21 Days till Disney World - A Project a Day! #9 - Autograph Book Bag

I had Disney-somia last night. Raise your hand if you get this. It's where you can't stop thinking about what to pack and what to wear and don't forget the MNSSHP tickets whatever you do. I was up past 3am. :coffee:

I was up too, not for Disney, but I totally get that!

...but when he realized he would get to choose an adult dessert following every meal and not that darn ubiquitous kids' sundae, he used that to tease his sister mercilessly. So, she quickly pointed out that as an "adult" who gets a "big dessert" he will NOT get the pail. The wind went out of his sails real quick.
Don't mess with your baby sister AJ! She'll get ya!

It is our first ever party. We are quite excited, and we have very few expectations. So I decided iron-on tees were the solution.

Great t-shirts! You'll love the party. It is super fun, I wish we were still going this year!

*** Has anyone done the Dining Plan with a 10-12 year old? How did they like ordering off the adult menu?

My daughter is 9 but she has such high metabolism from figure skating that on our last trip she would often want to order from the adults meal and I would end up with her kids meal. I find there is way too much food for me on there so I was fine with that!

I'm going to start sewing today, so go easy on me with that, Oh Master of the Sewing Machine.

Oooo - whatcha making?!?

Alysa, you will have to wait and see!!! haha!!!

Seriously, I am not completely sure yet. We are heading to Hobby Lobby in a bit to see what we can see. I am hoping for a cute Princess fabric and definitely some black and white polka dots to do a minnie inspired dress!!

Figure skating? Very cool!!!

I'm trying to link the chapters but it is not working. I have clearly lost some brain cells since last time I did this. Can anyone help a sister out?

Welcome!!!!

I'm going to start sewing today, so go easy on me with that, Oh Master of the Sewing Machine.

ROFL... I only started sewing less than 2 years ago - totally self taught... It was something I wanted to learn, so I made up my mind to learn it - turns out that I love it too...

I am always open to answering questions, because I love to get others as addicted as I am. So, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out. :thumbsup2

This sounds super cute! I can't wait to see it! Do you know which pattern you are going to use?

I am not sure which one you are trying to link, but here is how I do mine...

^ I put a space right there so you could see the code.

It will link like this: Help!!!

I just clicked on the #23 at the top of your above post to open it in a new window, and c&p'd the address, which goes right behind the =. Hopefully I explained it right and hopefully I understood what you were asking. :rolleyes1

Yes, that is what I was trying to do! Thank you -- it all came rushing back as our explained it!!

I taught myself to sew back in 2000!! We bought a house and were too poor to buy window treatments, so I figured I could sew a straight line, right? Well, I couldn't. But after some practice I could. Now I make windown treatments for everyone I know. If they ask! I'm more limited with clothing because I have never done a zipper and it just seems frustrating. I sure can think of some creative ways around a zipper, though! :)

Pattern? What is this "pattern" you speak of? haha I do use patterns from time to time but I'm whipping up a swingshirt/ruffle pant combo and a few pillowcase dresses.... I don't need patterns for those. That doesn't mean I am a great seamstress; it means they are incredibly simple, for all you non-sewers out there! I think I will also make a bag for Paige's autograph book with my scraps. I've actually googled hand applique since seeing your stuff.... Amazing, woman. I don't have the sewing skill, the artistic ability, or patience. What was the first thing you ever appliqued? Do you recall?

Aw good... Sometimes I get so excited that I know how to do something, and I go to explain it, and it's the wrong thing. :confused3

This is awesome! That is the exact reason I learned how to sew too! I was redoing the girls' rooms, and I wanted to hem Alli's curtains... It's just a straight line... right?

Believe it or not, I do have a zipper tutorial around here some where... let me know if you want it, and I will try to dig it up for you.

This sounds super cute! I really can't wait to see it... I wish my girls were still little enough to wear what I make... I kick myself all the time that I totally missed out on sewing for them. At least they like some of my bags - but would never carry them IRL...

This would be cool too!!

There's an amazing hand applique tutorial from Heather Sue... Hmmm... I need to find that one for you - that's the tutorial I learned from... http://disboutique.blogspot.com/search/label/applique

Ummm... My first applique ever... Don't LOL... I made a baby outfit as a gift for a friend, and I appliqued the flower on to the shirt, so it coordinated with the rest of the outfit.

Happy birthday to your son!! How funny that so many of us will be there together!!! Now, you're freaking me out just a teeny bit... MNSSHP is the 2nd right? At least, I thought we were going on the last day. Perhaps not! What will your son wear to the party? Have fun! Say :wave2: if you see our ragtag band of misfits roaming around!

THIS was your first attempt?? Or I should say, success, with applique?

I hate you.

:upsidedow

I kid! I guess some people are just born to some things. That is beautiful and I'd never laugh. I have even shown the hubster your stuff on FB and he's all, whoaaaa....... If you can impress him with a craft project you are doig ok for yourself.

Yes, that was my first attempt... I had done one little square patch on a wallet for a Big Give once before, just to check out my settings, but yes - this was my first real applique.

Now... Let's quit chatting about my stuff and move along with your fantastic crafts. :thumbsup2 What's next on your list?

