Biggest Loser Fall Challenge!

QOTD: Well, it's just the usual. Morning walks MWF, TTh class then quick one mile walk with the dog. What I need to do is run again. I am planning to do that tomorrow morning. Now if I could just do it after work things would be so much better! Need to get some ab work and weight lifting in there, too, but I don't have a "plan" for those. Which might explain why they never get done! :rotfl2:

Happy Friday, just been so busy this week, but I am tired, I mean I am about to take a nap, and I have not taken a nap since ever lol. I hope everyone had a great week and an active weekend. I got to get out of this house. Lol.

Hello all! I am your coach this week. I am Jill and this is my 4th BL challenge. I started last fall and love all the support from these threads. I would like to lose about 7-12 more pounds before DH graduates in January, however, these last few pounds are refusing to budge! Anyhow, I live in western PA with DH, DS9, and DS6. I am a teacher at an alternative education school. I teach History and also special education. My students right now are in 7th-12th grades, but we are licensed for 4th-12th. And yes, we have had students as young as 11.
Thanks for coaching!!

What are your exercise plans for this week?

I will try to squeeze in a little exercise tonight, but my parents are visiting, so it may not be much. I plan to be recreationally active Saturday, but taking it easy in advance of my 13 mile training run on Sunday - EEK! :faint:
The weekdays next week will have 2 short/easy run/walks, plus 2 strength trainings.

We follow my boss towards the break room and when we get there, there's a huge ice cream cake with "Congratulations!," our names and how many years we've been with the company on it. Some of us were making our 5th, 10th, and 15th year with the company this month and we were getting cake to celebrate!

I totally forgot about it! I've been there 5 years! (Wonder how many groceries I've scanned... :rolleyes: ) Our boss made a nice little speech of how much he appreciated our hard work and our staying with the company and all that we do until finally I couldn't stop myself and asked, 'So does that mean I can have a raise?' Everybody got a good laugh out of that one. And he didn't say no, so we'll see!

We also got a little commemorative pin to wear with how many years we've been there, plus our pictures taken for 'The Wall of Honor.' Personally, I was just happy getting ice cream cake and an extra 15 minute break. :goodvibes

Let me just say, this job isn't my favorite. I honestly didn't think I would have been there 2 years, much less 5. And I'll admit it (as will several others...) that retail isn't the easiest job to do; not that it's hard, it's just some of the people you have to deal with on a regular basis... :sad2: So it was nice to get a little appreciation for what I do from my managers and to really feel like a little more than just another cashier for a day.

And for those who were wondering, I only had one small piece of cake. ;)

Heading to bed! Good night everyone!

That is wonderful!:banana: It is funny to look back on your life and think about it. I was a cashier when I worked in high school. It was also my social life since I worked 23 - 26 hours a week ... 3 night shifts for 5 hours and one 8 hour day on the weekend (these times were mandatory). I was saving for college.

At the time I HATED it. We had a manager that was a real jerk, CRAZY customers (one of the regulars killed his wife then himself) and other teen-agers who were trying to find their way in life. But, now looking back .... it really was the best job I ever had. I met my husband there, my best friend .... and a bunch of people who still get together and talk about our days working there. So, congrats on 5 years!

So I ran the ToT 10-Miler! And finished! My time was 1:53:17, which, given how warm and muggy it was, is pretty awesome in my book. This was my first big race, and I had a great time. There were so many people in rough shape, both on the course and afterward, that I think I must have prepped just right with food, water, Powerade, and pacing. Time to get ready for the half marathon in January!

XO
Liz

Hey Liz,

This is my goal for next year. Can you give some more details as to where you ran? Your time was great. I would love to say I finished it at that time! Congrats1

QOTD WEDNESDAY: What are your plans for the upcoming weekend? Is it a long one for you?
No days off, but my parents will be visiting. We are celebrating my birthday a few weeks early with a nice dinner on Saturday. We also plan to do some outdoor Fall activities, like visit a pumpkin patch.

