Getting ready for our vacation.... What is best for packing as much as possible, and avoiding wrinkles?
Rolling clothes, or laying flat?
We leave Saturday, is I'm just getting to pack today.

I use packing folders and/or packing cubes. If using the folders, I use the guide that comes with them and fold flat. If using packing cubes, I roll tightly. Prior to using packing folders and packing cubes, I used zip lock bags or those vacumn bags and rolled. If I wasn't using anything, I would roll clothes. Make sure all buttons are buttoned and all zippers zipped before you start, as it makes packing clothes alot easier.

Not sure about the creasing aspect but you can definitley fit more in a case if you roll the clothes up. I watched a you tube recently where a woman fitted 2 weeks worth of clothes into a carry on suitcase by rolling the clothes.
Have a search and see what you think....

I always roll my clothes, more fit and they seem less wrinkly to me. I also picked up a travel size downy wrinkle releaser and that works great! I bring one on every cruise I go on!

I began packing yesterday, I rolled clothes and soooo much fit! I also rolled some stuff and then put in gallon size ziplock, pressed all the air out. I did that with swim suits, undergarments, and socks. I fit 8 pair of my daughters socks, swimsuit, and 8 pair of underwear all in one ziplock bag. I have 3 daughters, so this really proved to be very helpful!

This is exactly what I do, too.:thumbsup2 I love my packing folders and cubes!

I'm generally a roller but sometimes I fold some things. I've got the best down jacket that rolls up into its own little bag and I'm in love with it. It comes in handy on trips as a neck cushion, too.

I've always folded and laid flat, but after reading this thread I may have to try rolling! Questions- when you start a second layer, do you nestle the roll in between two items or do you place one directly on top of the other? Do you group like-items together- layer of pants, layer of t-shirts, etc? How do you "roll" underwear? :rotfl2:

I roll tight! For the layers, I stack one in each crevice of the lower layer - kinda like how you would build bricks :) As for undies,I lay those flat and they usually go in the outside pocket.

I lay like bricks as well. I put socks in shoes and use the rest of the socks to fill up any empty spaces. I use the rolls to cushion any fragile or breakable things, and I put most of the heavy things on the bottom layer and work my way up to the lighter things. At the bottom (if you were to stand up the suitcase) I put shoes and anything heavy so when the suitcase is standing up it doesn't fall and crush anything underneath. I have a zippered mesh thingy on the inside flap/lid of my suitcase and I put underwear, bras etc in there. And I always pack the first night's pyjamas and following day's outfits at the very top layer - no fumbling around at night for pjs if we get in late and the kids are tired. I keep plastic bags (or get the laundry bags from the hotel) and hang them on the bathroom door for dirty underwear and always keep any dirty underwear in a bag separate from the rest of the luggage in the mesh thingy part of the lid on the way home.

How do you roll underwear? I don't but I guess you'd just roll them like a sausage! I fold the bottom (crotch part) up to make a bit of a square or rectangle shape then fold each side in toward the middle like 3 columns - left over to right. Because I'm like that :) and I'm fussy.

I find that no matter how neatly I pack, my clothes are still wrinkled. And DH irons no matter what. So if you are that worried, either bring a travel iron or make sure your hotel room has one. Or you could always buy wrinkle free clothes ;)