Good afternoon, friends!

We had a hiccup in the chain link process last night, and hence no picture. The precious sweetheart Miss Paige had to get up way before her usual time yesterday so by dinner she was C to the Ranky. She did NOT want her picture taken removing the chain link. I tried to be sneaky but there was a freak-out reaction so I gave up. The chain link message:

Kiss Mickey's nose.

This is a bit of an inside joke, as on my older kids' first trip in 2007, Leah (age 3) began crying on the way home. We couldn't get out of her what was wrong for the longest time. I figured she was just exhausted, as we had gone commando for five hard-core open to close days. But she finally managed to sputter out "I nnnee-vvvv-eeerrrr gggggot toooo KISS Mmmmmickey's n-n-n-oosssse."

Now, we had no idea that nose-kissing was on her To-Do list, but we have certainly never let her go another trip without doing it. She will be 19 and kissing that mouse's nose whether she likes it or not.

I got a strange inclination to call WDW and change resorts yesterday. Well, that was a no-go. To change I'd have to give up FD and that ain't happening. Not with 7 mouthes to feed. So I tried to extract some reassurance from the chicky on the phone that we would end up on the ground floor of CBR. Because we have that ECV. I kind of feel like the original booking guy should have reminded me that they don't have elevators there. I have stayed there, but it was 10 years ago and Grandmas with bad knees were not on my mind. She wasn't reassuring. She said, it's written here "plain as day." She said if the ground floor request couldn't be granted then we could leave the scooter plugged in outside. Huh? So it can be stolen or rained on or vandalized? She said if necessary, baggage services would come haul it up and down the stair for us. 4-5 times a day, I asked? And who will haul Grandma up and down the stairs, I asked? I promised I said it sweetly -- I really really did! -- but her response was not amused. She said, we cannot carry guests up stairs or anywhere else.

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

So, I am nervous. I think she was so non-aumsed by me that she flagged my ressie and said - TOP FLOOR, FAR AWAY BULDING, NO CONNECTING ROOMS FOR YOU!

I guess we will see what happens...

OK, so the reason for the post: Today's Project.

I got started on the sewing later than planned yesterday. I wanted to finish two things, but only got through one. While the cutting and sewing only took 30 minutes, dragging out the machine, threading, bobbin-ing, looking for the fabric scissors (I swear if my middle child uses them to cut her doll's hair one more time I might go stark raving mad), all took another hour. Sigh. I had so much fabric leftover that I will make her an autograph book-holder that matches.

So here is the finished product:
IMG_0226.jpg

Paige will wear this to Chef Mickey's. Since it'll be evening and maybe a bit cool, I will have either a long or capped sleeve black top underneath and black leggings. This is a standard pillow case dress, but I made it shorter to fit more like a swingtop. I wanted it to be worn with leggings due to the weather.

Since I had the iron out (I rarely pin small projects like this - I just iron the stew out of hemlines) I finished our name shirts. Here is mine:
IMG_0227.jpg

Alice, Dinah and Cheshire and second only to Jiminy in my book.

Here's a closeup:
IMG_0228.jpg

I think we will wear these shirts the day before we leave, 11/7. It's our 2nd MK day and we will need some happy thoughts as we prepare to leave our happy place.

Let me here from you, readers!!!

LOL Cute story. :flower3:

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao: Seriously - what happened to her DIsney attitude today? :confused3

And serious bummer about not being able to switch resorts and losing your FD... Seriously - I would call back and try another CM... You may not be able to switch resorts, but she might be a bit nicer and transfer you to the person in charge of medical necessity requests (I know there is an offical name for this CM - and I also know they exist).

So, I am nervous. I think she was so non-aumsed by me that she flagged my ressie and said - TOP FLOOR, FAR AWAY BULDING, NO CONNECTING ROOMS FOR YOU!

I guess we will see what happens...

This would be really awful!

Let me here from you, readers!!!

Everything turned out super cute!! I love the fabrics you chose for the pillowcase dress! Adorable!

Who knew?? Seems someone at WDW coulda coughed up that info. We could definitely provide plenty of documentation.

I might just do this. The real problem comes in because we don't just need ground floor, we need rooms next door. Adjoining would be lovely, but I know better than to push my luck. Because we are a family of 5 we booked AJ with my parents, and the kiddos will be taking turns rooming with them. They can't be wandering around he resort going back and forth.

I really feel like the CM who booked me the first time (Darryl with a Disney D!, who was very very nice and fun) should've said, "Hey lady, you don't want CBR. You want somewhere with an elevator."

Ah well. C'est la vie. I think I will count on faith, trust, and a little pixie dust!pixiedust:

Love the pillowcase dress/shirt for your daughter! The fabric choices go so well together! :thumbsup2 Oh, how I wish I could sew! I can do some basic hand sewing, but haven't used a machine since Home Ec. in high school. And I did all hand sewing to actually make my projects, now I think about it.

Can't wait for your next project!!

Thanks!! These are so simple and fun to make. It would be a great first project!! Seriously, if you can thread the machine and hit the on button, you can make one of these!!! The toughest part is deciding on a fabric -- so many cute ones out there that it takes me forever to make up my mind.