What is one food that you can't live without? Is it a healthy food or not so healthy food?
Dessert! If I have to pick one, I don't know if I can. If I have to pick 2...ice cream and cookies. Obviously not healthy foods. :upsidedow

Mine is coffee ...... It really keeps me alive! ;)

Friday, October 5 QOTD

What are your exercise plans for this week?

I'll be on to reply after I take the kids to school, go for a run, and go visit my great aunt. Happy Friday!

Jill

I plan on running tomorrow. I am up to 30 minutes without stopping which gets me around 2 1/2 miles. I want to push it to 3 on Saturday ... however, it is suppose to pour and get really cold. So, I might have to do it on Sunday.

I will definitely be ACTIVE this weekend, but no specific workout planned. DS and I are doing a Segway tour in Boston today and tomorrow is still up in the air. DD and I are most likely heading to Mystic Aquarium either Sunday or Monday, but nothing is booked yet. :confused3

I see lots of walking in my weekend.... but probably a bit of recreational eating too!:rotfl:

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!.....................P

Pam, those sound like great plans with your children. Let me know how the Segway tour goes. I have never been on one and have been thinking of doing one in Gettysburg with the guys.

Happy Friday, just been so busy this week, but I am tired, I mean I am about to take a nap, and I have not taken a nap since ever lol. I hope everyone had a great week and an active weekend. I got to get out of this house. Lol.

Okay ... with 2 little babies, you deserve a nap! :goodvibes

On my way to the Homecoming parade in our community. We stop all traffic for this 15 minute parade. Not a happy time for rush hour traffic! :rotfl2:

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! :)

Hi everyone! My name is Ruby I'm 28 ! .. I am hoping to join this group for motivation. In November of 2011 I made up my mind to lose weight for or Disney trip in December. A year and a half before that I fractured my tibia and dislocated my ankle. I had surgery done and metal rods and screws were inserted. I was in bed for a good 4 months during the process. Once the Dr have me the ok to start walking I had added more weight to what I was already hauling around. Long story short the weight was affecting the healing if my leg and I couldn't walk long distances even with comfy shoes. That's why I decided to lose weight for Disney. I lost about 30 lbs before our trip but I was 120 lbs over weight so I was still hauling a lot of excess weight. When we came back from Disney I continued my diet and exercise. As of today I have lost 92 lbs! My goal for this fall is to lose 100 lbs since my weight loss began! I have struggled with the remaining weight & lost some motivation. As our Christmas Disney trip approaches I'd like to replace my fat pictures with the new skinny me!

Wow that's amazing and crazy. It amazing because that's a lot of weight and with your injury and all so congratulations, secondly I decide to lose weight for my December trip too, this year thought. I also have major weight that needs to come off so far 46 lbs hoping to make it to make it to 93 lbs loss total by our December trip( we are going 10-15) my sister was in a bad car accident and had shattered her right leg they had to put pins and rods and she was in bed for a year. She put on a lot of weight as well, it's hard for her to exercise because of the pain she still to this day feels. But thank goodness we are still alive right, that's a reason to celebrate right there, and getting healthy to live longer lol. I hope your dreams come true and what better place then the most magical. Your almost there........ Welcome , Congrats, and good luck

Goingg for a 9-mile run tomorrow. It'll be my longest run since the Tinker Bell 1/2 back in January. Most of my other long runs have been 6 miles, so this will be a bit more challenging. But I need to get these in over the next few weeks for the Wine & Dine Half. Then for the rest of the week - 3 runs and 2 strength training workouts.

Have a great weekend!

A segway tour sounds so fun! Be careful and have a good time hanging with your kids!

Hello everyone, another crazy week! Hope you all are doing fabulous!!

I'm down again this week so maybe I'm finally getting back on track.

QOTD: Next Sunday is my 2nd half marathon, so probably run 3-4 days and then alternate with some weights or pilates a couple of nights! :)

Congrats on the loss. It sounds like you have a good plan in place this week. Where is your 1/2 marathon?

