I am considering DHS or MK for Dec 1 and think I stumbled onto a site that says the ABC parade taping is in MK on December 1 - Can anyone confirm this and share any opinions of whether to avoid the MK this day or not? We don't have park hoppers so we wouldn't be able to just show up after its done - I did have the dessert party booked for this day but can cancel if its going to be a zoo and go the day before!

Thanks!

1- True.

2- From opening time until about 2PM, the RIDES at MK should be about like normal for that time of year,
give or take.
It will be Main Street that is slammed for the morning and very early afternoon hours.
Mid-to-late afternoon that day should find the rides being busier as those in the parade crowd
are released into the rest of the park following the video shooting.

As far as Wishes, it's about a toss-up.
And, you'll be in an isolated area for that hour.

But, if you prefer visiting a different park that day, that'll be fine.

My opinion :

1) As said, some parts of Magic Kingdom (mostly Main Street) will be jam packed as others won't be that bad. Just make sure you arrive early enough to skip Main Street before it gets too crowdy.

2) If you have the Dessert Party for Wishes, don't worry about the crowds for you will have your spot anyway, and a hanful of awesome desserts!

3) Many people will decide to visit another Park that day because of the shooting. Then, it might not be that bad for Magic Kingdom

We have AK on our itinerary for that day. Now I'll know the reason if it's a bit more crowded than I expected.

Actually, unless you were planning on going to the MVMCP, you wouldn't be able to do the dessert party on November 30. That's a disadvantage to going during the Christmas season - MVMCPs mean that there are fewer opportunities to see Wishes and the MSEP.

We were there last year....

you could not go up or go accross mainstreet or through the castle, we were taken backstage after the turnstiles to get around the taping, on the tommorowland side, so if you wanted to go to frontierland or adventureland you had to make the big circle.

Also, 90% of the nice folks you see on main street are cast members and their families, not regular guests, (and they have to stay the whole day until taping is stopped)

And they tape each section of the parade multiple times...

not to mention trying to get past 2000 cheerleaders who they had running down mainstreet.

it wasnt a fun day... and If i had known we would have rearranged our park days

I went last year during the taping of the parade. It was really neat, however extremely crowded. Trying to walk down main street is nearly impossible. I went to the train station and stood on the balcony and watched some of the filming. It was also crowded up there, but not too bad. It is neat from up there because I had a great view of Mario Lopez. :cloud9: I rode the train over to Frontierland and it was still really crowded over there. So much so that it was hard to navigate through the people. If I had small children, I probably wouldn't have been able to handle it at all lol. I rode a few rides and then got fed up with the crowds and went to AK where it was empty lol. I came back that night when it had died down a little. I was standing in line for Space Mountain and a castmember came up from a side area and started talking to the castmember letting people on the ride. The ride castmember came over to us since we were next in line and told us we had to wait a little longer because they were bringing in a party. I just assumed it was a make a wish trip or something. 4 people walked up with the CM and one of the guys was not dressed like normal DW tourists lol. Black fuzzy hat, denim shorts, white socks up to his knees, and a short denim jacket and sunglasses. Knowing that Justin Bieber was there because he performed that morning I thought it was him incognito, but when he turned around it was Jaden Smith. The next day I saw a pic of him and Bieber at the park and he was wearing that same outfit. So it was definitely him. (Sorry for writing a book haha). I had fun watching the parade filming, and I would do it again. It's a neat experience minus the crazy crowds.

If that's the taping day, I would DEFINITELY avoid the MK during the morning/early afternoon. REALLY crowded. You can't move up Main Street.

heres a picture I found of mainstreet during the filming. It's not that great of a shot because its with my phone, but it'll give you an idea of how crowded.

DISNEY WORLD CHRISTMAS PARADE TAPING:

1) Schedule:
. . . usually the first weekend in December
. . . typically Friday and Saturday, with Sunday as a rain-day
. . . activities start at 7:00am, before park opening
. . . taping can take through about 1:00, and frequently 2:00-3:00pm
2) Tickets:
. . . taping tickets are usually open to Annual Pass and DVC members
. . . these are offered on their own website
. . . the next priority is for Cast Members
. . . lastly are general public
. . . these allow early entry into the park
. . . after tickets are gone, general public can get tickets
. . . other public access is done through normal admission
3) Viewing
. . . those with taping tickets get the better close-up viewing spaces
. . . however, when getting tickets, they must agree to be there for hours
. . . this makes for a very long day of standing in one place
. . . those without pre-arranged taping tickets get to fill-in
. . . unfortunately, fill-ins are usually third or fourth row from the front
. . . in this manner, shirts/gestures that may be offending are not visible on TV
4) Locations
. . . the majority of the filming is done on Main Street
. . . a VERY, VERY, VERY crowded Main Street
. . . other taping can be around the parks, but sporadically
. . . the taping does not usually interfere with ride times or ride lines
5) Expectations
. . . the parade, itself, is stopped several times and repeated for best shots
. . . at times, it can be very boring when the scenes are re-staged
. . . you can see some celebrities, but usually no photos nor autographs
6) Participation
. . . the families you see on TV cameras are usually pre-selected
. . . in many cases, the children are paid actors from the local area
. . . yes, some TV families are picked the day of, but most are pre-chosen

I've been to the MK twice so far, during taping of some sort. Usually for the Thursday or Friday tapings of various acts. I try to avoid MK on Sats in any case...and the day of parade taping??? Like the plague. I did venture into MK about 5pm once, the day of parade taping. OMG!!! Couldn't wait to get out of there. It was shoulder to shoulder people.
Stayed for my Plaza dinner and left!!!

That's interesting because one year I arrived on a Saturday and went straight to MK, arriving at about 7:00. While in line for Splash Mountain, another guest told me that they had been taping the parade that day (which I hadn't known prior to that), and I never would've known if that person hadn't told me.

Wishing I could BUT already have a 8:05 breakfast res at CP an its too late to do any shuffling :furious:

We will see you there! Our CP ressie is also for 805 to celebrate my daughter's birthday. As long as you avoid Main St you should be fine. Just leave the park by the time the parade taping is done. That's our plan. And get there plenty early enough to get to CP.
