I am wondering how much the showers cost at Fort Wilderness and is the water actually hot?

Showers are no extra charge and the water is hot

WELCOME to the boards. When will you be at the fort?

Welcome SeilerBird !

They are hot and the showers are super clean. :thumbsup2

Thank you AuntBJ. I am currently planning on a ten day visit the first two weeks of February. I have been to Disneyland many times but never to DW. I am really anxious.

No, there is no cost at all for the showers.

Although for what we pay for the sites, it's a good thing they are free! :rotfl2:

I wonder why anyone would say they had to pay for showers? That seems crazy to me! FW definitely has free showers!

I recently went to Alaska for a few weeks (to the miltiary base) but the folks working with me there explained some of the local businesses. There are dry cabins in Alaska (no running water) so every so often the dry cabin residents come out of the mountain areas and go to the laundry mat to do their laundry and take their showers. You do pay to use the showers there. So maybe it is not so far fetch of an idea.

Vermont state parks have pay showers, and I remember paying somewhere else as well...maybe at a SP in IN, PA? Oh, I believe they have pay showers at a SP we go to in NY. Anyway, they're not totally unheard of, but Disney definitely has free and hot showers at the Fort :thumbsup2

I live in my RV full time and I have been to many RV parks. Most have free showers. Some charge between a quarter and a few dollars for a shower and some don't have showers at all.

When my wife and kids did our first camping trip as a family (been camping all my life mostly in a tent) we stayed at a private campground and yes had to feed quarters into a slot to keep the water running.

Needless to say we now only stay in PA state parks that have free showers and I have never had issues with the amount of hot water. Also much better sites and cheaper.

DH and I used to go to Nascar races regularly. The tracks would bring in portable showers for the campers, and you had to pay to shower.

Campground in Cape May, NJ charges for their shower. It does seem that in this day and age, a shower should be free.

Very excited for you to go to Ft Wilderness for the first time. I bet you will love it!

Oh no - I know some places do. Just not sure where the idea that FW charged came from. We almost always stay at NY state parks so haven't run into it but I have heard of it. But FW definitely does not.

Mather Campground on the south rim of the Grand Canyon charges $1.75 for a six minute shower. $3.50 at Jackson Lake Campground in the Tetons.

Never camped out west, mostly south east, so maybe that's why we've never run into that situation. We have a MH so wouldn't use the cc showers anyway, but would know of the charges if they were relevant.

While the showers and restrooms are free, between the mens and womens comfort stations, there is a laundry which costs $2.00 for a washer and another $2.00 for a dryer. On the outside there is an ice dispenser that also costs $2.00 per bag. Have your quarters ready. Oh, and there is a change dispenser in the laundry.