I"m not sure why the dress pic is sideways... It isn't on my computer, but it did come out that way on Photobucket. :scratchin

Just 27 days to go until we leave!! Last night I started making lists.

Things to Buy
Things to Pack
Things not to forget
Electronic contraptions not to forget
What to wear each day (mainly just for Paige)

I could go on and on but I will spare you. Lists are kind of my thing. And label makers. It's a sickness.

I canceled Tusker House and switched up to Raglan Road for dinner on Saturday, November 3. We always hit up DTD after our AK day. AK only takes us a few hours. We ride EE, the safari, the Primeval Hurl and we are good to go. The kids might traipse through the Boneyard, where we will fear we will never see them again and we will join other parents in randomly shouting our kids' names into tunnels and cubbies and hoping they pop out. We like to see FOTLK but it's not a necessity. My parents wanted a day of rest on this day, so they are taking this day off, but will be joining us for dinner. They will also do just a few hours at DHS with us later in the trip. LIke I said, they really want to make use of those hammocks. I hope its cool out (65-75) because they love that weather.

So I chose Ragland Road for three main reasons: 1. I seriously like the Serious Steak, 2. My Mom is Irish and has been to Ireland a few times and I'd like her take on the place, and 3. I wanted to ensure that we actually make it to DTD. I can see us lazy-ing out. But we haven't seen the new Lego stuff yet, and the kids love getting those Potato Head parts. Even AJ, at 10 years old, still gets into this. It's all about the excitement of packing as many body parts and accessories as one can into those boxes.

IMG_0367.jpg

We got our Mickey Mail at the 32 day out mark. This seemed earlier than normal, but perhaps that is because we paid the trip off the day we booked it. What does everyone think of the new luggage tags? I was excited to get something besides the castle, though I loved those we have lots, and I think the Mickey head is super cute. But is it just me or are these a bit flimsy? And I don't like the plastic attachey-string. It was hard to work with.

So this is hardly a project, and I apologize, but I did get the luggage tags attached to backpacks last night:

IMG_0220-1.jpg

Cute, huh?

By the by, it has been tough to convince my Mom that she didn't need that luggage tags to get on the "Disney magical airport bus." The rest of us call that the Magical Express, of course. She was also non-convinced that she should attach the bright neon ME tags to her luggage when she checks the bags in St. Louis. She thinks it will throw off the Delta employees. I assured her that Delta sees people going to WDW everyday of the week and they will not be confused by them. She seemed to accept this but I think she was patronizing me and doing that "dialing her ear" thing to show my Dad how crazy she thinks I am.

Here are a few things I have found on clearance lately:

Minnie outift from Ross, marked down to $3.99. I don't buy character clothes, typcally, so Paige was thrilled with this. I can't decide if I find it cute or not, but for 4 bucks I can give it the benefit of the doubt.
IMG_0235.jpg

This was from BabyGap outlet and was on clearance for 3.37 or somesuch, plus I had a 25% off coupon plus I had 10% off for using my reusable Gap bag.
IMG_0236.jpg

Now the hubster got a good laugh out of this. I honestly thought of nothing but Tinkerbelle when I read "Fairy in Training" but his mind went elsewhere. So now I have a feeling we will snicker at this all day when she wears it. However, this is man who actually hopes for his daughters to be lesbians because he would rather not deal with boys coming by for dates. :rotfl2: He is serious, I might add. However, this could easily go in the "jammie t-shirt" pile just because we have plenty of homemade tees to wear.

Does anyone know where to find a pop up hamper? All I am coming across are 1. expensive ones, or B. mesh bags.

Thanks for reading -- please say hi! I'd love to meet each of you!:wave2:

I am going to forge ahead with this PTR... I promised an update each day until we leave, and by golly Imma gonna do it!

So, for reals, my trip is 26 days away. Craziness. This trip was conceptualized in March 2010 so that fact that it is now so close is surreal. And almost sad. Maybe you all are the only people on earth who can understand what I mean.
: as much as I want to trip to get here, I know I don't want it to be over. This feeling is even stronger than usual because in 2013 we are NOT going to WDW. This is because we have ear-marked 2013 for a trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas. And I think in 2014 we are going to do the Disney cruise out of Galveston. So who knows when I will be back to my happy place... 2015, I suppose. :(

But enough boo-hooing.... I'M LEAVING IN 26 DAYS! So much to do, so little time.

So I have done a bit more sewing....
IMG_0234.jpg

Another pillowcase dress made to be worn with leggings. Paige had to have this fabric, because it has ALL her favorite princesses on it. ALL of them, she told me over and over. So I got it.

Paige's favorite princess is Cinderella, though her favorite princess movies are Alladin and Tangled. Actually, her favorite movie is Lilo and Stitch, but there is no princess in that one so she'd neevr actually admit it.

Ok, so for her birthday in March we had a Cinderella theme. One of my closest girlfriends here was a friend of Cindy's at Disneyland back in her 20s. I talked her into donning to gown and wig one last time. IT WAS AMAZING. Until you have had a Disney-trained princess at your party you have not had a princess party.
