If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

Karin,
Loved your Italy report. Want to know which pictures from that trip I loved the most? Those of Austria!! I would so love to visit your country. It is such a beautiful country.
Cant wait to hear more. Loving this report so far. you probably would not like to know where I live...an hour from the original Krispy Kreme and 45 minutes from corporate headquarters.

Karin, when I read that Tom had to make a U turn, I couldn't help but to LOL:rotfl2: Such great memories & Joe & Kristy still bring up that conversation, from time to time! The WPE breakfast got to me & then you had to add the pix of the Krispy Kreme doughnuts...:thumbsup2 It's not always easy, reading your TR's,:lmao: but definitely looking forward to more:goodvibes

I dispise the Miami traffic, those people drive crazily!:crazy2:

Oh, I need to get some Krispy Kremes. We don't have a KK outlet around us, but a lot of the stores close to us sell them. We have a local bakery that has KKs beat as much as I hate to say it.

I don't know how I missed seeing your TR until now! I am having the time of my life reading all about the times of your lives :)

Thank you so much for sharing all of your adventures - I am jealous to say the least ;) I really enjoyed your trip from Austria to Italy - my son & his girlfriend are visiting Italy next summer to see her family and I was able to share your pics with my son to show him some of the scenery (altho I'm not certain where in Italy they will be). The mountains are so beautiful and the hillsides with castles are amazing. Can I say I'm jealous again? lol

I'm so glad you made it safely to Miami with all of the delays along the way. My daughter-in-law works for the Marriott hotels and I had the pleasure of staying at one on my last visit to see them - they definitely have lovely rooms.

Krispy Kremes...can't beat that, of course you had to get off the highway. A little pleasure after the trip you had and this makes the rest of the trip a little easier. :)

Thank you, Elaine, for being so understanding. ;) There are just a few things that we need to have every trip ...... KK being one of them. And you are right, after the drive we had had we both thought we deserved them. ;) :thumbsup2

All caught up Karin :goodvibes

Now that I have seen a WPE Breakfast, I know that your TR is well and truly underway :thumbsup2

Your experience with the hire car is exactly the same as ours, whenever we use Dollar they say "pick your own car" and there will only be one to "choose from" :upsidedow

Can't wait to read about your time in the Keys :)

Our trip hasn't officially started until we had had some of Wolfgang's grub! :rotfl2:
You know, we got so excited when the guy at the rental car desk said, pick any ........... and then there was just one. :rotfl2:
Needless to say, we DID pick it and were quite happy with it, but I am really hoping that ONE day we will be able to actually PICK a car. ;)

Our stay at the Keys started heavenly as we met the lovely Joh and her family that very first evening. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Special to me  The ONLY time we get those delicious morsels is on our vacations...I can eat 6 all by myself

Jeanette, I really hope you get some when you return to WDW soon. Please have one for me too. It'll be another 4 months until we will have some more of them ........ AND try some WPE breakfast! It is delish! :thumbsup2

For me it was the Krispy Kremes!!! :rotfl2:

Hm, :scratchin I think I need to stop writing those trip reports ...... I am giving too much away ........ I am getting too predictable! :rotfl2:

I knew it was Krispy Kreme!! Haha!

I AM too predictable! :rotfl2: :lmao:

:goodvibesKrispy Kremes and Picnic supper sounds heavenly:littleangel:

It was, Rosie! Despite the drive we had an awesome day!

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the Italy report! And you ARE right - Austria IS a beautiful country. You never really see it living here, but since I have begun taking pictures for my DISfriends I see it with "different" eyes. ;)
And I really hope that you will get the chance to visit Europe - there are lots of beautiful places.
And let me add that you are SO lucky to live so close to the original Krispy Kreme!

I had to go back and find out about the U-turn, Mary Ellen as I didn't remember what it related to. ;)
Yes, I do remember that day and we have some memories of our trips together that still crack us up too. Like the one when Joe tried to correct my pronounciation of Twinings tea. :rotfl2: Every time we walk into that shop I still start laughing remembering how he asked a CM how it was pronounced correctly and it was MY way. :lmao: :lmao:
Mary Ellen, like some of my friends here said before - NEVER read one of my TR on an empty stomach! :rotfl2:

I am so with you on the traffic in Miami issue. I am always happy when we are out of there again. :thumbsup2

Doris, the thing with KK for us is, that we love them HOT off the belt! I have never had one at WDW or on the ships, but to go there when the "Hot Now" sign is on and they take them off right after they ran through the icing - that's when they are BEST!! :cloud9:

