Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek Tour

I just booked the Wild Africa Trek Tour at Animal Kingdom.

My friend and I love the safari, this looks like fun. Has anyone been on it? What did you think?

I did it solo in May 2012. I really enjoyed it and would do it again.

A couple of things you will need to know:

You can't bring anything in your pockets including no spare camera batteries or spare SDHC cards for your camera so make sure it's fully charged and you have a card with plenty of space. If you have a fancy camera with lenses that can be changed, you can't bring extra lenses along. Only the one attached to the camera can go.

Your camera needs to be able to either go around your neck or be attached to your vest.

Make sure you wear closed toe shoes.

Your items like a backpack or bag of any kind along with the stuff from your pockets will go into an individual locker with a lock so they will be safe while you are on the trek.

And the most important tip: Have fun!

Thanks! Yes, the CM was VERY specific to those things when I booked my tickets. Did you enjoy your photo CD? were they pictures of just you or others in your group? were there stock photos in it as well? I purchased my photopass disc for my trip so these pictures are just a bonus.

I can't remember exactly but I think about $189 a person? They have a special for the month of October that they are giving $50 off each person for every tour after 11:15. I will promise to post a review when I get back.

There were pictures of everyone in the group as well as some of just me. And lots of pictures of the animals we saw too. One of the guides primarily took pictures while the other did most of the talking.

The pictures are great to have. The pictures for the trek are seperate from the regular photopass that you can buy.

About a month after the trek, you will receive the photopass CD of the pictures taken on the trek sent to your house. That is included in the cost of the trek.

When I showed my family the pictures of the rope bridges they couldn't believe I walked over them. I was very glad the guide took pictures of us actually walking over the bridges so I could prove I did it.
I talked about the trek so much at home afterwards that my teenage son wants to do it now. LOL

thanks! it sounds great! I think I will be in the same position as you! I will be returning to WDW in January with my DD and animal kingdom is her favorite park. I believe I will be repeating this tour!

I took the trek in December of 2012 and had a great time. They give you a cool metal waterbottle that you carry in your vest/safety harness. Ham it up with the pictures, ask for whatever you want (they are constantly shooting). It is included! As PP mentioned, one CD for everyone (think photoshare).

One of my favorite parts was the lunch. I loved lounging with my cousin and exploring the bento box goodies. I suggest that when you arrive at the lunch spot, b-line it to whatever table floats your boat and drop off your camera/claim your spot. I loved sitting right on the edge.

Oh...I was a little evil too. I crossed the big bridge before my cousin and at the end (when she was halfway across, you go essentially one at a time), I bounced the bridge (checked with guide first). She was looking over the side, not paying attention...and then WHOAAA. It is perfectly safe.

They also offered bug spray when we started, wasn't a problem. Have fun!

So cool! Thanks! thanks for the tips! This vest safety harness you wear... there are pockets in it for cell phone/and or camera? i know CM said they need to be attached to you but it will make it much easier knowing this vest has pockets to just place the stuff in. TIA!

We went on the Trek last Tuesday. It was wonderful. I was a bit worried, but I had a blast.
The safety vests do have pockets, but cell phones are not allowed. They have to be placed in the lockers. NOTHING in your pockets and they are very serious about it. You need to be able to give up your electronics for 3 hours. A camera is allowed only if it has a strap around your neck or it can be thethered to the vest. DH has an Epi Pen for emergencies and the guide carried that for us.

Per a guide who was at our party this past Friday Night . . .
1) They do 3-5 tours per day, based upon demand.
2) The lunch "tin" comes from Tusker House kitchens.
3) $189+tax

just got home last night.

we took our tour on thursday, the weather was PERFECT! we took a 1:15 tour with the discount and saw many animals. the hippos were amazing! I loved the extra time with the animals.

the "trek" part was light walking.. up and down small hills with roots sticking out of the ground but not long, long walking and fun! the bridge was fantastic as was the truck tour and the light lunch/snacks. so beautiful!

can't wait to get my photos. the tour guides were wonderful as expected from anything Disney. great experience if you love the safari!
