The Guarantee / GTY stateroom anticipation/discussion thread!

I booked a 5E gty for the March 16, 2013 cruise on Fantasy this past April and was assigned one mid September! I am so happy! There is no where else I would rather be!!:)

Ooh, I can join this now! We downgraded so now we're 9D GTY for our Dec 6, 2012 Dream cruise. Those 9D corner rooms look so spacious, I don't mind the low ceilings and obstructed view, DS5 will love having the ceiling his height. Of course I won't argue with a pixie dust upgrade if we get one either! :cool1: Still 71 days out and our cruise is pretty empty so I think it'll be a while before we find out our room number!

Fantasy 7 Night Western Caribbean, sailing November 10th 2012. Booked cat 9D GTY and got our cabin number Sunday just gone (Sept 23rd), got upgraded to a cat 5D!!! Delux Oceanview with veranda!

So happy! :wizard:

Can someone please tell me how this works and where you go to on the DCL site to book like this? Keep seeing posts about it, but have no clue how it works. Thanks!

So lets say you want to cruise Dec 8th on the Fantasy. You want a Cat 5E. You click to choose your stateroom & a message appears that says the category is in guarantee status. You have 2 options: choose guarantee or cancel. If you choose guarantee, you will be assigned the 5E or higher category (nothing lower). This is in lieu of choosing your specific room. You may very well get a room in the category you booked, or you may get assigned a higher category. It's up to DCL.

I logged in to our Thanksgiving cruise on the Magic yesterday to see if I would have issues w/ that booking like I was having issues w/ our Med. Cruise booking for next summer & I just happened to notice we'd been assigned our stateroom for that Turkey cruise. We booked a 9D GTY and were given a 9C right across the hall from the 3 staterooms that are linked to our reservation (and they chose their rooms from the get-go). So that was nice that DCL took our linked staterooms into consideration when assigning our stateroom. :thumbsup2

Ok...so why do people do this? Do you get a cheaper price?

No, not a cheaper price, but there is a chance (and often a good chance) of getting a better cabin type than what the GTY booking was. So say you book an inside stateroom that is GTY. You keep an eye on your sailing and notice that no insides seem to open up, but there are many ocean views available. Therefore, there is a good chance that when the room assigners start assigning for this specific cruise, those that booked the inside GTY will get pixiedust: pixie dusted to an ocean view cabin, thus getting a better stateroom for no more money.

Hope that explains it for you! :thumbsup2

Wow!! Now I see....Sounds like a good deal if you are not real picky. How far in advance can you do this?

For the regular guarantee status, you can do it whenever it is offered. When selecting your cabin category, be sure to select your own room. When trying to do that, if no rooms are available, they will tell you that category is on guaranteed status and you can opt to select the guarantee status or switch categories and select a specific stateroom (for either more or less money depending on if you move down or up the category chain). Whenever we've selected a regular guarantee status, we've almost always been given a better category of stateroom. Now that said, it may not be a jump from inside to ocean view or verandah or ocean view to verandah, but it could be a better deck within the same type of categories (insides, ocean views or verandahs).

HTHs! :thumbsup2

Finally - 50 days out we received our assignment. We had GTY of 9D and that is what we got, however ours is the corner accessible room so it should be larger!

Wonder what happens if someone needs an accessible room last minute? Guess they just might change us?
:cheer2:

i had 9d gty and got a 9d corner room as well, they look great lots of floor space! :thumbsup2

So is this "guaranty" the best way to go if you are kind of booking "late" and a bit stunned by the price?

I see a few people mentioning booking 9D rooms, is that a good choice for some reason? I am totally and completely new to cruising so I have NO IDEA what kind of room to look for, or anything at all!!

9d rooms are usually the lowest priced cat when they are all available. From playing around with different sailings and room cats it seems like they are almost always gty as well. There are 11 cat 9d rooms and 6 of them are corner rooms which are listed as the same square footage as all other rooms, but by reports they have about twice the square footage in floor space. They do have a slant to the ceiling and the window is not large and no privacy curtain and a different layout than most rooms. But they are still great, all are in the very front of the ship on decks 6, 7, and 8. Check out deck plans below. Just remember when booking a gty room that you might get the cat you booked, not always upgraded:thumbsup2

For me, it was a price I was willing to pay for a category that sounded good. And I'm not picky.

But I have been having some HYSTERICAL dreams about the fact that I don't have a room assignment. And there's over 100 days until my cruise. Yeah.

We booked GTY because that was all that was available to us as DVC members when we booked. I was planning on getting an inside room originally, but this worked out in our favor cause we have a port hole. Our room is a handicap room so I know we will have lots of space.

We booked a GTY 11A room and ended up with a handicap accessible room in that same category. We do not have anyone in our party that needed the accessibility, but I guess that was what the ship had left for our October 21st sailing! I can't wait to see the Dream again.
