Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

Your tags will work just fine...DME doesn't really need flight info when you are arriving. They do, however, have to have flight info for your return trip to MCO...your flight time determines your resort pickup time. So, be sure to give Disney that info, either when you arrive at the DME checkin area at MCO, upon arrival, or at your resort.

Thank you so much for the quick response! I will set up DME for the return trip while I'm at my resort.

can you reserve dme for only some of your party? We are renting a car but buying carseats once we are in orlando. we will need DME to get the kids to the resort since the car is most likely being rented from the airport. Will they accept reservations for only 5 out of 7 people? Or do you have to book everyone? what happens if we book everyone and the whole gang doesnt show up to check in for dme?

We live in Singapore and this is the second time that we are going to WDw and using DME. In 2007, Disney sent us the DME tags which we tag onto our bags after clearing custom and immigration upon entering the US and before we send our bags on our final domestic leg of our flight to Orlando.

Today when I called DME to send me 2 instead of 1 tag per pax when they send me my travel package, I was told that they no longer send the DME tags to International travelers. Instead we are suppose to hand our luggage tags to the DME counter at MCO when we arrive so that they can retrieve our bags for us.

May I know if anyone has done this? Have you encountered any problems? Is this a recent change? Any special reason for this?

I just realized that Disney might only send one luggage tag per person. I paid for our trip last week. Is it too late to request additional tags?

Thanks!

They will only send one luggage tag per person. You don't say when your trip is, but if it's at least ten days out, you have time to contact DME to get more tags sent. However, even if you're less than ten days out, you're not out of luck. You can use the tags you have, and when you get to the DME counter at the airport, you can give them the claim checks from your other pieces of luggage, give them a description, and they can grab those bags as well.

Thank you for such a quick response! Our trip is 11/11 and this is my first time staying on property. So ME is all new to me!

I appreciate the help!

Just book it for everyone and forget about it. That way, they will send tags for everyone, and everyone can tag their bags. If some end up on the bus, while others go to rent a car, no problem.

I'm sorry of this has been answered, probably has after 105 pages..wow what a thread! Did a search, too, but let me just ask..

We are lucky enough to be coming back to DW in Jan (Yeay!!), and gave the nice CM our flight info for ME when we booked months back. Today I was notified that our RETURN flight was changed, both flight number and time (hours earlier), but our incoming flight is basically unchanged ( flight # same, few minutes later arrival).

I'm unconcerned about our incoming flight, but, for the life of me, I can't even remember if the CM asked about our return flight...
Maybe they did, not sure that they would have, but I can't remember! but we are certainly planning on taking ME on the way back to MCO, too..

Should I call and tell them about the return flight change? I hate to bother, and hate to bother them if it's not even part of the picture.

Anyway. because of my fading memory, I don't want to forget to say thanks in advance for any thoughts, and also to say I'm sure glad to have this wonderful board to rely on for help.

Yes, you definitely need to have DME know your return flight info because it determines your pickup time at your resort. The return flight is actually more important than inbound because of the pickup scheduling. Incoming you just go to the DME area at get into the queue; when you arrive doesn't matter as much.

Got it. Makes sense, jcarwash, and thanks for your reply

I'll let them know right away. Still plenty of time but at least they'll have the correct information if they decide to mail the ME tags early.

Question!
I booked through Liberty Travel around September 21st for a trip from Oct. 29th-Nov.4th. We booked the Magical Express (we have the vouchers the TA gave us). When we picked up the vouchers for ME, the hotel room, and the park tickets, I asked about the tags. She said they would mailed to me. When can I expect them? I did read that if I happen to not get them, its fairly easy to get them transferred to my hotel but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thank you!

It would seem that Disney is doing things differently on occasion...some people get their DME packet at the same time they get their pkg packet. Most of the time, the DME packet, with luggage tags, is sent out separately....about a month prior to travel. Since you booked through a travel agent, the luggage tags will most likely be sent to them, then they will have to get the tags to you.

Thank you for the reply! I'll wait until Friday. If I don't get them by then I'll call both my travel agent and DME. Its my first time using DME and only my 2nd visit to Disney. The last time I went Hollywood Studios was MGM and there was no Animal Kingdom. I can't wait to visit again. this board is awesome because its given me boatloads of information.

Talk to your travel agent first. You may have an issue talking to DME. You don't 'own' your reservation...your travel agent does. You may not be able to discuss any part of your trip with Disney or DME. Only the travel agent can talk to them. So, check with the agent first. If you don't get the answers you want, then try calling DME. You may have some luck...but I wanted you to know what the situation 'could be'.

Noted, thank you for the information! Hopefully, the travel agency won't give me some kind of run around.

hoping someone knows the answer to this one...

we are arriving orlando airport in the late evening february 5, and plan to stay overnight at an airport hotel with just overnight bags, then take DME to WDW the following morning

will DME retrieve the checked luggage and bring to WDW and hold overnight? or must we lug the luggage back and forth from the airport and the airport hotel?

Not an answer on what they will or won't do, but rather, an opinion...take your luggage with you to you airport hotel.

I have heard reports that if you stay at the hotel that is within the airport, the Hyatt I believe, you can hand them your luggage that morning and they will get it to DME. BUT....I am not 100% sure about that.
If you tag your bags, and arrive after 10pm, your bags will go to the public baggage claim area, and then taken off the carousel much later...the bags will go around and around, out in the open. They are now out there for anyone to see, and take. If the bags are still there later? Someone will come and get them and put them in an office area, then first thing in the morning, DME workers will come and collect them.
So..take your chances. I would just leave the bags untagged, get them myself, and then take them to the hotel. See if the hotel will get them to DME. Otherwise, you will need to take them with you, on the DME bus, to your resort.

thanks again to goofy4tink for the info! Called Liberty today and the person I spoke with said they should have arrived by now so she was going to call DME and have the tags sent to me. I have 19 days so they should get here in plenty of time :thumbsup2

I won't be getting any luggage tags since I live outside US/Canada but I do have a question. My flight makes a layover in Atlanta, where I'll be going through customs. Is my connection flight to Orlando considered a local flight which will make me eligible for DME to collect my bags from baggage claim and delivering them to my resort? I'll be flying Delta.
