StitchKingdom is reporting construction permits were filed for Expedition Everst this morning, will we finally see some life breathed back into lifeless Betty the Yeti?
Anyone got anymore info?

EE being down for any amount of time could cause some headaches touring wise at AK but would be so worth it IMO to see the Yeti restored to it's original working state.

I have a little tear of joy in my eye! :goodvibes If this is true, this would be BIG NEWS!!!! Fingers crossed!

Sooner or later all attractions go down for refurb, let's hope Disney spends some of the $$ they're getting from $8 pints at the R&C to make the beast healthy whenever EE gets its cleaning.

I don't know. We get charged $9+ for a 16 oz. can of domestic beer at a St. Louis Rams game and they still are looking for public money to upgrade their stadium.

I suffered the Everest ride just to see the yeti(I do not do rollercoasters). My DD assured me that the inside of the mountain was awesome and so was the yeti, so I went on the ride and suffered, but nooooooo Yeti! Then some CM tells me that Mr. Yeti has been broken since basically day 1! So, if they actually fix him I will ride one more time in honor of the fix! (but that's all my nerves can take!) My DD will be thrilled.:cheer2:

What, you don't smuggle brewskies in a reversable jacket? In my misspent youth I used to get 18 cans into the Syracuse Dome on our yearly game trip.

The only thing I can find says they actually filed paperwork for EE (and others) about a month ago, on Aug. 8, 2012. (HERE.)
(And, it may have nothing to do with the Yeti, but instead, FastPass+.)

Is there a link to the StitchKingdom info?

An EE refurb during my trip dates might be enough to make me postpone or at minimum make another US sidetrip.

I realize every ride needs to be down for refurb periodically, but WDW is woefully short on great thrill rides.

I've never seen a working Yeti, and it's only speculation that this would be the reason for the permit, but it's a great ride without it so I wouldn't be a fan of taking the ride offline for any extended period of time to fix it.

If they were just shutting down to fix the yeti, they could have done so anytime over the last 5 years, or so.

Waiting for a needed shutdown for major coaster refurb (and, taking that time to also fix the yeti) would make a lot of sense.

However, we don't know anything at all at this point, anyway.

it came across his twitter feed:

I was so blown away by the possiblity that I forgot to put it in the original post.

The mysterious covered sticks showed up mid/late August at EE I'm guessing that was the plus construction.

~Thanks for the update. I agree with PIRATEGIRL007, I think Disney is going to fix the Yeti, at the same they can take care of the FP+ stuff. Disney hasn't filed construction permits for all the other FP+ enhanced queues. I don't see why this one would be any different. Anyway, it's so exciting. :goodvibes

I remember it was broken back in 2009.

Here is the rumor I heard:

That the Yeti hasn't been fixed because there is a piece that they cannot get because the company they need it from went out of business. Remember, it was just a rumor I heard. Take it at just that, just a rumor. :)

Yes thats one of the standard rumors, but any part or its equivalent should be able to be sourced from another supplier or made by any machine shop.

The most popular is that they didn't build its foundation properly and to fix it they have to remove the Yeti, which I'm not sure they thought they would ever have to do so its not going to be easy or quick.

One fix rumor was that they were looking to "puppet" it from above like a Muppet with rods, that would take some of the stress off the base.

And if Expedition Everest goes down, I want to start a pool on the number of posts after the initial announcement before someone says "my trip is RUINED!" (I want the number 3).

Disney - damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Meh, not enough here for me to assume that Betty is the target. Either standard refurb work or some kind of NextGen work is my bet.

The only time it makes sense to go there is during a pre-planned extended refurb, which I admit probably won't be too far in the future.

I wouldn't expect any Yeti work until Avatarland is up and running, so let's say 2015 at the absolute earliest.

You may have a very L - O - N - G wait for Avatarland.

I hope this is true. We were lucky enough to see the Yeti working on our first trip as a family and it was awesome. DS was 6 at the time and he wasn't nearly as big of a fan. :)

Selfishly I hope its done by the end of May or not started yet because DD is finally ready to ride EE on our next trip.
