I must must must have Tonga Toast on our next trip. It always looks so good.

We have a lovely meal at Tony's and Paige was selected to be Junior Chef and got to design an icecream sundae for chef to put on the menu for Tony.

It was a slightly strange experience as there was obviously something going on in the conservatory area where we were seated as there were suited people constantly checking out the tables behind us and finally a group of what I can only describe as Disney bigwigs were brought in and seated and the waiters were tripping over themselves to pour them bottled water.

Great Tony's review!! I looooved that pistachio creme brulee too! It was my favorite dessert from my trip!!

Actually, the pistachio creme brulee used to be served at the dessert party but from the looks of your review it was switched to plain vanilla!

Glad to hear Tonys was a good experience. I really loved my meal there we had a couple of Saturday's ago and of course who doesn't love Lady and the Tramp.

Insert Dismeet #4 here! I had the pleasure of meeting Neil who recognized me from the DisBoards. He was walking by after eating breakfast at ‘Ohana with his family and said hi. (I don’t recall his username but I thought it was FreezeOne but now I can’t find anyone with that name on the Boards. :confused3) "

Hi Brenda!!!

It was a very pleasant surprise to meet you and Michael and Em at Kona!!! I just happened to look over as we were heading for the Monorail and I recognized you right away from your dining reviews(by the way, you are starting to rival MickeyNicki in that area!). My wife started to ask me how I knew who you were and then she said "Oh wait, Disboards, right?"

Keep up the great reviews and maybe we see again some time!!

I've really been looking forward to reading your Tony's review, Brenda. It seems like we always end up cancelling our lunch reservation there. I'm glad to see that you and the family really enjoyed eating there.

Brenda, back and caught up again (now if I could just get caught up on your TR).

LOVE your Kona review. This has become a must do for us as well (we ate there last month and will be back in December with Nicki and Todd). We don't do the Tonga Toast (I don't do bananas and Mark found it too sweet), but I love the omelet that Michael had and Mark loved the pancakes, although, like you, he would have preferred the pineapple on the side.

We've not been to Tony's in years (probably 2006 or 2007) and your review has me thinking we should go back for lunch...your flatbread looks absolutely yummy.

Brenda for whatever reason I feel like you are so brave and adventurous to go to Tony's! Both my DH and I pretty much abhor red sauce so I'm not sure we'll ever try it.

You better believe I'm going after that Tonga toast though.

It's been a busy week but I'm determined to get a few reviews knocked out and get caught up with all of you good people!! :thumbsup2

Wow! I'm so glad to see that Tony's wasn't awful! From the great service to the pistachio crème brûlée, it sounds like you had a solid meal with some memorably positive aspects. In spite of all the negativity surrounding it, Tony's has gotten quite a few positive reviews recently, so maybe I need to finally try it.

And yep, at Kona Cafe I recently had a sweet potato & lemongrass soup (along with pork belly lettuce wraps) for lunch. Both dishes have since been removed from the menu, but I'd still be happy to return for lunch or dinner again. :thumbsup2

Yeah, Tony's definitely moved up our list as far as places that we must return and visit in the future.

Thought I recalled a soup in your Kona dining experience.

Is the tide turning at Tony's? It seems like I've been reading more good reports lately. Your whole meal looks pretty good to me--especially that pistachio brulee!!

I've been trying to decide on a TS restaurant for one of our MK days that will make everybody happy. This may fit the bill...my DD and her BF would like the food just fine, and I can enjoy decor from one of my favorite movies (and dessert!).

Love reading your reviews!

Hi there! The creme brule was definitely the best part of the meal. I do like the theming of the restaurant.

The reviews of Tony's have been getting a little better it seems!!

Your flatbread does look good. (I LOVE basil!!!)

Hi Paula! I know you are enjoying your time with Hunter at WDW right now!!!

Tony's does seem to be getting better reviews... hmmm that may not be good since others' may be competing for my seat in the restaurant!

I was out of town for a few days and I was happy to see two new reviews upon my return! Kona is hands down my breakfast favorite. Eilee does the TT and I do the Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes just like you and Em. You can't go wrong with either of those! And I'm so glad to see Tony's get some positive reviews. I think I'll actually need to give it a shot. I'm pretty easy to please anyway and I think there are plenty of items on the menu that I'd like. The only table service place I've been to in MK is CRT so I must change this!

That's a lovely picture of Emily by the way!
Hi Tracy! Yay we are dining twins! The Tonga Toast is good but those pancakes were just made for me!

Yes, you need to expand your dining horizons at MK!

Oh, and btw, great job running! I've moved my running time to in the morning instead of in the evening and I like it so much better. I don't run as far but I'm more consistent.

Yet another great Tony's review. It seems like this is a restaurant on the up :)

One thing that seems really consistent in the reviews I've read recently is that the service is great

Sounds like you had a very enjoyable lunch Brenda

I've only been to Tony's twice and I we've not had any issues with the service. In fact, this last time I would say was among the best.

