August Flights cheap

Wayne, don't know if you'll know this but as we are going via Newark and have 9 hours to kill and will probably get a hotel do we have to keep our luggage or can we give it back to the United Agents once we have collected it on arrival in Newark. Flight arrives at 9pm and the next one to Orlando departs 6:30am the next day.

Also we are flying Lufthansa operated by United Heathrow to Newark so do we check in with Lufthansa or United? Thanks

Not something I have ever done but I would think if you told them at checkin they will either check your bags thru to Orlando or just to Newark, your choice. Hopefully someone will post that knows for sure.

I've just gone on to book on united.com either 12th,13th or 14th Aug til the 31st Aug and the prices In £s are showing at £620 Isherwood when they were £200 each cheaper last night, thats just my luck!

I changed the price to $ and it's $727 each in dollars so virtually last nights price but am I allowed to book in $ s if I am using an English £ credit card with a Uk billing address?

Last time I tried I entered all my details it then went to payment page and changed the price back to £UK and the higher price.
Have you looked on Orbitz.com, they quote in $'s and we can book on there no problems.

Thanks I will try now I've just found one on the Sunday 11th until Thursday 29th Aug at £466 on Expedia but the stopover was i15 hours in Washington, Im worried I've missed a good deal now!

I've found some on Expedia im happy with on the 12th Aug to 1st Sept changing planes in OHouston but the stop over is only 1h 25 mins each way. If we miss our connection is that our fault or will be just be put on the next flight?

I'm new to indirect! Thanks for the help!

For the inexperienced I always say 2+ hours outbound (1+ hours return)
The flight you have seen I believe is the 18:50 to MCO from Houston. If you didn't make it they would have to get you on the next available flight, only problem is I have checked United's site and it looks like the last flight of the day so you would be there overnight if you missed the connection.

2 downsides, one the last flight of the day and two Houston is about 3 hours inland so you are going a long way into the US to come back out, far better if you can get any of the hubs on the East coast, NYC, Philly, Washington, etc.

This is the flight we've booked on our way out. We just have to hope for no delays on the way out. We're connecting in Washington on the way back and have a 3 our stop over.

You are correct Wayne it is the 18:50 from Houston, I didnt realise that it was the last flight of the day and I was so worried about missinga good price I have gone ahead and booked it!

Now I'm worried!! If the flight is late landing or we get delayed in the airport and we miss our connection do we just have to find ourselves a hotel for the night. Do we have to pay extra to go on the next flight?

I'm a born worrier so this probably wasn't the best option for me in hindsight!

Thanks for all your help!

Do not worry about it, they will take care of you. They only allow bookings that they believe they can fulfil. Even if you have a delay they can catch up the time or if enough of you on the transatlantic route are then transferring to the MCO route they could possibly hold your 2nd leg. Whatever happens there will be no cost to you, its all their responsibilty to get you to MCO ASAP. Chances are it will all go really easy and no problems.:goodvibes

Thanks, that's good to know! I will be in America and if I'm delayed at least I'm still in America and well on mh way to Disney World!

I now have my flights for August 2013, so I guess I should go back to thinking about my trip this Saturday!! : 0 )

Our flight was delayed from MCO to Philly last time and I was really worried. I spoke to a guy from US Airways and he said that there's no way they'd let that flight go without us as 1/2 of the plane were transferring onto it.

The first flight out the next morning is 7:25 am - you'd still be in MCO by 10am and without having to go through immigration you won't waste too much of the day.

That is exactly the way to look at it, even worse case and you are on the above flight at 7:30am you will be on your way to Florida and saved a small fortune over direct flights but I would be confident of making your scheduled flight.

I keep thinking about next Easter & next August but we have nothing planned for our trip in 23 days time. I have just been looking at the dessert party, something I wouldn't consider while on the DDP but this trip is offsite so considering, need to decide quick though as there is only 1 slot available.

I have exactly the same stopover time both ways. I know it's not ideal but it was cheap and I needed cheap with us going on Saturday too!

This trip was only really scheduled as we took advantage of the DVC annual pass discount and are squeezing in a trip within the year.

We will probably drive down to London from Liverpool and book a hotel with parking included to stay the night before. We will enjoy the drive down and make the most of our little road trip adventure but I expectthe journey home will be a lot less fun!!

I've never done the dessert party but it does look really nice, I'm afraid I would over indulge far too much and be sick!! I'm not sure I can even trust myself with the Golden Corral desserts! X

Are you landing back in Heathrow on the 1st? If you are we'll be on the same plane - I'll let you know be what row we're in if you are so you can pick one far away (I can't imagine our youngest who will have just turned 3 will be much fun to sit near :crazy2:)

I always said I would never pay $25pp for dessert but I am just looking for different things we haven't done before.
I just found out there is soft opening in Fantasyland for AP holders while we are there so I am going to try register for that when it opens up.

Just had a look for your parking at Heathrow. Double check but you should be able to get free parking at Reeds Service Park worth £86.95 (Monarch) its cheaper with Park & Go at £83.95 Details in my free parking thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2995085
Although thats driving down morning of flight. Not sure if you can get it to work driving down night before, no problem getting the free parking its getting from the parking to your hotel. Maybe something to look at.

Hi All
Spotted cheap flights on Hotukdeals and Asters (wayneg?) pointed me over here.....

So I have some flights on hold with United - 25Jul-10Aug...for 440 per person which seems an absolute bargain...I always said I would pay extra and go direct - but this is half the price....

So should I confirm the flights is the big question....I have kids 5 & 7 and i am sure they would love visiting Orlando....however, I didnt realise how big a gamble the weather can be at this time of year....what do you guys think?

As the above poster I am also held on the 18:50 from Huston as this makes the overall travel time pretty good ....I am a regaulr traveler but 1hr 25mins felt a little tight to me with the kids...so will just have to move fast! Didnt want to hand aroun 4-5 hrs in an airport with the kids.

When we last went in August it was when TS Faye was passing over. That was a particularly bad storm with constant rain for 4 days. It was supposed to pass over relatively quickly but once it hit land it just sat there but...... it did not stop us from having a great time. Yes, we had to re-work our plans a bit - we hung around the hotel taking part in activities there and rescheduled some dining reservations so we didn't have to leave.

We also took the opportunity to go to the malls which we wanted to do anyway but it meant we weren't dragging ourselves away from theme parks to do it.

We've not been there in a hurricane but I think we'd go for a similar strategy and try to make the most of resort activities.

It does tend to rain around 3pm every afternoon for about 20 mins but it soon clears up.

I'm reading this back and it sounds awful but it can't be that bad if we are going back the same time next year.

Welcome, yes it was me that linked to here. I never know if I should put links over there but they don't remove them so I guess its OK.:goodvibes

Look at the list in my signature you will see how many times we have been in summer, yes you can get some rain, some torrential but some trips we haven't seen a drop the whole time. You just don't know what you will get til you get there. Its not something that would stop me going in the summer.

Flight times I can only say see above, you know the risks, they will get you there but any delay it could be the next morning, at £440pp in summer I personally would take the risk, you are probably saving about £400-500pp on direct.

What do I think? get it booked and enjoy. :thumbsup2

Hope you stick around and ask many questions, lots of us enjoy helping plan trips.

No we're landing back in Heathrow on Monday 2nd we wanted the 1st but the price had increased and leaving on the 1st and landing on the 2nd was still cheap!