No problem, you found it now! Welcome! :flower3:
I am only two days into our vacation, so there still is a lot to come! ;)

Your son is going to love Italy in the summer! It is beautiful and very different in the different areas.
And the mountains and hillsides WITH castles are actually in Austria (or close to it. ;)) Maybe you could convince your son and his girlfriend to make a side trip to Austria or Switzerland, which is beautiful too! :goodvibes

We really LOVED that hotel in Key Largo! We had stayed at Key Largo before and the hotel we had stayed in then was really nice, but that was more than 10 years ago. So, in the beginning I had booked that same hotel, but after reading some of the reviews, which stated that it needed renovations I went to shop around a bit more and found the Courtyard. It was really awesome and funnily enough right opposite the "other" hotel. :lmao:

Day 3, August 13

A Key West DISmeet - Part 1

Even though we had had a rather long day the day before we were up pretty early. We contemplated getting ready and heading to the hotel restaurant for breakfast, but there were a lot of yummy things left from grocery shopping and since we wanted to take as little as possible with us, we decided to just indulge in the leftover treats.
So, after having had a shower, we enjoyed some coffee on the balcony

and then had some hearty breakfast in the room. Around 9am we transported all our stuff down to the car

IMG_4706.jpg

and checked out of the hotel. We didn’t leave immediately but took a walk around the hotel and its grounds.

It was beautiful and funny to watch the diving lessons in the pool.

At around 10am we finally got in the car and after filling up the tank we started our drive towards Key West.

IMG_4716.jpg

I was on the lookout for Marker 88, a restaurant we wanted to try on the way back from Key West. We both love the drive over the many bridges to Key West

and stopped ever so often to walk down to the beach or to walk up onto one of the sidewalks along the bridges.

To be continued ............

The scenery on your drive to Key West is absolutely beautiful! I can certainly see why you two enjoy driving there so much.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the Italy report! And you ARE right - Austria IS a beautiful country. You never really see it living here, but since I have begun taking pictures for my DISfriends I see it with "different" eyes. ;)

Hi Karen,

I am really enjoying your report... thank you. The photos of Italy are lovely.

In your spare time :rotfl: (when you are not in Italy or jetting off to Paris) perhaps you can provide us with a tour of the wonderful Austrian konditorei for a Kaffee und Kuchen report.

Or a Tee and Kuchen report. :goodvibes

I am finally starting to get caught up. I was so far behind....I am only through page 13 now.....so still more to read.
I am glad you got through immigration so fast. I wonder about taking sleeping aids to. I wonder if it would relax me. I get jumpy o. 2 1/2 flights.
Italy looks beautiful. I love the scenic route.

Gay for dlp!!!!!!. I have to admit I was hoping it would be to Orlando though.

Yum, breakfast at WPE looks yummy as usual. Do they open at 9? For some reason I thought it was later.

It must be pretty cool to get recognized from the boards at Disney. I always keep my eyes open for Disers I know are traveling at the same time, but so far haven't seen any.

The traffic and rain in Miami sound horrible. Sometimes I think I would travel to Miami since they have DCL there but I have heard nothing good about the airport, port and now the traffic.

How nice that you got to pick your car from the one available:lmao: It looks like you picked a good one though:thumbsup2

I've got to go to Key West, I've been on the causeway before, but not as far as Key West. I used to live in Miami when I was very small. My mother went to high school there & my grandmother lived there. Our oldest son is going to Key West again in Nov.

I don't get the KKs unless they are hot either. I get mine in Pigeon Forge,Tn. when going to Gatlinburg. I may get back there in a few weeks, but now have some health issue that has caused doctors some concern, but I'm not worried.

What fun seeing some other Disers. I tried to see if some Disers about, but had no luck.

Hi Karin! All caught up again!

I am enjoying the pictures of the ride to Key West. And I am really looking forward to your hearing about your visit to the keys. I lived in Miami for almost a year and never got down to the Keys. :scared1:

I also just love the way you two vacation - you really know how to take a calm approach, stopping when you see something interesting, not rushing through everything. I need to take lessons from you - whether it's real life or vacation, I have such a hard time not rushing around like there is some kind of emergency. :(

Your hotel in Key largo looks really nice.

Yeah for being on the way to Key West. I have never been there, but its on my bucket list. :thumbsup2

I have to say I am a little grosser out by the fish and shrimp. I don't think I could eat something staring back at me. But the harbor pictures are really neat. I love all your purchases too.