Good morning all! So excited that I am down again today .... I think that would put me at around 25lbs from my highest so happy with that. Still not able to do much in lines of working out because my feet are still healing :( the skin has been peeling off leaving tender skin exposed...so frustrating because as I see the weight slowing coming off I become motivated to do more to loose and I am just stuck..
I took a 4 day weekend since the kids are off...not much planned its football season so DS plays on both the freshman and JV teams so he has games tonight and Monday and DH refs so he is gone most Friday nights and all day Saturday's

May take both my nieces and DD to the mall to just hang out today....just to be out and doing something

We are starting our own pseudo WW group in our office this week to challenge each other so hopefully that will help as well to keep me motivated.

Have a great weekend all!!

Good job on the loss this week. How did DS's game go? What position does he play?

no loss for me this week! What a bummer. My legs are looking nice and toned, tummy is tighter, scale hates me! lol Oh well! I know that I was good and this is just my body "doing it's thing" and hopefully it will eventually catch up.

Off to the gym for a workout and then a run. Hope you all have a great Friday!
K :)

Even though the scale might not have moved, it sounds like you are doing great. I swear there is no rhyme or reason to scales :lmao: How did your run go?

Happy to have you for the coach this week..
For exercise this week, I have my normal T & Th Zumba class and I won a silent auction for a class on F.. other then that just the normal stuff like laundry, grocery shopping, maybe some raking ..

Hope everyone has a great weekend! and especially those of you who have a long one (I sadly do not) I'll see you all on Monday..

Oh PS... I was down this week putting me into the 170's!! I am so excited I have been there in about 3 years!

Thanks!

Yay and congrats on the 170s! Keep up the good work! I have never tried Zumba but have friends that love it. Maybe I should give it a try?
Have fun dancing the punds away.

What kind of class do you take on T/Th? I hope you get running again. I was in a running slump and some great weather motivated me this week. I ran 2 days and I haven't run since Labor Day! Just get out there and get in that zone. It'll feel so good!

Happy Friday, just been so busy this week, but I am tired, I mean I am about to take a nap, and I have not taken a nap since ever lol. I hope everyone had a great week and an active weekend. I got to get out of this house. Lol.

I hope you enjoyed your nap!

Hello Ruby and welcome! Congrats on all you've achieved so far. This is a great group for support and information. Make sure to pm Octoberbride03 to make sure she has your information and pm your weigh in every Friday(or over the weekend) to kollerbear.

