January 2013 car rental

Just reserved dollar for 9 days in late Jan/early Feb 2013. Standard size for $322 with Dollar. This is much more than we wanted to pay. Hopefully prices will come down....

Late January/early February for me is $261 with Alamo for a standard for 10 days. Try using the Vroom promo and double upgrade coupon posted earlier in this thread. I have it now for $251. I'm hoping to get another $50 off. popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

Thank you wed100105!! We are now at $261 for our reservation!! I too would still like to see it come down some, but this is the best we've seen so far! :cool1:

I noticed with a google search, the Vroom Vroom Vroom Limited contract number is for a company in the UK. Is it okay for someone living in the US to use the code or will we be declined at the counter when they see our US address? The code also includes all the collision damage waiver and extended protection which is unusual....will one have problems should an accident happen and they realize one's not from the UK and has no relationship with Vroom Vroom Vroom?

FYI - I tried to use the Vroom Vroom code for a reservation with Alamo last week on 10/2 and was refused at the MCO counter. They said it was for European travelers or those with an International drivers license. (I'm from Michigan). I had called Alamo when I made the reservation to see if it was ok to use the code. The guy I spoke with didn't seem to know where the code came from, but assured me it should be ok to use. I had his name, date and time that I spoke with him but it made no difference at the counter.

Luckily I had made a second reservation using the Insiders code just to be safe, so I had a back up reservation. As a courtesy, they did give me the same rate on my Insider reservation as the Vroom Vrooom code which was about a $20 difference.

I finally found a "decent" deal with Dollar. 8 days, first week of January for 237 (taxes and fees included) for a standard.

In reference t o the Vroom Vroom code, Anyone can book on their website - U.S. included, so I do not understand why they would give anyone a hard time I have used it as well as many friends in the past & recently at various Alamo locs, in fact , with the kiosk - seems like the employee may have had a hair across something, I would have pulled up the site on my phone and asked "show me how I can't use this code for this deal". of course politely :)

Very true that you can book on Vroom site, but if you admit you are located in the US and not in UK, the price jumps up and inclusions change. Perhaps enough people have used the UK code on the Alamo site that they are now alert to the situation and are refusing the code for US renters.

Yes, bummer, o well - there will be more codes to find & use :) legitimately :)

Has anyone gotten any other good minivan rates other than using the Vroom Vroom code?

It doesn't matter to me whether it is Alamo, National, Budget or Dollar. Just wondering. So many codes expire before January.

I went through budget and used BCD X474200 for Feb 16-23 and got $310 for the wk for a mini van

I am itching to book a car, but gosh the rates are icky! Hopefully next month the coupons for january will be valid

I really don't understand what you mean by "admit you are located in the US". I signed into my Alamo account and applied the vroom code. They have my address, my drivers license number. Shouldn't they know I'm NOT from the UK? I went into this with no idea it was a UK code. No where does it tell me that. No where on my confirming paperwork does it say I have to be from the UK. I'm not a rule breaker and I don't see how this is breaking the rules. If someone can show me the fine print, I'd be more than happy to cancel my reservation.

If you go on the Vroom website which if you are using their code, you would be familiar with, right, because you are saying you are using a code you have a right to use....well, that's where you will see the "deals" change when you select the US versus the UK. It just doesn't get noticed on the Alamo site and that's how you are making your reservation. Alamo's software isn't catching it but they have the right to say no at the rental desk because that code was never meant for the US renter as you can tell at the Vroom website.

Using the code is definitely your choice. Since the code is not meant for US renters, I'm saying you are taking a risk in using it....whether it will be honored and whether you would have issues should an accident occur. I think the biggest concern for me would be if I had a car accident when using the code and Vroom does not honor the insurance "deal" that's included in the UK code because I'm from the US. I wouldn't have signed the insurance waiver that works with my credit card to protect me (because it wasn't needed with the insurance included in the rate), so now I'm totally on my own for the rental car damages and the down time for the vehicle. That's not something I'm willing to chance. I've never had an accident in Orlando, but that would be the ONE TIME someone would hit me. :crazy2:

Hello, Car rentals have went through the ROOF. I couldn't believe the price of them. I wanted to let everyone know that I went through Advantage car rental which is owned by Hertz corp and it is in MCO. For the dates 1/4 thru 1/13 I got a small suv with the code 1935677 which give you 5 percent off better then nothing. Anyway I was able to get it for 336.22 and that's all of there bull crap fees and everything that they like to charge for no reason other then ripping the consumer off once again. Anyway I hope this helps someone.

I still think its far to early to get a good rental car rate for January. Usually under a month (21 days) seems to be the magic number. I just booked my plane tickets two days ago and I think I might have bought those to early!

Enterprise just dropped rates for some of January. I booked a minivan Jan 6-13 for 201$ plus tax using the Westjet discount. Go to westjet.com and follow links to car rental deals.

Is this only for only people who live in Canada and also what is the code that you used. I went to the westjet.com and for a mini van it wasn't 201 it was 5 hundred something.