I'm here, I'm here, have you missed me ;) Sorry I've been a stranger to these reviews lately - real life appears to have socked me in the jaw and I just haven't had enough time to DIS :sad1:

The food at Tony's looked pretty good, particularly the white pizza - since I abhor tomatoes, that would be the perfect option for me. Just one question, though, was that basil on the top - or bay-zil ;)

Yes Joh I HAVE missed you. I've been bad this week about keeping up but I have enjoyed your FB updates! You are a hoot!

ha! Yes, a little bay-zil made an appearance!!

Loving your Kona review and your Tony review, too. We have both scheduled. I want to try the Samoan at Kona and DH requested Tony's especially for Lady and Tramp. Glad it was good, and I'm planning on getting that creme brûlée for sure! :cloud9:

You only have a couple more sleeps!! Your trip is so close.

I hope you and your DH like Tony's. Yes, get the creme brulee and let me know what you think!

I must must must have Tonga Toast on our next trip. It always looks so good.

Hi Marie! How awesome that Paige was selected to be a Jr. Chef! Do they get a little chef hat?? :) I would have been curious as to who all the suits were. We saw some big-wigs at the Carsland opening at Disney's California Adventure this summer but for some reason they didn't recognize me!! :rotfl2:

Great Tony's review!! I looooved that pistachio creme brulee too! It was my favorite dessert from my trip!!

Actually, the pistachio creme brulee used to be served at the dessert party but from the looks of your review it was switched to plain vanilla!

Hi Rachel! A fellow pistachio creme brulee lover. I'm not sharing next time - it's all mine!! Oh man, I sure wish they had the pistachio version of the creme brulee at the dessert party.... would have been better than the one they served for sure.

Glad to hear Tonys was a good experience. I really loved my meal there we had a couple of Saturday's ago and of course who doesn't love Lady and the Tramp.

I'm glad you had a good experience too Lori. I'm partial to Lady and the Tramp since it is my dad's favorite Disney movie.

THERE YOU ARE!!! See I'm not making this up - you do exist. Sorry, I'm old and apparently didn't get your user name!! Ha!!! That is so funny about your wife's comment since my hubby was wondering what the deal was since we had about 3 other random Dis-meets!!

And now I know how to spell your name correctly! :upsidedow

Thanks for dropping by!

I've really been looking forward to reading your Tony's review, Brenda. It seems like we always end up cancelling our lunch reservation there. I'm glad to see that you and the family really enjoyed eating there.

Hi Rachel! Tony's is to you as Tusker House is to me - I can't keep an ADR there for nothing! :rotfl2: And yes, Tony's was really good. You'll have to end up trying it sometime!

Brenda, back and caught up again (now if I could just get caught up on your TR).

Hi Kathy! I'm not even caught up on my TR!!!

So you are another Kona fan! Yay! Try the flatbread at Tony's if you want a tasty light lunch. I really was surprised at how well I liked it.

Now to make it over to your TR!

Brenda for whatever reason I feel like you are so brave and adventurous to go to Tony's! Both my DH and I pretty much abhor red sauce so I'm not sure we'll ever try it.

You better believe I'm going after that Tonga toast though.

Ha! I know what you mean about not particularly being fond of the main ingredient in most of the dishes so why bother eating there! No worries, go thing WDW has so many options.

But... yes, go for the Tonga Toast if you want a truly wonderful taste sensation!

Teppan Edo Dinner

DSC03902.jpg

We checked in for our 8pm ADR at Tokyo Dining and were given a pager for our 25 minute wait. The restaurant must have been a bit backed up this night since we had to wait longer than any other ADR. No worries, we went shopping at the Japan pavilion during our wait!!

DSC03906.jpg

This was our 3rd Teppan Edo dinner, the first for Michael. We have always been very fortunate that we have had chatty and fun teppan table mates. Tonight we were seated with a local couple and then a family that had a small boy. The family was rather quiet but the local couple were a ton of fun and we enjoyed the time dining “with” them.

We received the same gracious and courteous service at this teppanyaki side of the Mitsukoshi restaurant as Tokyo Dining. Yuka was our teppan chef and made the dining experience both entertaining and enjoyable.

The first order of business was to place our drink orders! I had a cocktail suggestion texted to me from none other than Jabead! The Tokyo Sunset was a must try so that was my choice. This was my first time sampling this cocktail so I am unsure if it is supposed to be so heavy on the peach flavor but it was and that was probably the only ingredient in this drink for which I wasn’t a huge fan. However, I drank the entire cocktail!

We skipped ordering appetizers choosing to focus on the food to be grilled center stage. Em ordered the steak and chicken combo (nihon bashi $28.95), Michael opted for the Kajiki Maguro which translated is the Swordfish Steak ($26.95), while I chose the shrimp and chicken combo (Ueno $26.95.) All entrees are served with a side of steamed rice and grilled veggies with udon noodles.

