Um, Where's the Ice?! - A July 2012 European and DLRP Adventure*UPDATE 12/15 Pg.29*

Yeah! You have arrived. :cool1:

I love the hotel. It's pretty cute.

That castle is stunning.

I am reading another DLP TR and they just posted a picture of the ice rink in winter.

Your dad - :rotfl2: He's either asleep or really excited! Love it!

The hotel was pretty nice. They're not as extravagant at the hotels at WDW, but very nice.

My Dad operates at two speeds....nonexistent.....and crazy. :rotfl2:

Joining in and catching up!

Your Dad is like my Momma sleeps anywhere!

How cool to get a free upgrade on the flight as well. :thumbsup2

:welcome: Glad you're here.

My Dad is ridiculous with sleeping. He can sleep anywhere and he can fall asleep in like five minutes. I just don't understand it. I wish I could do that. LOL.

The upgrade was a very nice touch on the start of the trip.

Yay you're there :cool1:

I love how whimsical the castle is too - I think DLP looks like the most beautiful park and I can't wait to see it :thumbsup2 Luckily I don't have to wait too long now :rotfl:

Love the pics of the Hotel NY too, especially the one of you guys in the taxi :lmao: We're really hoping to go ice-skating there on our trip - if we do I'll definitely post pics :thumbsup2 Your room looks great too!

zanzibar138 - looking forward to your future TR as hoping to get to DLP Sept-ish 2013. Be fun to read an Australian's take on it and how you find it compares. I still can't decide if to stay off-site or blow the $ for on-site-the lack of tea and coffee facilities in the on-site hotels puts us off (silly I know for such a small thing but we like our cuppas when we wake up and before bed).

IheartDDuck-been reading avidly along for some time-love your writing and have gone off to read some of your earlier TR too.

Wow, never seen the Disney Paris hotel before! How lovely!
Seeing the pictures leading into the park I was getting chills, I loved it there and I was getting flashbacks!
I agree, the Paris castle is the prettiest. I took so many pictures of it.
Your dad is the best, I love his excited expressions!

Wow, awesome pictures of the hotel and the castle at DLP! I am like a couple other posters in that I know pretty much nothing about DLP. Can't wait to see more!

Yay! Disneyland Paris! I love the castle, so beautiful! I bet lit up at night, it's stunning! (I'm still baffled at the fact I was in Paris and did not go )
The hotel looks great, love the Mickey head comforter!

That's what I love about it too, and the whimsical trees they put around it too. You'll have such a great time! Definitely link me to your TR if you plan on doing on so I can see! :goodvibes

Thanks! I'm glad that you enjoy it. And I know what you mean about wanting / needing coffee. There is a Starbucks in the DTD area though too. It doesn't satisfy the upon wake up before bed, but there's coffee close by.

My Dad constantly looks either excited or asleep. I think it's the two speeds that he has. :rotfl2: I'm glad that it brought back memories. I try to pick out the photos that are best, rather than just posting everything that I have. :lmao: Because then it would go on forever.

I can't wait to tell everyone about it and advise on my opinions.

You know, the first time we went to Paris we did go, but I was so overwhelmed by Paris and everything else that we missed so much at DLP. You have to be willing to spend time there.

Not silly at all! That was one of Mum's top considerations when booking our hotels (unfortunately though I wasn't willing to spend an extra $100 a night for it lol!). I mainly chose off-site so that Dad wouldn't be too overwhelmed by being completely surrounded by Disney the whole time :lmao:

I will definitely be doing a TR. I have discovered since joining the DIS that doing a TR gives me something to look forward to when I get home :rotfl:

The off-site / on-site debate is always tough. I'm telling you, if we had to pay out of pocket for the room, we likely would not have been staying on-site.

That's the best thing about the DIS! It keeps the time between trips a little easier to handle, because you get to live vicariously through other people's trips and reminiscing about your own!

Hi :wave2:

Joining in. I'm so glad I found this trippie. I'm moving to Germany for a job in a month or so, I'll be there at least 3 years. I'm originally from London.

I am excited as we will be about a 3 1/2 hour drive to DLP. And Hubby thought this would be the end of my Disney adiction :rotfl2: Though once he found out they have a golf course he was OK. ;)

Loving your report. I need all the tips I can get. I know WDW like the back of my hand.

