Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

Thanks! I'll check some out.

That's cool that you could change in some points for cards. I have mine going over to my SWA points, but I may have to change that...

You should try for Nike next year! Some of the hills are...I don't know, evil sounds a little to nice for them, but the rest of the course is nice. :p The worst is right around 5 or so when you go from the Presidio right up to the base of the bridge then down hill about .1 only to go back up hill some more. But the necklace makes it all worth it. I wasn't going to do it this year, but they opened it up and I am scheduled to do 12 on Sun so I figured might as well do the extra mile and get that pretty blue pouch! I looked at Cal Train and they have a baby bullet taking you up, but coming back they don't so by the time I got Muni back to the station and then home, it'd be almost 2 1/2 hrs and 11:15 at night. :crazy2:

It sounds like you have to drive :( I think I'm going to stick running for the "mouse". Also, I worked in the city for years--it's really hard to get me back into the city. Not even for a blue pouch :rotfl2: I have not even gone to the Disney Family Museum yet.

The weather looks good so far so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!! Good luck and keep me posted.

Good news...I had a kick-booty 3 miler last night....finally. I mean, it wasn't Olympic-worthy and certainly not the best 3 mile time I've ever had, but it's the best I've had in months, literally. I think it came at just the right time too...great way to start off my Tink training on a positive note, though I'm going to have to do some work to improve because it still wasn't at the pace I ran last year and I was pushing hard. Hopefully I'll get there!

Good job :cheer2:

Just wanted to share that fares on United went down today into LAX from Houston to a normal fare that I can stomach. :cheer2: They've been so crazy-out-of-hand lately!! I normally fly into SNA, but right now it's a huge difference in the fare for me, so I'm going to give LAX a go this time. Anyway, thought I'd share in case anyone else was waiting on the fares to move some....you might want to check for your route.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to check it out. Although I am in Clear Lake that Friday so to drive to IAH might not be worth it. Will have to see how much cheaper it is when I get home.

Right now I can go into LAX for $267 or SNA for $472...which is nutz! And right now it's saying the flight into LAX is scheduled on a "dreamliner 787"...that just sounds like fun, right? :lmao: I live in the Woodlands, so I'm much closer to IAH than HOU which is why I've always preferred United/Continental (I'm still not used to calling them United!) I hope you find a good fare...evidently SWA is having a sale that is valid if you are staying at least until Monday after the race, so hopefully that will work out for you! There still hasn't been any movement on fares to MCO for Princess though...still sitting at over $400. No thank you!

I have not even gone to the Disney Family Museum yet.

You guys have to go there! It's awesome. Plus, it's on the edge of the city, does that count? :goodvibes There's a ton of stuff there, went once a year ago, but you could easily spend a few hours there.

Booked my flights this morning! :cool1: This time I'm taking Friday off and flying in early (solo) to get the expo over with and BF will fly in late that night after work. Since we're leaving to come home monday on this trip, I wanted to make sure we had time to check out all the new stuff over at DCA...and maybe have a chance this time at some of the fast-moving merchandise at the expo...although I most likely still won't arrive in time for a Dooney. :rolleyes2 Maybe they won't go quite as fast this time since it's not inaugural. I guess we'll see. Maybe some of us can meet up on Friday for dinner! :flower3:

Good for you !!! Are you flying into SNA?
Last year I was at the expo in line to get in early and it was crazy. However....when I returned early in the afternoon to pick something else us the merchandise line was empty. But getting there on Friday you will have a better choice of merch. Who knows about the D & B's this year ??
You will LOVE what they have done with DCA. Finally, it's really a place to see now.

Great idea for getting a Tink group together for dinner. Count me in :)

I'm flying into LAX this time...made more sense logistically on this end this time and the price was right, so we'll see how that goes. I could've gotten the same price with the SWA sale into SNA, but no direct flights on the days I want to travel and the airport that flies SWA is really far from my house (but close to work). And honestly, I never have a good experience on SWA for whatever reason...big delays, lost baggage, etc...so I'm always a little hesitant with them. So I'm on United into LAX...they never did drop their fare into SNA for whatever reason...in the past they've usually followed suit when SWA dropped within a day or less...but they actually went UP instead...to $489. :faint: So, LAX it is! I'm scheduled to arrive at 9:15am, taking the Super Shuttle into Anaheim, leaving my bags at the hotel storage room because I'm sure my room won't be available that early and then heading straight to the expo. I may roam DL for a bit later that afternoon, but I promised I wouldn't go into DCA for a sneak peek until BF arrives...that's gonna be hard!! :rolleyes1

You should be at the expo by 12:00 and still get all the good stuff. ::yes::

That's is going to be so hard not to peek at DCA.

Count me in for that too!

I did that this year during the DL race. I wanted to wait until the 5k Sat. morning b/c that's where the finish was. So hard, but totally worth it. A tip though for going into Cars Land the 1st time though ~ go in the back way from Pacific Wharf where the food area is. You come in right where Radiator Springs is racing and all the rock work, it's so beautiful! It's a way bigger impact than down Rte. 66, although that's not bad either. And make sure you see it at night, so pretty.

thanks for the tips, I'll definitely have to remember that!

My wife and I just registered as volunteers. I won't run this race because it is a week after the WDW marathon and I might be a bit worn out. See ya real soon!

It was great weather! Thick fog and sometimes mist the entire way. Kinda felt bad for the out of towners, b/c you couldn't see Alcatraz or even the bridge. I heard 1 of the girls on the bus back talking about how she saw some girls stop to take a pic and it must have been the bridge. The entire thing was covered, you could only see a little on the base near the water. Necklace is pretty and so was the fireman who gave it to me. Now to recover for my big 14 this weekend.

Congrats !!! :thumbsup2

I'm sure you would love the firemen at the station up the hill from us. ::yes::

Hi Kim,

Definitely not the weather I was expecting, so it was a good thing I packed an extra sweatshirt. I'm not sure I paid any attention to the fireman. My focus was on the pretty blue box and getting to the finisher's boutique before they ran out of the good stuff.
:)

Well, my DW signed up for this for her first half marathon. At the time she sounded like she wanted to run it solo. But, more recently I found out she wasn't being honest about that so . . . I signed up via HSUBU (Reggo?) where you had to buy a park ticket too. I hope it is legit. It was on the RunDisney sight.

Anyway, it should be fun. I'm not going to tell her until the last minute. She wanted the two of us go go alone anyway (sans kids). I was going to get up with her at 0 dawn hundred anyway. I'll see how long I can keep it a secret.

The toughest part is I get to be an early coast to coaster as I will have just finished Goofy the weekend before.

What's your plan from Mon to Sat that week? I know it's still ways away, but I'm trying to figure it out so I have a plan. I'm in WDW until Wed morning, so I'll be walking Sun-Tues to get my legs going. Was toying w/ a 3 miler or so Tues morning and maybe 6(?) on Thurs morning. I'm bringing my foam roller and yoga mat down there so I can strect each morning/night pre/post park, but not really sure about running that week. Should I try to schedule a massage or would that be too close to Tink?

My thoughts on the massage part FWIW...I always get a massage on the thursday evening prior to a sunday morning race...but I make sure they know that I have a race in a few days and not to go too deep or too firm so I'm not really sore afterwards...I normally will get another ASAP when I get back home from the race/trip. Last year when I did the DL half, my BF set up in-room massages at our hotel for that same afternoon from an outside company in the area...the person I was with was a sports masseuse and it was glorious! It was part of a b-day gift, so I couldn't tell you how much something like that runs, but it felt amazing!
