Disney World Engagement

Ok, so I'm going to Disney World in December and am planning on proposing to my long time girlfriend. We're both really big Disney fans and go to Disney World all the time. I know she's not expecting it, so it's a little nerve wrecking for me but I'm having fun with it. I wanted to run my thoughts on this board and get some feedback before I commit to a plan.

As of right now, this is what I'm thinking... the first day we get there, we're going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, which I figure would be the perfect time to do it because the atmosphere and feel of the park is so magical. Beyond that, I don't know. I was thinking that I would like to do it earlier, as opposed to later in the night because if I wait until the fireworks at the end of the night, we might be tired and really wouldn’t be able to enjoy our engagement until the following day. Another thing that comes into play is where do I do it? Do I do it on a ride like Pirates or Peter Pan? That would be fun. Or do I do it in front of the castle (which will be lit up for Christmas with the lights) or the rose garden on the bridge headed towards Tomorrowland, where you have a perfect view of the castle where I can get a Disney photographer to capture the moment? Also, should I have Champagne and stuff in the room waiting for us when we get back? I’ve read that Disney can arrange that, especially if I give them a bottle and flowers when we check in. We are staying on property.

Any help / feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Congrats on the upcoming engagement. I wish I proposed at Disney, but we had our honeymoon there so it was just as good..

For me I would do it in front of the castle, get one of the Cast members to take your picture and right before they say cheese get down on one knee, that would you can have a picture of her reaction, which I am sure will be happy and thrilled. And it’s a picture you can have for ever.. you could even use it as the invites for the wedding too

Congratulations on your upcoming engagement!! I proposed to my Fiancé at the Magic Kingdom back in May. We're both big fans of traveling to Disney, so I figured proposing at Disney would add to our love for WDW! We will be Disneymooning at WDW next fall!!!

I went through the same thing you did trying to come up with the perfect plan and I will say that the plan worked out very well. We both had a very wonderful night! My Fiancé told me after that she had her suspicions about the proposal but I waited till our last night in WDW and she said by then she had talked herself out of it. When I did propose she was shocked!

I was quite surprised by Disney and how I didn't receive much help from them. When I called to receive assistance with the planning of our special moment, I was passed around a bit. I was given the run around and a lot of canned suggestions. I figured that engagements must happen so much there that it is old hat to them. Since our engagement occurred Disney has introduced a new special engagement package. I had also read about having a Disney Photopass photographer at your proposal to get pictures but when I tried to do this I was told they no longer schedule the photographers that way but to check the day of and see if they had the staff for it. The day came and I was told that they didn't have the staff that night. The guest relations staff at epcot was really nice and tried everything to get me a photographer; they even offered taking the pictures themselves!! I didn't take them up on that but was able to discreetly slip a cast member my camera and he got some pictures of the moment! Disney does have a florist and gift department that will deliver gift baskets and flowers to your room and they do a great job.

Where you chose to propose is up to you! If you two are private people, Main Street USA may not be the best place to do it. If you want a big audience and lots of people around then it would be great. If there is a ride that is special to you then that may be a great spot. There are plenty of great spots at Disney and Magic Kingdom to propose. It made it a hard choice for me!! I do agree with doing it earlier in the evening so that you can enjoy it!

My Proposal:

I planned a special dinner for our last night in WDW at Citricos in the Grand Floridian. We got dressed up and when we arrived at the Magic Kingdom to take the monorail to GF, I suggested we go inside the park and have some pictures taken in front of the castle when we were all dressed up. We then made our way up Main Street and had our picture taken all the way up to the castle. I then suggested we have our picture taken at the Cinderella wishing well. (It is next to the castle, off the main path. It still has some people at it but it's a bit more private.) On the way to the wishing well I saw a cast member walking towards me and discreetly filled him in. He took my camera and made his way up to the well. As we were at the well, I began to recite the proposal I had memorized and then I popped the question. As I was proposing the CM was taking pictures the entire time. After I proposed there was a great applause from a small crowd that had gathered! We then made our way to Dinner. (After stopping to get Just Engaged pins and having our picture taken in front of the castle as an engaged couple) When we arrived at dinner the menu had congratulations and our names on it. They brought us champagne and we had an amazing time. When we got back to the resort, we entered the room to find sparkling cider, Mickey champagne flutes and a path of rose petals from the door to the bed. On the bed was a heart shape arranged in rose petals. (The rose petals I arranged, the cider and flutes were arranged by the Magic Kingdom staff!!) We had a great night and can't wait for our Disneymoon!!

If you have any questions or need any other info feel free to ask!!

That sounds awesome. I'm curious, how did you arrange the cider and rose pedals to be there when you got back?

Thanks!

The rose petals I arranged, the cider was arranged by Disney! If you're not fortunate enough to have Disney do something special like that for you, you can also arrange cider or champagne from the same place that I got the rose petals from. A lot of it is set up in packages but you can custom order as much or as little of it as you'd like. Here is the link!

I agree with the above poster- it depends on your personalities and if your fiance will want the attention- if yes, Cinderella's castle for sure. If no, I'd find a spot somewhere within the park to do it. I'd try to still be somewhere with a photopass photographer if you can! Around Christmas time, or I think all the time actually, to the left facing the Castle is the Christmas store and there's a little red sleigh there- you could climb in the sleigh to take a picture and do it there?? Do you definitely want to do it in the MK? Good luck! :goodvibes

I don't think we'd want too much attention but it would be nice to have a photo taken in the moment. I really want to do it on our first night, which is the night we're going to be at the Christmas party in MK.

Also, whats the best way to get the ring into the park without the bag checkers blowing it for me? (Im taking a little bookbag)

Awww congratulations :) My DBF proposed to me in front of the castle during PM EMH only a few weeks ago. The park was pretty empty (he knew I'm not big on being the centre of attention so doing it during the day time was a no go!) so it was an ideal time.

He said he contacted Disney Florist and arranged for the champagne and chocolates to be collected from reception when we arrived back from MK (they wouldn't deliver to the room as someone needed to be in to sign for it). They were lovely and came on a mickey head shaped plate and basket with glasses with mickey heads on them :)

Hope it all goes well for you, whatever you decide to do I'm sure it'll be perfect :goodvibes

(I'm now stalking the wedding boards and trying to get DBF to agree to a Disney wedding:lmao:)

I proposed in December at Disney last year. If you have a little money to spend I would definitely look into doing Cinderella's Royal Engagement. It's dinner in the castle. They seat you near the window, bring out your meal, then after you eat they bring out another covered platter and set it in front of your girlfriend and tell her "Cinderella has prepared something special just for you". The whole time this is going down a photographer snaps pictures as they lift the lid. Inside the dish is filled with red rose petals and on top of the petals is a glass slipper with your engagement ring inside. I booked a time close to when Wishes starts and sure enough right after the proposal we watched Wishes from our table inside the castle. I can't describe how beautiful it actually was. The cost was a little over $300 but it's worth every penny. If this interests you I can did through my emails to see if I still have the info and I can send it to you. Best wishes.
