Emmysdaddy Joins the Damsels to Dine, Even with Princesses: Em started PDR see link

Glad to see Teppan Edo was satisfactory once again. I haven't been to a hibachi-style restaurant in years, so Teppan Edo might be the perfect place for me to experience it again. On a random note, the picture of Michael with a Hello Kitty backpack is awesome. :thumbsup2

Although the menu is pretty standard it is more about the experience and the fun of group dining!

Just think how jealous your classmates would be if you showed up for classes with a backpack like that? :lmao:

Great TE review! I am hoping they let me sub out the mushrooms for broccoli instead.....fingers crossed for me lol!

Thanks Nicki! I bet they could hook you up with broccoli - they have it in the kitchen... at least I know Tokyo Dining has it and they must share the kitchen. You would be a hoot to eat at TE with!!! :upsidedow

We love Teppan Edo, but it didnt make our plans this trip - only because we had already spent a week on I-Drive before staying at Disney and were based at the Rosen Inn so went to Shogun Japanese twice during our week!

In answer to your earlier question - yes Paige was presented with a chef hat.

I can definitely understand being burned out on teppan/Japanese already - you can only have so much before needing more variety!

I'm sure you have some adorable photos of your DD with that special moment. :)

Oops, sorry about the peach schnapps. I guess not everyone enjoys that as much as I do. :lmao: I will therefore award you a bonus point for downing it anyway! :thumbsup2

I believe that brings your total to 23

Hi Barb! No worries about the cocktail suggestion... it surprised me that I didn't taste more than the peach. It wasn't bad! :goodvibes At least I'm still racking up the points!! :thumbsup2

I agree with DDW! The pic of Michael with the Hello Kitty backpack is priceless! When I was at Tokyo Dining, I peeked into the Teppan Edo rooms and everyone I saw was having a fabulous time! I definitely should try it the next time we visit. Thank you for the awesome review!

There should always be an extra emergency compartment in our bellies for dessert. XD Thank you for the sweet compliments, Brenda.

Thanks Rosey! Here's another Michael moment on vacation... I really have to keep an eye on him!

I am so kicking myself for not going here a few weeks ago. We chose San Angel in as I have always wanted to go and it was gross :rotfl2: TE looks so amazing and the noodles look great. Heck I might have to go down the street to my favorite Japanese steakhouse for lunch after reading your review!

Yikes! Sorry San Angel wasn't so good. What did you order, I want to avoid it in the future! ;)

I'm in the mood for some good Japanese about now as well! :)

Me, me, me, I do. I was just about to comment that the peach schnapps sounds like the best thing about that drink and the peachier, the better - peachy keen jellybean :thumbsup2

Great review of Teppan Edo. I would skip the veggies but the rest of it looks delicious. I am lookin gofr ideas of things which will be fun for our whole family to do on our big family trip on 2 years (nothing like forward planning) and Teppan Edo looks perfect :)

Michael looks so cute with the Hello Kitty backpack but not sure it was his colour ;)

Hi there Joh!!!! Are you a veggie hater? :lmao: Ok, I wouldn't make you eat your veggies but you would have to drink your entire cocktail.. oh, wait, that's no problem. :upsidedow

Are you bringing your girls and Daniel (Gary of course) for your big family trip? How exciting and definitely a great thing to look forward to planning! :goodvibes

I'll let Michael know that perhaps a purple backpack would go better with his outfit!

So sorry about Michael's fish, though! Swordfish is a difficult fish to cook because if it overcooks for 30 seconds it's dry and tough. Hope he was pleased enough with the overall meal and experience to make up for it.

Hi Quin! I noticed that the swordfish steak was thick too so I think you are right - it might be hard to cook. He was definitely good with the experience - heck, he got to eat with me and Em!! :rotfl:

Have never tried Teppan Edo since DD is afraid of the smoking grills of the local hibachi places. :rolleyes2 Would really love to try it soon, since the food looks so yummy.

Wonder why they don't accept the TIW card?

Hi Rachel! There is some amount of smoking with the cooking so it could be a little scary. However, the chefs make the experience fun and I've seen some really cater to the kids and do special things for them. One day it may be the perfect time to try it. :)

Brenda, I had the steak with enchilada. The enchilada was more like a dried up taquito with no flavor and the steak was pretty bad. The guacamole tasted off as well. I should have known better!

The Wave ...of American Flavors
DSC04047.jpg

We had an 8am ADR at The Wave which was conveniently located downstairs in the CR lobby area. For us that meant no boats, no monorails, and no walking anywhere to breakfast – except across the sky bridge.

For those that have followed my past dining reviews, specifically for breakfast at The Wave, you are familiar with my quest to find something on the menu that was worthy of another visit. This was our 3rd time to dine at The Wave and although Em finds it perfectly acceptable, I’m not the biggest fan. Let’s see if this would be the meal to make a positive impression!

Beth was our server and she did a great job! Since The Wave offers a buffet option we decided to check out it out to see if we preferred to order off the menu or to go with the endless parade of food! There were a lot of fresh and delicious options but only Michael decided on the buffet.

