Official 2012/2013 Disney Military Promotion - Updated Post #187

i've heard conflicting information and i need help!

we already have a WL reservation for 9 days in february for 6 people (including my mil husband). I've been trying to figure out the best plan to save money .. whether it's to wait to see if free dining is offered (and not use mil discounts) or to get the 40% off the room with the mil discount (and just pay for dining). the big deciding factor, for me, is if we can use the 4-day mil park tickets for our whole stay.

everything i've read online says that with the mil tickets, you can purchase 1 4-day ticket per person per year, but when i talked to a CM on the phone, he said that you can buy that twice a year and just do it back-to-back, giving us 8 days each of tickets to use for our one vacation.

is this true or was he mistaken? i would hate to get down there and have them say we need so many days between uses ... or have them say we can only use the 1st 4-day tickets and not the 2nd.

i hope someone can clear this up.

From what you have told us, I would think that the Military room discount might be the best option as far as room discount, it always is for us, but I don't know how many Disney adults you have. You are required to purchase a minimum of 2 day base tickets for each person in the group 3 and up.

This year, there are only 6 tickets available for the entire promotion 1 Oct 2012 thru 30/Spet 2013, and they can't be used back to back, there is a 7 day waiting period after you use the 4 days before you can activate a second one.

You might check the ticket price list on Shades of Greens website, there may be a better option.

If you have six people in your party, wouldn't you use up all of your tickets available for purchase during this promotion anyway? I thought I read we could only purchase a total of six tickets max during this current promotion. Is this not the case? And if it is, then using 2 4-day tickets for each person wouldn't even be possible.

Yes, that is correct, you are only allowed six tickets this time.

I've searched the thread and don't see this specific question. We currently have a ressie for jan with the 40% mil room discount. we added a dining plan to the ressie and paid the $200 deposit for a package w/ final payment 45 days out. On our trip last week, we bought APs & TIW. the TIW is better for us, and so we are going to take the dining off the January ressie. I think they will make us re-book the room only military. My question is: if the ressie is room only using the mil discount, do we have to pay the entire amount at the time of booking? Thx

No. You pay the first night as a deposit & the rest when you arrive. At least that us how it has worked for us in the past.

Has anyone else had problems getting the tickets from their ITT office? I went in a few weeks ago and was told that they couldn't order them before 01Oct. So I called again this week and was told that there is a "shortage" and there wasn't a guarantee that they'd get here by next Friday, so now when we arrive next Thursday, I'm dropping the wife and kid at the resort and booging over to SOG to buy our tickets. Giant hassle.

We have received an internal notice from Ticketing which clarifies several points:

As far as Disney is concerned, a service member does not have to buy or activate all tickets at the same time. As long as you do not buy/activate more than six tickets during the promotion. Note that it seems that the military will only make the sale at one time. So if you will be buying the tickets on base, but doing more than one trip, you have to purchase all at one time on base only.

A spouse may now purchase/activate up to six tickets.

Back-to-back use by one person is not allowed. Seven calendar days must separate usages by the same party.

Under new rules, a foreign/coalition partner stationed at a U.S., Base who has a permanent US Military (CAC ) card will be allowed to purchase/activate tickets.

Thanks CF,

I'm hearing that the Disney call center and Shades of Green are telling military guests that back to back use is OK.

I assume because the original press release does not mention it...

I have a question. Do they sell you the exchange certificate or the actual tickets at the base?

Thanks!

We have always gotten actual tickets from ITR. However, we still had to activate them at guest services.

No, they are good until the expiration date printed on the ticket (or until you use all your entitlements).

This may have been answered already, so I apologize if that is the case.

Are Disneyland and WDW separate as far as this promotion is concerned? We are going to DLand in Nov (need to purchase 6 tickets) but I am going to WDW solo in a few weeks (need just one ticket) and we have no plans to return to WDW before the promotion is over. Does the "6 tickets rule" apply to both coasts? Or, are they handled separately? In other words, can I do this?

I believe they are separate. At least that was our experience with the last promotion.

My brother is retired from the US Army. Is he eligible? If so, what does he need to bring with him? I am assuming we would go to Shades of Green when we arrive? We are not staying there, though. Is that ok?

Thank you!

Yes, retired military are eligible for the Military Salute tickets. If you go buy the voucher at Shades, you get it tax free. But, you can buy the MS ticket at any park ticket window which would include tax. If you buy it at Shades, you'll have to stop at Guest Services and activate the tickets before entering the park. He'll just need to show his military ID to purchase the tickets at either place, and no, you don't have to be staying at Shades to go there and buy the tickets.

My husband and I just went to WdW in October and purchased our 2 tickets at our base ITt office. We are now planning on going again in January. Will we be able to buy these tickets on base or will we have to do them at SoG or guest relations?

Hi and :welcome: to DisBoards!

As far as buying the Salute tickets, some bases do restrict them to a single purchase during the life of the promotion. However, Disney's rules is that no more than six may be activated by one service member during the life of the promotion.

Also, the tickets my be purchased at any Park ticket window, but those are subject to the Florida 6.5% sales tax.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #17, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!