Good luck on you run :) The Wine and Dine half looks like so much fun. Have you done this race before?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, my day was busier than I expected. I didn't even answer my own QOTD! I ran today for 3.5 miles. I'm not sure about tomorrow, but I will do some yoga, a spinning class or 2, and a circuit training class. If the weather cooperates, I am hoping to run at least one day.
I've been doing so good with my exercise, but my eating isn't too good. I have to do better. I need to track everything.
Funny story~I asked DS6 what he wanted me to buy for when he packs his lunches at school. His reply? Can't we please have Doritos? We never have Doritos. :rotfl2: My kids are deprived! Can you believe that last year when he was in Kindergarten, a child brought a can of soda in his lunch! The students aren't even allowed to have soda at our school, but in a kindergartener's lunch? My kids were excited to have 1/2 a can of Sprite tonight since my sister had a little party before the Homecoming parade!
Since it's getting late (actually this is really late for me) I'm going to post the QOTD for tomorrow now.
QOTD Saturday October 6
It seems like sometimes we have days where we are so busy we do not have time to cook dinner. What do you do? Do you have a go to quick meal or fast food that you can rely on in a pinch? What is this go to meal and how does it fit into your healthy eating plan?
I'll be back in the morning to check in. Good night!
We live MILES from any fast food, so we don't rely on it. If we are out and about and we need something quick it tends to be Subway, grocery store salad bar, or Wendy's chili or baked potatoes.
If we are home and need something fast, it tends to be eggs. The family eats a combo of whole eggs and egg whites and I eat egg whites. A quick omelet with some baby spinach and low fat cheese, maybe on a low carb wrap or with sugar free organic applesauce, or a Vitamuffin for a treat! I also try to keep fresh greens and hummus on hand always so that I can whip together a big dinner salad pretty quickly as well.
Happy Saturday friends!
DS and I had a great time on our Segway tour yesterday here in Boston. We had done a Segway tour last year in NH so we felt like old pros! It really is just like riding a bike..you don't forget! We went all around the downtown Boston waterfront area, through Rowes Wharf, Long Wharf etc. much different than the very rural experience we had last year.
Then we enjoyed a treat in Quincy Market, watch a street performer, and ended the day with pizza and Netflix in our hotel!
Now for today....I have a little problem...it seems I have developed some sort of raging eye infection. Not conjunctivitis. I took out my contact when the eye started to bother me yesterday and just spent the day with one contact. It still seems bad today, so I am considering a visit to the local ER after breakfast. But I may wait until this evening and wait til I'm home for the night and call my own eye doc. Not sure yet what the best idea is. I have moments when it feels okay and then other moments when I wonder if I will be able to drive home. Oh well... I will figure it out.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Our weather is turning out better than expected! TTYL..........P
DS had an AMAZING game last night :) 2 interceptions and ran one back just shy of the goal line to set up another Panther touchdown!!! He plays defensive end and strong safety for defense and special teams on JV.....freshman he plays wide receiver on offense as well as DE and SS
so much fun watching when he has such a good game and so proud when so many others parents and kids come up to me and acknowledge his game afterwards!!
One proud mom here this morning :)
Have to confess that we should have stock in McDonalds :( I will say I often skip getting something and just find something to eat at home...might be frozen veggies or something but better than fast food....especially since they have the calorie counts on the menu now...Yikes!!!
I don't know anything about football, but it sounds good!:thumbsup2 congrats to your DS!
Ate breakfast here at the hotel. Probably too much of it, but lunch will be snacks in the car probably. Still no big plans for today. We are in a great historic area, but DS has NO interest...so I'm trying to figure out something fun for the rest of today! Something I can do with one eye! :) TTYL...........P
QOTD: DH likes Burger King! I try to throw together a stir fry with a bag of frozen veggies if we need something fast. Or whatever bag in a meal I grab from the freezer. Really like those for a pinch! I try to throw in another bag of veggies and a can of black (or whatever) beans to stretch them/make them a wee bit healthier. Other times we have tuna fish sandwiches. DH loves those. In fact, I had to put a stop to his constantly buying them from the cafeteria at work. Way too much money being spent. :scared1:
Got my run in this morning. :banana: It was 42 degrees and I wore a vest, but think I might have gotten by without it. It had just been so long since I'd run in cooler weather that I couldn't quite remember what I wore! :lmao:
Thinking I'll squeeze in another run tomorrow night after I drop DS2 at church for his choir rehearsal/youth group. Today DH and I are planning to see Brave. I figured since we're going to DLR we better be up on all the characters, right?! :rotfl2:
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
We tend to swing through Wendy's in a pinch, also. I get a salad and try not to use any dressing. I do enjoy their chili and now that the weather is cooler, a chili sounds good!
I'm glad you had fun in Boston with DS. The whole eye thing stinks, though. How are you doing now?
The calories are so insane at fast food places. But, what did I expect? A big Mac for 100 calories? :rotfl: We only go to Mcdonald's a couple times a year. DH loves their Mocha Frappe though, so he sneaks there without us. We tend to stick to Wendy's, not that Wendy's is any healthier lol. Have you seen the Baconator? Whoa. That's a heart attack waiting to happen!
I tried the bag of veggies and made a quick stir fry once. I emphasize once, because I was the only one who ate it. DSs like veggies, but not as a main meal lol.
Good job on the run in this chilly weather. It was 47 here this morning & I went to the farmer's market. I froze my bum off getting apples and veggies. I love running, but I always quit in winter. Do you have any suggestions for running when it's cooler? Clothing suggestions? Thanks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DSs and I were shopping for 5 hours today! Now we are vegged out watching a movie. We went to the farmer's market first. Then, we finally got DS9 a Halloween costume. He has a party next weekend and I have no time to shop this week. He decided on Zorro. It's pretty cool. DS6 already has his ninja costume. Next stop was Burger King for a sit down break & lunch. I got a grilled chicken wrap plain. I don't know that it was the healthiest choice, but I avoided a Whopper Jr! We made it to Sam's Club and there had to be 30 samples today. I tried a mocha coffee and cod. Not together, though~that sounds gross lol. The cod was pretty good, so we bought some. And $120 later (this always happens to me at Sam's) we were out the door to go to our regular grocery store for a prescription and a couple small things I did not need in bulk from Sam's. I put all the groceries away, did a load of laundry, and now I am going to relax the rest of the night. I will probabaly do one more load of laundry, but that may be pushing it :)

