Does anyone know the closest nicest beach near Disneyworld

We've been to Coco Beach and liked it. We just did the beach and went to the big Ron Johns store so I can't speak to any other entertainment or shopping options there. It was just a way to relax for two days before hitting the world.

We were in Cocoa Beach on Tuesday, stayed at the Courtyard Marriott using my free night voucher. The beach was beautiful and very quiet. On Wednesday morning we left at 8:30 and pulled into Pop at 9:40. We went to Kennedy Space Center before checking into the Marriott, but we had free passes, I don't know if it's really worth the $50+ admission price though.

Cocoa is a nice beach. We have been doing Daytona since it is on our way and we stop there for the night.

We like Cocoa Beach too. Ron Jon's is a must stop shop for my DH whenever we go. Plus, it's an easy 1 hour drive from WDW.

I almost died at Cocoa Beach in 1998, so I'm not a fan. Actually, I have no interest in east coast beaches. I live in California, where we have some very nice beaches. But I'm most partial towards Hawaii's beaches. We're going back for our 9th time in 2 weeks, and plan to move there next year.

Besides, why would anybody want to leave Disney World except to go home?

Well I may not be an "expert" but I do happen to know of a wonderful beach that is some what of a secret to some people...treasure island...it is amazing and it is also not far away from Disney. It is closer to Tampa and sunset beach. Really nice and private. The water is amazing and the sand is white as snow...big difference is because it is on the gulf side. Google it and check it out...gives you another option!

It might busier but we always go to Daytona Beach, the sand/beach is pretty clean however the toilets aren't. I've not been to Cocoa Beach in years, could you get a wheelchair on,the beach? I remember having to walk over a grassy sand dune.

The west coast is FAR nicer than anything on the east coast. Siesta Key is worth the drive.

Another one for Siesta Key! My family has a house there. It is a beautiful white beach, with clear blue warm waters.

But, it is probably further than you want to go. I haven't been to any other gulf beaches, and in Florida nothing north of Ft Lauderdale.

I completely agree!!! We think the Gulf side is far better than the Atlantic side. We head over to Clearwater/Treasure Island almost every trip. In fact, it is where I plan on retiring to!!!

My DD and family went to Clearwater last year and the water was full of some type of grass stuff. So much so they didn't enjoy it at all. Does this happen certain times of year?

We went to Madeira Beach in May, it's between St Pete and Clearwater, right across the bridge from Tampa so only a little over an hour from Disney and we loved it. We have always gone to Destin but we really loved Madeira this year. It is near St Johns Pass which is a nice place with stores and restaurants, things to do with kids. Great area.

Merritt Island National Seashore, just north of Cape Canaveral. Very rustic, but very wide and right on the ocean.

The problem with the Gulf side is that it's like swimming in a warm bathtub. (and, if you consider all the large metro areas dumping waste water to your north and west, it's actually a pretty apt analogy...)

Because there is A LOT more fun in Central Florida than just Disney!!! Sure WDW is a focal point of our fun but we are glad that we open our schedule up to enjoying far more of the area than just WDW can offer.

In truth we like relaxing around our own private pool at WH, cooking up a good BBQ and just relaxing with the family. Can't really do that onsite. DD and I even enjoyed going to Super Target shopping around and chatting, stopping at Subway and bringing everyone back dinner. Having lots to do doesn't mean being immersed in Disney 24/7. Sometimes it's the little things that help make memories.