Em ordered the multigrain waffle with fruit compote with a scrambled egg on the side instead of breakfast meat. I decided to try something different that caught my eye – spinach, tomato and feta cheeses scramble. It is served with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit.

Let’s start with Michael’s breakfast choice. Although he opted for the buffet, he ate very light and only selected granola with fresh blueberries and a few slices of smoked salmon with tomato, red onion, capers and cucumber. I guess in his effort to eat healthy he felt no need to have a bagel and cream cheese with the smoked salmon.

This was the second time that Em ordered the multi-grain waffle and although I thought she wasn’t a fan last time she said that it just didn’t have enough compote since she didn’t use butter and syrup. This time she said that it was very good and didn’t regret ordering this a second time. The waffle is presented with a dusting of powdered sugar and crowned with a fresh strawberry. The scrambled egg was a great choice as well – perfectly cooked – no complaints there.

Now for my choice… I had imagined that the spinach would be mixed in with the scrambled eggs, feta and tomato but it was served on the side. It was a huge portion so it could easily have been shared. Let’s start with what I loved… the potatoes. They were nicely seasoned and with a good dousing of ketchup they were heavenly. The biscuit was a lovely creation! It was soft and warm and flakey and utterly delicious. Honestly, it was the best part of my meal.

As for the eggs…I love feta so it wasn’t for lack of devotion for this strong flavor; however, there was a LOT of feta in this dish. It was so distracting and predominant in the eggs that I had to call it quits not even half way through. The other complaint I had with the meal was the diced tomato which in my opinion didn’t add any flavor but merely served to water down the dish and create a puddle of moisture. The spinach was ok when mixed with the eggs but on their own they were simply too dull and plain.

I tried, I really tried to find a reason to look forward to coming back for breakfast. Although I didn’t find it I will be back because Em really likes this place and we can’t beat the convenience. Maybe next time I should just go for the buffet!

Besides the lack of any breakfast options that are worthy of my hard earned money, two other reasons that this restaurant does not resonate with me is;
1. The fact that it lacks any obvious Disney theming and
2. The absence of windows or some view to make it feel more scenic
But those objections aside, it is a convention hotel so it provides an alternative to the non-holiday traveler to enjoy a meal without feeling like they should ditch their briefcase for some fastpasses!

The total with $8.89 in TiW savings was $45.88.

Up Next: Le Cellier - Such Canadian goodness!!

Brenda, I had the steak with enchilada. The enchilada was more like a dried up taquito with no flavor and the steak was pretty bad. The guacamole tasted off as well. I should have known better!

Oh no! That sounds exactly like an option I would choose there. Well.. I've been warned. I do love guac so I would be disappointed to pay for it and then it go to waste! Thanks for letting me know! :upsidedow

Darn! For some reason I was hoping that you'd say that you loved The Wave this time. Which is strange because I've never eaven eaten breakfast there before! :rotfl2: I'd like to try those sweet potato pancakes sometime though. I too would think that the spinach was mixed into the scramble...strange. Sorry to hear about the feta overload. You can definitely see the abundance of feta just from the photo.

And I love restaurants like Teppan Edo. Even if it's our local Benihana, I totally dig places like that! And I'm sure that the other couple was very happy to have met you! ;) I know I was!:thumbsup2

And thanks for your kind words about the running. I've got a nasty case of shin splints right now and with the help of a friend that runs, I've figured out that I've been pushing it too hard on the hills near out house. We live far out in the middle of nowhere. It's farm country with nothing but hills and while I try to drive into town where it's flat, it isn't always possible after work now that it gets dark out so early. But now I'll have no choice! So my time on yesterday's 5K was not great but I'll take it!

Heck your time is still better than mine! This week my 3.1 mile avg (5K) has been 36:30.... slow but at least I'm committed to running 5 mornings a week. In fact, this is the first off day in 5 so I'm enjoying being lazy until the nagging voice in my head says just go for a short run since I need to still lose my vacation weight!! ;) Oh, and I run a lot on a treadmill which is really boring but I keep the incline set at 2% so am conditioned for mini hills.

Love your TE report. We eat there every trip. I love the white yum yum sauce and do not like the other 2 sauces. This is a favorite for us too.

I am sorry that you didn't like your breakfast at The Wave. I have tried to fit it in for breakfast the past few trips and have even debated it for Andrew and I in November. Not sure if I should keep trying or just let it go. I do like the looks of some of the buffet items ... the cinnamon buns and sweet potato pancakes in particular. I guess we will see!

We have really found that there are few Disney restaurants that serve a really good breakfast, so we just get CS, use a snack credit or just have a bagel in the room. Roaring forks did have a pretty decent tasting breakfast when we were last there, though. Mickey waffles were always fresh and we really liked the pancakes.

Looking forward to reading more !!

We did dinner at The Wave last time and I wasn't very impressed. The whole lacking light thing is a little much for me. I probably would have fallen back asleep at breakfast! Looking forward to your Le Cellier review. I canceled our ADR recently for our December trip because I couldn't add two people to it, and it was too late in the afternoon for lunch for us, hoping my change to the Coral Reef is for the better!