That's awesome that you are moving to Germany! You'll be able to be within driving distance of DLP so you can keep your addiction going. :lmao:

I'll try to keep the tips going if I can. :thumbsup2

You will love Disneyland Paris. It is one of my favorite parks to visit too. I love WDW and Disneyland naturally but Disneyland Paris has a special place in my heart too

Thanks - though it does seem strange that I could be in a Disney Park and it be cold enough to ice skate and need my thermals  I see you're in Illinois too :wave2:

IheartDDuck - I'm looking forward to my European breakfasts

Loving your TR so far !! How exciting !! And how wonderful to be staying with family and learning a new language. I love your DLP pics. That castle is epic !! Can't wait to see more !!

That one thing about the cold is a little strange.

She never introduces herself, but DVCWDWMEMBER is actually my Mom. So we're all in the same area. Well, not much longer for you though!

European breakfast is just the best. I was so happy eating that every day.

That castle is definitely the best one I think.

It was really nice staying with family for the majority of the trip. Makes you feel so much at home.

How nice to have family in Belgium and such hospitable ones at that...:goodvibes It's great that you were able to stay with them... I think knowing someone from the country just adds such a depth to it...

We were really lucky to be in Paris once when my friend was traveling there as well and we got to have lunch with her Aunt and Uncle and Cousins... and it was absolutely one of my favorite parts of the trip... it was also nice to be able to dust off my high school/college French and use it... it seemed the more wine consumed the more fluent I became...:rotfl2: but seriously it is really nice to be able to communicate-even a little- in another language...

(As much as I love my country and am deeply grateful to be American...it really annoys me that some people just think everyone else in the rest of the world should speak English...:rolleyes2)

Speaking of European breakfasts (of which I am also a fan ... good coffee and a little bread and cheese -its all good) we were in a little tea salon on the Ile St. Louis in Paris and a large, loud American man comes in with his wife booming in English "What time do you all open for breakfast?" The owner who was an attractive, petite middle aged women who was also waiting tables rushed over to the door and tried to explain in English that they didn't really open till lunch and then served tea and pastries in the afternoon-they did not serve breakfast but he could get croissants and coffee at the cafe down the street for breakfast if he wished. He left rather disgruntled complaining loudly about "not being able to get any solid bacon and eggs breakfast in this country"... Um... I'm sorry, why did you come to France if just to eat an American breakfast and bellow at people in English... you've could have easily done that at home and for free too...:confused3 Isn't the whole point of traveling to another country to experiences it's culture... something different than at home?

Ahhh that castle at DLP...:goodvibes I think although the 3 that I've seen (MK, DL & DLP) are lovely that one in Paris is extraordinary...:cloud9:

I love the how they interpreted the New York theme in the hotel... looks like a great place to stay... I'd like to at least stay over night next time versus daytripping from Paris...

Loving this TR...:surfweb:

Oh PS... I think you should have your Tips for International Travelers published...;)

It definitely was nice to have family along. You're right, it does add depth to the trip, because they will take you to places that you would typically never think of.

Hahaha, or perhaps the more wine you consumed, the more fluent you THOUGHT you became. :lmao: Because that would totally be me.

(As much as I love my country and am deeply grateful to be American...it really annoys me that some people just think everyone else in the rest of the world should speak English...:rolleyes2)

This is seriously one of my pet peeves in life. I'm completely surprised at how many people speak english fluently, but not in a bad way. The other people that think people should just know english are just stupid.

Oh my goodness, that's crazy! I had a similar experience, but it was actually in WDW.

So we were eating dinner at the restaurant in the France pavilion, and this couple was sitting next to us talking about their trips to Paris. And the guy was completely obnoxious saying "you know, they get all huffy if all you want to do is go to a restaurant and have coffee and dessert....I mean, that's all I want....coffee and dessert. Why on earth do they get so bent out of shape about it....blah blah blah", to which my Mom said "well, being as though I'm from Europe, it's because restaurants are for eating long good meals. Cafes are for coffee and dessert. You just don't do that there. You're wasting the servers time". It was awesome! :rotfl:

I love the Paris one for sure. It's just so unique and beautiful.

I'll consider publishing my tips for International travelers. ;) That would be cool. But I'm not sure anyone would buy it. :lmao:

Just so everyone knows, the rooms get smaller in line with prices, which is why HNY is 2nd biggest rooms after Disneyland Hotel (you gets what you pays for:rolleyes2)

The castle is the le Chateau de la Belle aux Bois Dormants (or Sleeping Beauty's Castle in English)

I notice you also had Speculos spread available - my DSis and I always stock up on that in Belgium or NL as we can't get it here;)
