Packing tips: what I bring now that did not before

Just back from DL but this goes for WDW too. I now pack an unopened liquid hand soap & a room scent/ decorative type air freshener. The soap is so much nicer to use at the sink in comparison to the bars. I dont bring it home. Just toss it. As for the air freshener, I cannot stand how hotel rooms smell. Totally worth it to bring these 2 small extras.

Other than that, my most favorite hotel room tool is my over-the-door shoe organizer. I hang it over the closet rod and use it to hold all my bathroom supplies from toothpaste, brushes, deodorant. Almost everything. Keeps the bathroom so much tidier.

Thank you for posting this. I leave in the morning and totally forgot to pack these.

That's funny - - my DS always comments that the "hotel smell" is what lets him know he's truly on vacation!

Can I please beg you (and anyone else) to bring a freshener with a mild scent? I can get an instant sinus headache from scented body lotions, body sprays, perfumes, strong deodorants (ax is the worst!), and strong air fresheners. I know of many other people with allergies and asthma that have instant reactions to the same things. I don't know how long the scent lingers after the air freshener is removed, but I don't want to walk into my hotel room and get hit with a headache bc of an air freshener.

Join the club. My asthma kicks in as soon as I am exposed to strong fragrances. Doesn't seem to matter what it is- if it's perfumed it will send me into a coughing fit. I always opt for fragrance free toiletries and household cleaners. Even DH has sworn off fragrances in his toiletries. Bless him- he used to love his aftershave.

Please leave the scented room fresheners at home, where they belong, or choose something very, very mild that won't linger after you're gone.

Here we go..... :duck:

I FeBreeze the hell out of the room, and my stuff, every day. FeBreeze with Gain.

Feel free to Febreeze the hell out of your own stuff every day. But please don't spray the drapes, carpet and pillows. Especially the pillows.

Seriously? The rooms are cleaned with all kinds of cleansers that have scents, I'm sure you won't smell the air freshener from the previous occupants. I'm sure people are using all sorts of things in the room before you get there. We stay in a DVC villa and there is cooking involved and we don't smell that when we get there. All we smell are the cleansers.

YOu know what I always always find funny on these scent threads.

People swoon and drool over all the smells at WDW....Soarin, Cookies on Main Street, the Poly lobby YET...

The hotel room, anything used in the hotel room - before they even arrived - will give them instant headaches and breathing troubles.

Just a strange observation.

I was going to bring air freshener but I have kids with asthma and I had an asthma attack the other day. I sprayed a new air freshener and had issues breathing a few moments later.

What would be something lighter to bring to use in the room?

Love it all. I personally find the gross room smells more irritating (and I have asthma too) than anything. I also encourage a park wide smell initiative. Better room smells & less park BO. ;)

:thumbsup2:joker: I agree.

I think they should hand out WISPS at the end of meals, as well.

Ever been stuck in line with someone with butt-breath? It's not fun. :crazy2:

We drive down in our mini van and my dh laughs at how much stuff I bring. Yes, I bring the hand soap pumps, clorox wipes, and the over the door shoe holder. I also bring a drying rack because there are never enough towel bars. Last trip, my dh brought the Keurig coffee maker and I brought a crockpot (we stay in a condo or townhouse).

I also bring extra ziploc bags and trashbags, as these always come in handy.

Just to add some levity to a potentially tense thread....

The other day my husband dropped a fabric softener sheet on the floor and the dog came running over to it and started to lay down and roll on it.

So I guess we all know which way he is voting in the Fragrance/NO fragrance debate.

Only strange to someone unfamiliar with people with respiratory problems.

Not all 'smells' trigger asthmatic reactions. And most asthmatics are fine in the open air as long as there isn't a high particulate load to which they are allergic. I'm usually fine outside as long as there isn't a lot of smoke in the air. And I'm fine inside the Poly lobby- a high volume space with good air circulation. But I can't go near the sales shop in Norway or France because of their perfume counters. Same thing with department store cosmetics departments. But I can hang in a food court all day. :confused3

But put an asthmatic in a small room with poor air circulation and a high load of aerosolized particles (as in room fresheners, perfume) and you've got trouble. I don't love the smell of some hotel rooms either- but I equally don't want to have to inhale the stuff that you sprayed all over the place the day before I got there.

I have asthma.