I hope everyone is enjoying their fall weekend. I'll be back later to check in.

Great job with the running. Any races planned?

My nephew's school's parade was pretty short tonight. I think the weather scared some of the people away. How was the game?

Jill ... we are running a 5K at the Pittsburgh Zoo on Nov. 5th and another 5K around the Northside for the Steelwheelers. This one is on Oct. 20th. My youngest son really like to run these and it is something fun we can do together. I will let you know how they go.

The game was OK. We lost ... but the boys played a great game. We only have 28 kids on the football team and many of them are freshman and sophomores. However, we have 150 kids in the marching band (my other 2 sons have/are part of the band). We keep saying if there is no football team where will the band play??:upsidedow

It seems like sometimes we have days where we are so busy we do not have time to cook dinner. What do you do? Do you have a go to quick meal or fast food that you can rely on in a pinch? What is this go to meal and how does it fit into your healthy eating plan?

I'll be back in the morning to check in. Good night!

Jill

I tend to have frozen pizzas in the freezer. They are NOT healthy by any means, but they take 15 minutes to cook. This really doesn't happen very often. So I don't feel too guilty when I have to resort to it.

We live MILES from any fast food, so we don't rely on it. If we are out and about and we need something quick it tends to be Subway, grocery store salad bar, or Wendy's chili or baked potatoes.

If we are home and need something fast, it tends to be eggs. The family eats a combo of whole eggs and egg whites and I eat egg whites. A quick omelet with some baby spinach and low fat cheese, maybe on a low carb wrap or with sugar free organic applesauce, or a Vitamuffin for a treat! I also try to keep fresh greens and hummus on hand always so that I can whip together a big dinner salad pretty quickly as well.

Happy Saturday friends!

DS and I had a great time on our Segway tour yesterday here in Boston. We had done a Segway tour last year in NH so we felt like old pros! It really is just like riding a bike..you don't forget! We went all around the downtown Boston waterfront area, through Rowes Wharf, Long Wharf etc. much different than the very rural experience we had last year.

Then we enjoyed a treat in Quincy Market, watch a street performer, and ended the day with pizza and Netflix in our hotel!

Now for today....I have a little problem...it seems I have developed some sort of raging eye infection. Not conjunctivitis. I took out my contact when the eye started to bother me yesterday and just spent the day with one contact. It still seems bad today, so I am considering a visit to the local ER after breakfast. But I may wait until this evening and wait til I'm home for the night and call my own eye doc. Not sure yet what the best idea is. I have moments when it feels okay and then other moments when I wonder if I will be able to drive home. Oh well... I will figure it out.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Our weather is turning out better than expected! TTYL..........P

Sounds like you are having a great time Pam.

Hey ... take care of that eye. Our computer teacher last year had a red eye and thought it was his contacts. It was the beginning of the school year and he just kept putting off taking care if it. Well, by the time he went to the doctor he found out he had an ulcer on his eye and if he didn't have it taken care of, it could have become very serious. Hoping it clears up soon!

