DD10 has always been the hardest to buy for Im just looking for some ideas =)

She has an iPod Touch 32bg from last Christmas and will more than likely get iTune cards from family =)

Heres what I have so far:

American Girl Doll Cecile
Bike
Ipod Speakers

Thats it! I do not plan on buying additional American Girl stuff since her sisters will be getting the accessories and DD10 is more into having the doll as a collectable instead of actually playing with her.

She likes to read
Play on her ipod listening to music and watching movies
She loves crafts
She loves funky looking shoes (has way too many)

Dislikes anything too girly
Dislikes Pink anything
Dislikes Shopping (no gift cards)

Since she likes to read, I'd look into a Nook or Kindle.

Last year I filled a basket with "spa" items for DD12 - lots of nailpolishes, bath salts, etc. I also got her a foot spa. She loved it!

Or how about something like a bean bag chair or saucer chair? DD loves her saucer chair that her Aunt gave her a couple of years ago.

A lava lamp? Again, DD loves hers. She turns it on every evening, I have to turn it off when I go to bed.

Does she have a docking station for her iTouch?

Dd11 and dd9 got kindle fires last year, which they still use daily. Dd11 wants a certain pair of Uggs this year.

My daughter is 11 years old. She is getting some Abercrombie clothes, Uggs, Lego Friends sets, Cake Pop Maker, and maybe some Vera Bradley stuff. She has been tough to buy for too. I think it is the age!!

asked for one of those backrests for her bed.

Also "must haves" here are"
Uggs, Northface, phone, my kids like lava lamps too.. they have them at Target.

I also collect books all year from various sales so she has a new pile.

If she loves crafts how about some duct tape? DS is obsessed with it. Otherwise a latch hook kit, or cross-stitch maybe? DD got a chocolate mold making set one year that she loved.

I have a similar issue...down to the "no pink".

Last year i got my daughter a kindle & she loves it but she still loves her books. Stick with some of both-depending on what is allowed at school & camp. The biggest deal was a tracfone. She wanted an iPhone but w the replacement cost and data plan, monitoring etc I thought it was too much for 10 but the tracfone made her just as happy.

I probably am going to go the iTouch route this year.

:goodvibes DD10 has a beanbag from last Christmas maybe upgrading her to a new bigger one wouldnt be too bad =) She has 2 lava lamps. And she uses the Nook app and Kindle app on her iPod touch she hasnt mentioned upgrading. See what I mean this girl is hard =) We havent bought her toys since around 4 or 5 years old she has always been into other things really electronics. I am planning on a ipod dock =)

I really like the Spa Kit idea!! She LOVES Pedis!! And I considered Uggs she loves mine or better yet a pair of Toms thats more of her style.

She already knits & I am teaching her how to crochet would love to find her some other crafty things to do =)

My Mom normally buys them 4-5 outfits each which is plenty since my kids are in strict uniforms 5 days a week.

Keep ideas coming! I know im not the only one with a hard to buy for tween =)

My 10 year old wants walkie talkies for Christmas and the fortune cookie maker(walmart exclusive). princess:

My DD9 loves to help bake and cook so she will be getting some baking supplies. That age is really hard, they really don't want/need any more toys, but they are quite grown yet either. We are going on a cruise in January so I will probably give some cash for Christmas so she can go shopping on the islands.

* mini donut maker with recipe book: http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-FPSBD...F8&qid=1349319030&sr=8-2&keywords=donut+maker
* recipe book or two for the younger set -- maybe cooking could be her new "craft"! http://www.amazon.com/The-Silver-Sp...49319102&sr=8-1&keywords=italian+cooking+kids
* felted animals kit -- these are small and she could give them to her sisters to play with or gift them away; here's a kit http://www.amazon.com/Dimensions-Ne...349318592&sr=8-2&keywords=felting+animals+kit and here is a book on it http://www.amazon.com/Little-Felted...349318656&sr=8-1&keywords=felting+animals+kit
* basic cross-stitch or embroidery kit -- I got a sampler kit at that age and loved it.
* make your own birdhouse -- crafty AND it doesn't stay in your home!
* make your own notecards -- stamp set of some sort
* books -- Geronimo Stilton, Sisters Grimm, Chronicles of Narnia, The Little Princess
* shoe cubby or rack of some sort? Bonus points if it is funky too!