Thanks Nicki! I bet they could hook you up with broccoli - they have it in the kitchen... at least I know Tokyo Dining has it and they must share the kitchen. You would be a hoot to eat at TE with!!! :upsidedow

You have NO idea; you should see her at the place in Naples. ;)

Loved your review of The Wave. It's one of those restaurants we've not yet gotten too, but havve read a mixed bag of reviews on. Em's waffle looks right up my alley though and Mark, I'm sure, would love the buffet, but we've decided we need to cut back on our buffets after the weight I put on last month on our trip. :rotfl2:

We've only been to The Wave for breakfast once and were not impressed at all. We both opted for the buffet and it was the worst meal of our trip. I agree with you, it has no Disney feel to it. Not a place we'd return to any time soon.

Sorry that you didn't love your dish at The Wave. I know it gets mixed reviews (I've had some disappointing experiences there as well), but I can't help it - The Wave has become one of my favorite non-signature restaurants at Disney. ::yes::

We still haven't tried the Wave but must give it a go one of these days

I know it sounds crazy but it's the lack of windows that's putting us off!

I like to see a bit of sunshine, especially at breakfast :beach:

Thanks poohangel! I would gladly trade you the white sauce for the ginger and mustard versions! :)

Hi Vicki! I say keep with your plan to eat at The Wave and let me know how you like the buffet because I'm running out of options to try there!! :rotfl2:

I've really debated doing that more and more since I like the flexibility of not having to be somewhere at a set time and you can't beat Mickey waffles at some of the food courts. Roaring Forks is on my must try list.

If you haven't been to Coral Reef before - be prepared to be mesmerized by the fish and turtles and rays! I asked our waiter if they ever notice that they are a few fish short in the aquarium due to the shark - uhhh yeah - sometimes they eat "off schedule"

Le Cellier up next!

You have NO idea; you should see her at the place in Naples. ;)

Kathy, Nicki is lucky to have dined with you and Mark and you are lucky to have dined with Nicki and Todd!! I'm sure dinner with you guys would be a blast!

Uhhhh yeahhhh.... those buffets and all the other vacation dining still has me not fitting in my jeans! Darn! :rolleyes2 But you have to eat next trip!

We've only been to The Wave for breakfast once and were not impressed at all. We both opted for the buffet and it was the worst meal of our trip. I agree with you, it has no Disney feel to it. Not a place we'd return to any time soon.

Hi there!! Hmmmm... you have me worried about my only other option left! I may have to ask for a side of biscuits since I KNOW that I like those! :lmao:

Sorry that you didn't love your dish at The Wave. I know it gets mixed reviews (I've had some disappointing experiences there as well), but I can't help it - The Wave has become one of my favorite non-signature restaurants at Disney. ::yes::

I really want to try a lunch or dinner since there are several options that interest me! The watermelon salad is the one that sticks in my mind. Breakfast may just not be to my liking there. I'll still be back again.

We still haven't tried the Wave but must give it a go one of these days

I know it sounds crazy but it's the lack of windows that's putting us off!

I like to see a bit of sunshine, especially at breakfast :beach:

I am now second guessing adding that to my review since a lack of windows is soooo picky! It wasn't enough that I bashed the food but then I had to go and insult their decor!!! :rotfl2:

Sorry third time wasn't a charm at the Wave:sad2:.

Maybe the 4th time will be the magic number. :confused3 Em and Michael liked it so I'm odd man out. ;)

Sunshine Seasons - Cupcake Break

Mid-morning we were in the Land and I decided to simply go to Sunshine Seasons and take some photos of the menu for consideration at a later date. Taking photos was no problem but when I saw the dessert case, that was it …. I wasn’t going to go anywhere until I had sampled one of the delicious looking cupcakes. Deciding which one was not easy but I finally landed on the coconut pineapple. Em wanted a krispy treat while Michael opted to continue his healthy kick and get a banana.

I love coconut, I love pineapple, I love cake – put it all together and it is one awesome treat!! I don’t recall if the inside had a filling since I didn’t take a photo?? I do remember that it was moist and delicious. Em was happy with her choice. This was a nice little mid-morning break that made up for any disappointment with breakfast!

I will definitely return because I have my eye on the carrot cupcake as well as the whoopie pies.

Here’s probably the perfect place to admit that we did not return to Sunshine Seasons the remainder of our trip. Therefore, for #9 of Jabead’s List of 18 for which she was trying to get me to expand my horizons…
9) Try the blueberry croissant bread pudding at Sunshine Seasons - I failed this task. It is still on my “one day” list but it would call for us getting our hineys to Epcot before breakfast service ends. That’s a challenge when I travel with certain individuals who prefer sleep over breakfast many times.

I'm so glad you enjoyed that cupcake! It wasn't my favorite, but it was enjoyable enough to inspire my over-the-top cupcake crawl. :rotfl: It didn't have a filling, but I don't think it needed one. :thumbsup2

My regret for last trip was not trying enough cupcakes! I had vowed to try the berry bread pudding in November but now I may have to have that cupcake instead! Or jeez, maybe both! :thumbsup2 ;)
