Hi everyone!

I have been lurking around the boards for several months. I came across them one day while searching for pricing information on DFTWs. I never dreamed of posting, but it seems like a great place to put down my thoughts and get feedback about some of my wedding ideas. Of course, DF had to give me a nudge since I can be almost painfully shy. Anyway, let me introduce myself and DF.

My name is Sharli, my mom has always called me "charliegirl". I just turned 36 this past August. I work for Ernst & Young in the HR department, however, I just happened into the job. I actually went to school for Fashion Merchandising. I love fashion, even if I can't always afford what I like.

DF's name is Shane. He is 35, 6 months younger than me. He is a technician for AT&T. He likes sports, but mostly baseball. He grew up in California, so he's been to DisneyLand a million times but never to WDW.

About Us:

We live in Dallas, TX and met through friends three days after my birthday. DF likes to say I was delivered to his doorstep because I came to his place one night with a friend of a friend so we could all go out together (there were 4 of us). He must have changed his clothes 4 or 5 times before deciding what to wear. :lmao: We ended up hitting it off and started hanging out with each other. We officially became BF/GF in January of 2010, funny because I didn't even know we were officially dating. :lmao:

The Proposal

It was a pretty simple proposal, but DF completely surprised me! We had been talking about getting married for a long time. Actually, DF has been talking about marriage since shortly after we first met. Anyway, I'd been having a pretty bad week and he asked me if I wanted to go see Chicago: The Musical that Friday (August 17th, the weekend before my birthday). It's one of my favorites, so of course I said yes. We had dinner and went to see the show. When we got home I went in the bedroom to change my clothes. (I always do this. It's the first thing I do whenever I get home and know I won't be going anywhere else.) When I came out of the bedroom and back into the living room, DF was holding a dozen red roses. I said, "Aww, roses! Where'd those come from?!!" He told me he'd hidden them in the laundry room. I said thank you, told him they were beautiful and gave him a kiss. Then I started to read the card. As I was reading the card he got down on his knee and began telling me all these sweet things. I remember them vaguely, most of it is a blur. He pulled out the ring box and asked me if I would marry him. I said yes and he placed the ring on my finger. I do remember saying, "I can't believe you're proposing and I'm standing here in my pjs!!" :lmao: He kept asking me if I had any idea and I assured him I had none. That's pretty much it.

Pictures to come.

Welcome! Your proposal was so sweet! I'm glad you decided to post...you can get so many great ideas from these boards. Happy Planning!!

Thanks for the welcome!

Thank you, Alexsandra. :)

Normally, I would let pictures tell the story, but I can't upload photos to photobucket at work, so I will do that later after I get home. For now, here are some of the details we've already decided on....

We aren't having a theme, but our color palette was inspired by a cake we saw on a show featuring DFTWs....I want to say it was on the Food Network, but it could have been the Travel Channel. Anyway, there was a cake covered in white fondant and the cake artist was applying tiny, multi-colored Mickey heads and then drawing strings from them to make balloons. DF really liked this. He turned and said to me, "Wouldn't it be awesome to get married at Disney?!" I barely let him finish before I said, "Don't say it unless you really mean it! I thought about getting married at Disney World when I was younger, so you can't make that suggestion and then take it back." We laughed and he said he was serious. I was so excited. We weren't even engaged, but I started researching immediately. That was about two years ago.

After about six months I stopped all researching. There really wasn't any indication that he would be asking me to marry him any time soon, as a matter of fact, I was beginning to wonder if we'd ever be married at all.

A few months before we got engaged, he encouraged me to start looking into a Disney wedding again. One day while it was slow at work I started looking online. I decided to look at the Disney website where I found a picture of a table set for an event. It was multi-colored. I fell in love. I showed DF and he really liked it too. It really fits our personalities, everyone at work says it's definitely me.

Soooo......multi-color. Of course, I've called DFTW. Diane is our coordinator. I really like her, she seems to know her stuff.

Color: Multi (but not "rainbow", I don't have enough bridesmaids to do that. :rainbow:)
E-photos: Taken (I'll post some as soon as I get them back)
Ceremony Venue: Wedding Pavilion
Reception Venue: Grand Floridian Ballroom (Whitehall or St. Augustine, depending on the number of guests)
Invitations: Impressions (I've contacted them, picked a design, just waiting on a sample to make sure it's exactly what we want)
Photography: Randy Chapman (booked)
My dress: There is a Vera Wang dress that I have adored for almost two years now. Unfortunately, it is no longer on her website. I'm obsessed with her designs. I hope to find a Vera Wang to wear on the big day. I am open to other designers; I know, just because I love Vera doesn't mean her dresses will love me.....or even like me.
Rehearsal Dinner: Polynesian Luau (I've been to this show twice, I love it and we think it will be fun.)

