Are they going to finally do it? Fix the Yeti!

While I would love to see the Yeti, I hope EE isn't closed for refurb in June 2013. We love riding it and would be so sad to miss it :sad1:

that's when we're going to..... I know a DH and a DD that would be very bummed if that ride was closed when we're there! :sad1:

I am sorry to all of those that dont want EE closed when they are there... I haven't rode EE for 3-4 years, (and have been atleast a half a dozen times in that time period), because of the Yeti. I rode it during AP preview, when yeti was fully working, I rode it the following November when it had a cable attached to his arm... but still worked. When it went to strobe lights its SO SAD, its like half the ride is gone. I just see no reason to ride it without the yeti, there are plenty of better coasters without animatronics, at Busch, Universal, etc, elsewhere.

StitchKingdom is reporting construction permits were filed for Expedition Everst this morning, will we finally see some life breathed back into lifeless Betty the Yeti?
Anyone got anymore info?

EE being down for any amount of time could cause some headaches touring wise at AK but would be so worth it IMO to see the Yeti restored to it's original working state.

Hopefully this is true because I really do miss the Yeti! Guess now we have an extra day to go to MK instead of going to AK while EE is down.

I should hope they fix the Yeti, and it should remind us as Bob Barker told us to spade and nueter all your pets.
We can not afford to have Cats Dogs and especially Yeti's running all over the place.

sorry, just had to say it.

But seriously I cant imagine that ride without a working Yeti

That darn creature has been broken for so many years that I can't imagine there are that many people who have actually seen it working. :confused3

True! I was lucky enough to ride it the first week it opened so was able to enjoy all the effects. I went back down there just a few months later and was so sad to see several already broken (the fog, the bird that rises on the stick, and of course Betty the Yeti no longer swooping down). Now the bird sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't, but I haven't seen the heavy fog or Betty swooping down since that first trip (and I go to WDW 4-6 times a year).

When I rode it last month (first week of Sept) I used the single rider line and rode next to a guy who had never ridden it. As we got off, he made the comment that he didn't see a yeti, other than the shadow on the cave wall. He had completely missed her standing on her ledge. When the ride first opened, there was no way to miss her swooping down toward the car, unless you had your eyes closed. While I was waiting in the single rider line, I asked the CM if there were any plans to fix the Yeti and he told me no, that it would be too expensive and too time consuming to fix her, plus there was really no way to fix her. She's too heavy for the ledge she is sitting on and makes the ride too unstable when she swings her weight forward to swipe at the cars. He said she had cracked her ledge the first month or two that the ride was operational. That part of the ride just wasn't made well.

You all do realize that to fix the Yeti, they would basically have to dismantle the majority of the mountain, right? I could care less whether they fix it or not (we're not big on AK), but that would be significant downtime for the biggest ride there while they fix something that is not crucial to the ride working. I hope it happens for the fans, but I can't see it happening because of those reasons.

It would be easier to build a new yeti and put it in a new location.

The Yeti will be fixed when the accountants decide it is worth the money to fix it, plain and simple.

It is completely a monetary thing. If it worked at the beginning it can work now but they don't want to spend the money to fix it. There is no other reason.

I was lucky enough to have gone about a month after it opened, so I actually did get to see the Yeti! It's not just a myth...it really does exist!! :yay: And it scared the crud out of me! I do miss it... it really did add alot to that ride.

I love EE, but I honestly don't care whether or not the Yeti is working. You see it for a few seconds and then you're gone. I've ridden EE both pre and post a working Yeti. I couldn't tell the difference :confused3. The dates of when it went down, and people here on the Dis, are the only way I have of knowing that it was working the first time I rode it. I know it matters to a lot of people, and I wouldn't really be upset if they decided to close EE to try and fix the Yeti, but I personally would rather Disney spend the money else where. HS could use a healthy dose of TLC.:)

I've also ridden pre and post and the only time it bugs me that the Yeti is crippled is when I watch one of those Disney documentaries on the Travel Channel or wherever in which they tout this feature and show it working. I know it's not Disney itself promoting a false feature, but it's still irritating.

Are you SURE it was working the first time you saw it?

It's been my experience that people who recently "saw a working Yeti" realize they were mistaken when they watch footage of the Yeti actually in "A mode".

When people say "I think it was working", my response is "if it was working, there would be no doubt in your mind".

:thumbsup2 Agree. Very few people that saw B Mode Yeti realize that was not what it was supposed to be. Alot of times someone will say I saw it work in X Month and Year. Umm no you didn't. You thought you saw it. If you did see true full working A mode you know the difference. Even after all these years I can still remember how much better it was and when I ride EE now it makes me sad when I realize most of those on my train never saw what it was intended to be.