DS had an AMAZING game last night :) 2 interceptions and ran one back just shy of the goal line to set up another Panther touchdown!!! He plays defensive end and strong safety for defense and special teams on JV.....freshman he plays wide receiver on offense as well as DE and SS

so much fun watching when he has such a good game and so proud when so many others parents and kids come up to me and acknowledge his game afterwards!!

One proud mom here this morning :)

You should be proud. That is wonderful. What a great feeling to see your child succeed in something he has worked so hard at! :thumbsup2

Exercise for the weekend: We went to the Home and Garden Show and walked alover creation then went to the expo for the marathon tomorrow and again walked all over creation. Got to talk with Jeff Galloway and got some good training advise so will be out tomorrow morning running with his advise in tow.

As for food in a pinch we try to do subway for sandwichs or grab a roasted chicken and veggies at the store on the way home.

Hey Liz,

This is my goal for next year. Can you give some more details as to where you ran? Your time was great. I would love to say I finished it at that time! Congrats1

Thanks!! I was really happy with it, especially considering the heat factor. I think it was warmer and muggier than we'd anticipated, given the start time (10pm). So the start line was at the DHS parking lot (the smaller of the entry booths, I believe). We ran the ramp up to Osceola Parkway and took that all the way down to the AK entrance, the looped around and went back down Osceola Parkway. Then we hung a right onto a trail that took us into the Wide World of Sports complex. We went all over that - around the track and the baseball stadium (probably one of my favorite parts!) and then out of the complex. Down Victory Way and somewhere else (definitely losing track of where I was at this point!), then heading into DHS via a back entrance. The last mile, pretty much, was in DHS - a combination of back- and onstage areas.

I ran from Corral B, which seemed like the right placement for me for this race. I'm not sure how the finishing times worked out for the corrals, but I'm guessing I was middle of the pack for Corral B. We had friends in the same corral (Ryan and Pat, who did the podcast segment with us) who finished 20 minutes ahead of me, but I know my overall placement was 2259 of (I think) about 9000 finishers.

I'm so glad I did it, and I'm looking forward to the half in January - already nervous about tacking on another 5K to what I ran last weekend! I'm staying the course with the Galloway training program - it served me well for the 10-miler. :)

Good luck!!

XO
Liz

I'm going to make this quick considering its already 1am.

Nothing much planned the rest of the weekend. I'm going to be doing some baking tomorrow: peanut butter blossom cookies and coffee cake. We're putting pork in the crockpot for pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. Monday I have an early RE apt that morning. I'm going to be making a lasagna for dinner. We'll more then likely have salads and bread as sides.

I started this weight loss journey on Oct 23rd of last year. As of this past Friday I'm down 30 pounds since being in FL. I'm 1 pound away from being down 40 pounds overall (since May 2010).

G'night everyone, sweet dreams..

Good Sunday morning :) I am going to post the QOTD and then do replies later after church and some running around.

Sunday, October 7 QOTD

It's a chilly 42 degrees in wesern PA. Winter is trying to creep in. How do you prepare for exercising during colder months? Do you still go outside to exercise or do you stay inside? And, if you live where you don't have cold months, you're lucky :)

QOTD -
Catching up after a good Saturday.

As far as what to do when we're short of time, we try to have "supper in the car". Both my husband and daughter love chicken salad (canned chicken, a little lowfat mayo, a little mustard) so I'll make sandwiches out of that for them. For me, I'll make tuna salad (canned water packed tuna and light BBQ sauce) and put it on low point bread. We almost never stop for fast food which is saying something because we used to stop three or four times a week. The key for me is to be prepared. Our little ice chest comes everywhere with us.

If we're at home, I rely on quick meals. For me, it's two poached eggs over spinach. For them, a pasta of some kind with frozen shrimp usually works. I also always have waffles and in a pinch, I'll make them breakfast for dinner.

As for Sunday's QOTD, it does get cold here in NW Florida - especially since I'll be out in the wee hours of the morning. We just layer and deal with it as best we can.
