Shares - is it worth buying the extra 80?

The possibility has arisen to buy the extra shares I need to stay in the Shareholders Club in the future. As far as I can see, I don't need to do this right now as I have about 18 months left to run under current membership. Also, the shares are still quite high in price so worth holding off the purchase for now.

But question is, will it be worth it in 18 months time? :confused3. Anyone have a crystal ball :confused3.

I'm guessing if they get more 'serious' investors involved it could go one of two ways;

1) Shareholders perks may become more limited but perhaps more beneficial/exclusive

2) Shareholders perks may decrease as investors become more business orientated - some may not even visit the park but see it purely as a business venture (can only see this happening if the shares increase in price and begin to pay a dividend though) :crazy2:

3) The rules for membership may continue to climb and climb - moveable goalposts?

Anyone considering buying the extra shares too?

I guess you'd have to visit a fair amount to make it worthwhile if you were looking at it from the point of view of discounts/perks..... But if they look like they may become a better business investment or the perks become more exclusive, then that is a different matter. For us, I need to also consider what if we decide we aren't going to visit again after November for a long while, then I guess I have my answer....

Interested to hear other people's views on where they think the SH club will go, how the membership will go (if at all?).

ETA - We have decided to keep our 20 shares even if we don't increase our shareholding for nostalgia/our children owning a speck of dust in the park!

I won't be renewing or increasing my shares.

Yes, I love the thought that I own a teeny tiny piece of DLP (ie one of the winking Egyptian girl dolls eyelashes on IASW :rotfl:).

However, purely from a value point of view, as my DD will be 12 from next year and the most cost effective way for us to stay at DLP (either onsite or offsite) will be with at least one AP in our party, I see absolutely no point in having shareholders club discount as well, when those shares would maybe cost in the region of 500 euros to buy and keep. An AP will make its money back in one trip, shares won't anymore.

oh, if only we knew!!

if uve got the money, and shares r still higher than u like, maybe put the money sumwhere to earn a bit of interest.... lol

i wud assume, that once the 2 yrs have passed, then they will change the terms, so that its only in effect to new shareholders?

i dont think i will buy more, but doubt ill sell mine either, same as u - like bit of disney that we own (we really must decide what bit it is... link on the dragons chain might be a nice bit lol)

b waitin to hear what others think :thumbsup2

I certainly won't be renewing. The benefits are nice, but they don't make up for the cost of 80 more shares, not for once a year visitors like ourselves.

I think more than the discounts, I'll just miss knowing I own a very very tiny part of my favourite place on Earth. At least I have my paving tile in front of the entrance, for now.

I'm placated with the knowledge that this should all mean improvements and eventual developments in Disneyland Paris, so onwards and upwards. I will miss Salon Mickey though...

Yes! Well I don't know about financially but for me I am glad to know that for the time being I can continue to feel part of the fabric of the park. :)

I won't be buying the extra, I renewed in september so got 2 years left. we have a family trip booked in March, then I doubt we'll have another for a couple of years, I shall be getting AP's just for me and Liam next visit, happy to use those for discounts instead.

I wrote this on another thread here at the forum:

After the first shocking moments I thought about if it´s really worth it.

Of course I like the park and Disney and I am proud to own a very little piece of this great company.

I was and I am very proud to enter Salon Mickey and yes I feel a little bit like a VIP at that moment.

But personally I have to buy 75 more shares right now. That would mean 401,25 Euro.

What will I get ?

15 % on Day Tickets .... I have an AP
15 % on AP .... ok
10 % on Package .... hmmm I just booked with 40%
25% on Room Only .... see above

15% at restaurants .... 10% with AP ... not that much difference
15% at boutiques ..... 20% with Dream
20% at Buffalo Bill .... the Billet Malin is cheaper
20% at guided tours ..... ok but it is not a great lost for me.

After all I really see only the 15% for AP and Salon Mickey as a good point.

If you go for advantages.....shareholder is no good any more.

If you go for being a part of history ..... go for it.

I don´t know what to do but 400,- is a lot of money. Its a trip to DLP for us.

With this Disney will try to convince each one of us to sell your shares because it will be too expensive to be shareholder again. And then they will do the buyout.

My opinion !

I have 19 months before I have to renew so i'm debating on what to do. I'm waiting to see if WDW company are going to buy into the parks, if they do then they would require buying up shares and then launching them as something different.

It is all up in the air at the moment so i'm waiting to see what happens and keeping an eye on the prices, if they drop then i'm prepared to buy some more but won't at there current price.

Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote this - I'll still have my shares, I'll just not be a member of the shareholder's club. Must not have woken up yet!

I have 18 months membership left and I won't be renewing as I can't justify the cost.

Luckily I bought my shares when they were quite low at the end of last year, so I might make a nice little profit when I come to sell.

Thank you so much for your replies :thumbsup2.

Nikki (scampbunny) - you are right, I will keep the money but tbh these days that kind of money isn't going to get you any interest - not worth having anyway!!

Nikki (tennisfan) - I guess I am like you - wait and see and if it becomes favourable buy them. For me, it's also about how often we will visit. A lot depends on our next visit for that. Plus we have APs until next June so it's crazy to do anything right now.

It is a lot to invest, particularly if there aren't any decent perks OR a reasonable dividend. In fact in that case, I can't see why you would invest but in fact as TheBa says perhaps it is a way to make people willing to sell.

I won't be selling mine unless forced to (which could happen) :scratchin.

I'm not sure what we're going to do. If it was down to me I'd sell but DH doesn't want to. He wants to transfer his to me (which is free) so then I'd need to only buy 50. No way am I paying the price at the moment but if it goes down a lot lower then I'll consider it.

It's my eldest DD I feel sorry for as her shares were part of her 18th birthday present so she's not really going to want to sell them but as DH says she's got the rest of her life to buy more if she wants to ..... until they move the goalposts again. ;)

Bless her - I remember you getting them for her. The thing is, if she keeps them then if they do finally start paying a dividend, then she will get something from them (other than knowing she owns a speck in the park which is always a nice feeling :thumbsup2).

So, do you think that they will move the Club goalposts again then? I have a horrible feeling that they will. It appears to me that they want people to sell so that they can buy them back... :confused3

totally agree with u - it does feel like they want all the lil ppl to sell up - maybe we shud all keep them (altho sounds like most of us will do anyhow!)

i think for sure they will change the benefits as the membership level starts to drop.... i havent checked the site yet - r the new terms up on it now?? (or did sum1 already post it??)

and elaine - i think its said for ur dd, and prob others out that that had them for a gift.... its so hard to know whats best, but either way, havin the shares means we all own a lil bit of dlp...