Our chef started by ladling out the various sauces in the little compartment trays. After dining here 4 times I still don’t know which is which but according to my observations, the white sauce is for fish/seafood and I don’t touch this one since it looks too much like mayo! The darker one on the right has prominent ginger taste with a bit of a tang and I LOVE this one – winner, winner!!! The third one on the left is the mustard sauce which is equally Ahmazing!! Next time, I am going to ask them to skip the white sauce and give me double of one of the other two!

Next up for our entertainment pleasure was a cute Minnie crafted out of cooking oil. It started as a happy face but morphed into Minnie complete with a bow on her head!

Not a Minnie yet:

Now do you see her?

The veggies were then dumped on the grill. No teppan experience would be complete without the smoking onion volcano! Ours was extra special since the first one crashed and burned! It completely toppled over when she was pouring the oil into the center. Our chef patiently rebuilt the volcano while still attending to the other food cooking on the grill. (She also dropped the pepper shaker on the floor during her flair demonstration but we pretended like nothing happened! :rolleyes1)

The veggies were off the grill first and were served with our bowls of rice.

Apparently I didn’t point the camera at Michael’s plate so I don’t have the finished result for the Swordfish Steak but the only comment that Michael made was that the fish was slightly overcooked. Not sure how Swordfish is supposed to be cooked or if Michael was in just in a sushi mood!!!

Here's the Swordfish on the grill (mid grill):
DSC03941.jpg

I absolutely adore this meal. I love the food, I love the entertainment, I love dining with other families, and I love the courteous gracious service. I know, I know, people argue that it is no better than a teppan style restaurant that you can get in any town, but it has become a tradition for us and I will continue to keep it in our dining line up! One observation that I need to throw out here because it could be my waning memory or it could be true but has anyone noticed if the portion sizes are smaller. To me, it seemed like everything has been downsized?? Please be kind if it is just my age showing!!!

We declined dessert since our bellies were so full! Next time I want to leave enough room for the green tea pudding. After reading Sushi Candy’s review here that featured this lovely dessert, it has me absolutely craving this creation. (Her photos are practically 4D they are so vivid and life-like.)

Tables in Wonderland is not accepted at Teppan Edo (while it is accepted at Tokyo Dining next door) so our bill without discount was $100.97. We parted ways after telling the couple that we were glad that they had a chance to see us! (What? It’s not all about us?)

Next Up: The Wave breakfast - will this be 3rd time's a charm or 3 strikes and you're out??

You have me extremely excited for our first visit to Teppan Edo in December. We go to a similar place in Naples with Nicki and love the food and entertainment. Thanks for the detailed and awesome review.

For you dear Kathy - anything!! :) It is one of our favorites. I think we are going to try a lunch there next time.

Glad to see Teppan Edo was satisfactory once again. I haven't been to a hibachi-style restaurant in years, so Teppan Edo might be the perfect place for me to experience it again. On a random note, the picture of Michael with a Hello Kitty backpack is awesome. :thumbsup2

Great TE review! I am hoping they let me sub out the mushrooms for broccoli instead.....fingers crossed for me lol!

We love Teppan Edo, but it didnt make our plans this trip - only because we had already spent a week on I-Drive before staying at Disney and were based at the Rosen Inn so went to Shogun Japanese twice during our week!

In answer to your earlier question - yes Paige was presented with a chef hat.

Oops, sorry about the peach schnapps. I guess not everyone enjoys that as much as I do. :lmao: I will therefore award you a bonus point for downing it anyway! :thumbsup2

I believe that brings your total to 23

I agree with DDW! The pic of Michael with the Hello Kitty backpack is priceless! When I was at Tokyo Dining, I peeked into the Teppan Edo rooms and everyone I saw was having a fabulous time! I definitely should try it the next time we visit. Thank you for the awesome review!

There should always be an extra emergency compartment in our bellies for dessert. XD Thank you for the sweet compliments, Brenda.

I am so kicking myself for not going here a few weeks ago. We chose San Angel in as I have always wanted to go and it was gross :rotfl2: TE looks so amazing and the noodles look great. Heck I might have to go down the street to my favorite Japanese steakhouse for lunch after reading your review!

Oops, sorry about the peach schnapps. I guess not everyone enjoys that as much as I do. :lmao:

Me, me, me, I do. I was just about to comment that the peach schnapps sounds like the best thing about that drink and the peachier, the better - peachy keen jellybean :thumbsup2

Great review of Teppan Edo. I would skip the veggies but the rest of it looks delicious. I am lookin gofr ideas of things which will be fun for our whole family to do on our big family trip on 2 years (nothing like forward planning) and Teppan Edo looks perfect :)

Michael looks so cute with the Hello Kitty backpack but not sure it was his colour ;)

So sorry about Michael's fish, though! Swordfish is a difficult fish to cook because if it overcooks for 30 seconds it's dry and tough. Hope he was pleased enough with the overall meal and experience to make up for it.

Have never tried Teppan Edo since DD is afraid of the smoking grills of the local hibachi places. :rolleyes2 Would really love to try it soon, since the food looks so yummy.

Wonder why they don't accept the TIW card?