I have asked two of my closest friends to be co-Maids of Honor. Here is what I have for them....

Maid of Honor Gifts: I am having custom hangers and hoodies made for my girls. I will also include a piece of jewelry and all of this will go into a memory box.
Maid of Honor Dresses: I picked out a couple of styles that I like. I'm waiting for the three of us to discuss the choices.

We're mostly just waiting to hear back from Diane to see if we get the venues on our requested date. I'm really hoping for it to work out. December 1st is a sentimental date for me, it's my grandparents wedding anniversary. They have both passed and I have always wanted to honor them in some way on my wedding day. Specifically, December 1, 2013 would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. I will have special flowers in my bouquet to represent them. We will also be honoring DF's grandparents that have passed, he hasn't quite decided how he would like to do it yet.

That's all I can think of right now. You can see why I like to use pictures....I tend to ramble on and on. :lmao:

welcome and congrats!!
all of your plans so far sound great and randy takes some great pics!
I know you said you had your eye on a vera wang gown - they also sell vera designs at davids bridal, which are phenomenal (i tried on a few of them myself lol)

Happy planning!
Can't wait to read more!

Thanks Shanamouse...I did see that David's Bridal has the White by Vera Wang collection. I will be going to try them on, definitely!

Here is a small inspiration board I created.

iboard_zpsb26cdb92.jpg

I want either a pink petticoat or pink shoes. I think both might be a bit much.

The Maid of Honor dress shown is only one of two that I've picked out. It's from the White by Vera Wang collection. I'm not sure if I'd like them to wear it in the grey or in black. They would be able to chose whatever color sash they would like, as long as it's not pink. Their shoes would either be either black or the same color as the sash. If my girls don't choose that one, I may use it for the rehearsal dinner. ;)

The cake would have multi-color Mickeys incorporated into the design and I think we'd use a different topper.

I love the table setting, but would change the center pieces. I'm thinking of using different solid color roses for each table with the multi-colored roses randomly.

I would like my bouquet to be white roses with multi-colored roses/solid color roses randomly placed.....possibly with some other types of flowers that are in season like jasmine, ranunculus, anemone, and perhaps bells of Ireland or wax flower thrown in because I don't like greenery or baby's breath. at. all. To be honest, I'm really having issues picturing the different flowers together, but know Disney would be able to come up with something. Right?!

The girls' bouquets would mimic mine, but instead of white roses, it would match the color sash they have.

Ok, I think that's all for now. :crazy2:

I love your inspiration board. I have never seen multicolor roses in a wedding before, that is so unique! The table decor on the inspiration board is so beautiful! Can't wait to see more!

Congrats on your engagement! Such a sweet proposal!

I love your inspiration board and the idea of having multi-colours. Mulitcoloured weddings are always so fun and make for such beautiful photos!

I'm really excited about having multiple colors. It truly makes me happy to look at all the color. And it really fits our personalities. :yay:

I've become more nervous about getting the date. It means so much to myself and my family.

We're using Randy Chapman. I knew immediately I had to have him taking my pictures. He said if we don't get the day we've requested, then he will be more than happy to change the date or time for us. He is really flexible and easy to work with.

Thank you!! And I only seem organized, I have a lot of information contained in a folder, but the only person that knows what's going on within the folder is me.

Congratulations and welcome! :goodvibes

I just found your PJ and LOVE your inspiration board!

Thank you! :)

Alright! We finally got our engagement photos back!!! There was a little bit of a mix up in the mail....my photographer wrote the wrong apartment number on the package, partly because my handwriting was bad that day. Oops! LOL

Anyway, this will be a picture heavy post.

I love these. I really want to do another session, more relaxed, but I'm not sure we could get it in before the Chihuly glass installations are taken out. Oh, well.

Oh! Just one more post....more pics, but this time of my Maids of Honor!

Me and Edna...an old picture, but it will work.

We will find out in just over a month if we got our date. We have been trying to figure out whether or not to change the ceremony time from 5pm to 2:30pm so we'll have more light after to take pictures. We are both against having a first look....I really like the build up of anticipation and excitement before we see each other for the ceremony. The problem is, we really love the evening reception...feels more like dinner and not a mid-afternoon meal. We're concerned that people may want to eat later in the evening. Any thoughts?

:wave2:

Well, I've been away for a bit. Work has been crazy, complete with drama involving a co-worker. Anyway, we're in the middle of our busy season and that will last for a few more weeks. But I'm trying to catch up a little and see what's going on with everyone while I have a moment.

In wedding related news, it's less than a month until we find out if we got our date and tme. I emailed Diane a couple of days ago and asked to switch my first choice time to 2:30pm and 5pm will now be our second choice. :yay:

That's about it. I look forward to catching up with everyone's PJs. :)
