmao: Whoops! Coulda been worse, you could've been caught in the backseat!

That would be embarassing!

Nice. :thumbsup2

Absolutely!

I just saw on the Dis that someone watched a wedding from their room the other day. It would be fun to be nosey and watch!
:rotfl: So that's where she gets it!

I wish!

Thanks! And thanks for always making me laugh!

Your pictures of the Yacht Club are so gorgeous...:)

(I'm excited because even though I'm not staying there -in seven weeks I'll be next door at the Beach Club...)

So sorry about the comb/brush issue...:rolleyes2 that's not a good feeling...not having something you need... (I have thick curly hair... and not having my vent brush... let's just say... there would be some seriously bad hair days...:confused3)

I've always really liked the food at Kona... yum

I hope the drama doesn't get too dramatic...

Arriving in MCO is a great feeling, and especially when you arrive early! And nice on the rental only being $108 for the week. I'm obsessed with finding good prices on rentals.

Nice, staying at the Yacht Club! It's one of the only resorts on property I haven't tried at some point in all of my Disney years. It just looks beautiful.

Lapu Lapu! Have yet to try it, but it looks so yummy!

Oh man, forgetting a brush? That's not cool at all. Not cool.

We ended our trip with a night at the Beach Club. You'll love it! Since we're a family of adults we preferred YC but I think BC is more family friendly.

I use like 3 brushes each morning so not having even 1 was awful! I called Caitlin and made her promise to bring them :rotfl:

I'm afraid the drama gets very dramatic :crazy2:

Yes it is!
The only way I can justify a rental is if I can find a great price so I get obsessive too!
The YC is lovely and the staff was great :thumbsup2

I could have kicked myself when I realized I'd forgotten it!

First time I have read any of your TRs and I am a sucker for a good story....count me in.

Great TR so far! DH and I want to take a couples trip and stay at the Beach Club. That really is a great location when you want to spend the majority of the time at Epcot.
Love Kona so much. My guys always get the wings there. I had a Lapu Lapu for the first time in June and WOW was that strong. Very good though - I would definitely get it again.
Can't wait to hear more of the trip.

Oh, and a question for you. How did you get such a great rate for the rental? Was that regular price or do you get discounted because of being a travel agent? I can never seem to find a reasonable rate.

The BC and YC are the perfect location! I hope you get to take a couples trip there!
Glad you enjoyed Kona too :)

Travel agents don't get special car rental rates although I'd love it if we did!
The Dis has a lot of threads about deals on car rentals (sorted by month you're traveling) and I began following the Sept one quite awhile ago. Someone posted a code, which I used, and that together with the discount for Alamo Insiders got me the great price. If you rent sign up for Alamo Insiders, it's free and saves $ :thumbsup2

Just joining in! I'm typically active on the wedding sub-forum and always wondered where the Shades of Green bride (Caitlin) went which led me to you guys' trip report. I got engaged at Shades of Green so I was looking forward to seeing her planning...sounds like everything worked out for her in a much better way though! :thumbsup2

It would in fact turn out that having a car would be a blessing and made things so much easier! We got down to the Alamo rental area and there was a long line so we did the kiosk, where you scan your license and reservation, and then head to the garage to pick out your car. Easy peesy! We chose an HHR because it had the biggest backseat and hopped in and drove out of the garage. Well we attempted to head out of the garage. We were stopped by security. Ummm it turned out that our scan hadn't processed and we were kind of...how do I put this....well we were sort of stealing the car :rotfl2: Talk about embarassing!! He was actually pretty nice about it and properly processed our reservation and sent us on our way.

Great deal!:thumbsup2 Love the story about security...I'd be a little freaked out! :lmao:

Club level sounds awesome! I've been looking for details about it since we are staying at Boardwalk club level on our wedding night...I had no idea about the drinks at check-in!!

Wonderful views!!

When we were done eating we decided to head outside and check out the Poly beach area.

A much nicer view

Thanks for sharing these...our wedding is next month and I'm going a little bonkers thinking about how the constructions may affect our pictures and guests.

Thanks for sharing the tips about rental cars...we have a few guests flying in to Sanford and they assumed Magical Express picks up from there as well...so we're on the hunt for some rental car deals as well!!

Looking forward to reading more! :cool1:

Yes its been quite a year!

I should have taken it as a sign of how crazy this trip was going to be!:rotfl:

Great tip Dawn - thanks!!!!

Wow, I just found this today and it's already on page 8?!? I haven't been on the DIS much the last few days so I guess that's why I missed it. You guys had a great room and view at the YC!

Great price on the car, too. I haven't had a rental car there in years, The times I have had a car was because I drove there. I loved my last 2 trips there where I didn't have to drive at all (especially with Magical Express!) I drive a lot for my job (I am a Home Care RN) and my DH doesn't drive (seizure disorder) and that means whenever we go out I have to do all the driving so I consider it part of my vacation that I can go a week and not have to drive at all! :-)

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip, hope the drama isn't too bad!