My DD who is 15 has gotten into the parachute cord bracelets and hemp/bead bracelets. She also made some rainbow braided ones from Pinterest. She has no idea what she wants for Christmas (and her birthday is 3 weeks later) but I mentioned a camera to her and she perked up a bit. She has a NorthFace, UGGS, Itouch and Tracfone already. Doesn't like Tom's :confused3 I think they're really cute. I refuse to get her an Iphone which she would flip for, but I'm not willing to pay the additional monthly costs for her, especially when driving school and car insurance are around the corner for us. She likes doing her nails (actually just used the Sally Hanson nail art tonight for first time, came out really cute). You can find them at 5Below for around $3, along with Nicole nail polish and sometimes Essie. I'd like to find her a nail dryer (fan type) since her's broke.

Have you heard of the Wreck this Journal series? She had some fun with that over the summer. I don't know where you live but we may be in for a messy winter, how about a snow tube (I bought the kids double inflatable ones last year since they love piling on friends).

Thinking about getting one of the Wreck this Journal books for my stepdaughter. Is any in the 'series' better than others?

For dd10...little things, but thinking about:

duck tape
pre-wrap (soccer) in multiple colors--they make them into headbands
Taylor Swift Album

She's saving for an ipod...so we'll see if she buys it by x-mas, if not..that's the big gift for sure. If she does, then some good head phones...(I know there is some trendy brand out there)

Uglies bathing suit (for swim team practice)....
Jewelry holder from Justice

My dd is very into Justice---she's in 5th grade which is still elementary here. The middle school seems to be into the Ambercrombie, Hollister, etc.---so I have one more year!

I'm not the OP but thanks for posting. I just checked these out and they are absolutely perfect for my dd!
I've been buying different duck tape (brand name) with my craft store 40% off coupons :) and I'm throwing them in a box with a couple idea books for her. She needs a creative outlet and until you posted I thought the tape would be a big hit for her, now I know it will be those journals. Thanks again :cool1:

OP, since you said she loves reading, what about a Kindle and Amazon GCs.
I always suggest a room make-over for that age group. New bedding and accessories if the ones they have now are more little girlish.

Wreck this Journal?? Someone tell me more please?? :goodvibes

We have a 5 below about an hour away that I forgot about until it was mentioned here!! Im going to have to make a trip there to stock up on goodies!

Im going to start buying duck tapes with 40% off coupons.

:cheer2:

I would love to find a nail dryer!!

I think Im going to add a Giftcard for Claires she loves accessories and thats the only store she will go into and browse!

An accessory holder/organizer would be awesome!! For hair ties, scarves, nail polishes, & belts. Hmmm..

Thanks for the tread. I am also struggling with gifts for my DD. She has only asked for an archery set (she's into the Hunger Games).

I like the Journal and duct tape ideas.

I was thinking about a crossbody purse. The Coach outlet has some deals where you can get them for around $50.

The Spa kit idea is good too.

DD12 is very crafty and doesn't like pink either so it's great to see these ideas. I'll definitely do the duck tape with coupons - thanks! Here are some favorite things that DD has gotten.

She has enjoyed her mini-cupcake maker and a few years ago, got the EZ Bake Decorator pen. It's easier than the traditional push to use frosting decorators. I'm thinking about looking for cooking lessons or a cake decorating class and give her that as a gift.

Sewing machine - DD took sewing in school and has made a ton of really cute strip pillows. She'll be getting a craft book with more ideas.

PP mentioned nail art. DD LOVES those! The french mani kits, the stick on decals, and the whole nail art stick on patterns - all very fun & she does them on her own.

DD has the light color changing ipod docking station and it's really pretty at night. It didn't get great reviews but thankfully has held up this year.

She also loves the house legos. They usually come 3-1 designs for a specific style of house. She wants the beach house this year.

Will be checking back to read everyone's ideas!

I just want to say thank you all so much for recommending the "Wreck This Journal" series. i've been spending time on amazon looking it up and it looks amazing!! I have never even heard of these before so I'm super excited about getting my DD a collection of books this Christmas. My difficulty will be restraining myself so I don't overdo it and overload her with way too many books.

Also, "Finish This Book" looks like it might possibly be super fun for my DS to do. I'm not sure if he would like it...as he does not like reading and writing, but it really looks like an intriguing way to get him to write.

Also, while looking up these books, I stumbled across a bunch of the American Girl books that include
- Oh Brother...Oh Sister (managing sibling relationships)
- Just Between Us (a journal for moms and daughters)

I'm particularly excited about the Mom and Daughter journal. That might prove to be an incredible amount of fun for us to do together and I bet my DD would absolutely adore it. I'd even like to do something like that with MY mom!
