We Went to See Mic-key M-o-u-s-e ... Again! - Sept '12 TR [COMPLETE]

Oh my goodness!! I can just picture your husband coming unglued!! LOL!! I love the put the ECV on rabbit and run comment!! Is it bad that I'm laughing hysterically at that one? LOL!!

I had a feeling that was what was up with the ac. It happens to us every time we turn on our ac after the winter or the heater after the ac has been on all winter. Sometimes it's so bad that I have to leave the house. The first time it happened I swore that the house had caught fire. LOL!!

I'm still laughing at the picture that you painted of your DH.... :rotfl::rotfl2:

Can't wait for more!! LOL!!

:teeth: :rotfl: Seriously, he was pushing, pushing, PUSHING me to go faster! You'll find out why in just a minute ... ;)

Monday, September 17 (continued)

After we get off the bus, I start tooling around on the ECV, heading back to our building. My husband starts herding me towards the path down by the Sassagoula River. Ahhh, how romantic, I think ... he wants to go down by the river and sit for a while! :lovestruc

Not so! We get to the river path, and he looks at his watch and goes, "I want to go over to Riverside and check the place out." Ummm, really? So I say to him, "Why do we have to go over there our first night? Can't that wait? I want to see French Quarter at night before we go exploring over there." :confused3

"NO! It CAN'T wait!" he practically shouted. "We have to HURRY!" Meanwhile, he reaches over and cranks the ECV back up to "rabbit" and says, "In fact, we have to RUN!"

So off we go again at top speed. We reach the bridge between the two resorts and I hear him mumble under his breath "we're half way there". I asked him how he knew that if he'd never been there before. He mumbled that he had asked someone at French Quarter. Yeah, right! :p

Meanwhile, he's basically at a slow run trying to keep up with me on the ECV. I ask him where he wants to go (since he obviously had something in mind) and he said, "Just keep rolling until I tell you to stop." He was being so gruff I was very nearly ready to just turn around and roll myself back over to French Quarter without him!

We rounded the corner by the surrey bike rentals and I thought AHA! THIS is my surprise! I slow down, only to realize the rental shop was locked up tight - they had stopped renting bicycles hours ago. :confused3 "KEEP GOING!" was my husband's stern command from behind me.

By now, I was furious! :furious: "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP YELLING AT ME?!?" I asked him. And then, I see it ... my surprise is waiting right there ...

He was taking me on a horse-drawn carriage ride. :lovestruc

I turned around and looked at my husband, and all the feelings of anger melted away. There he was sweaty, and red-faced from trying to keep up with me and make it to our 8:00 p.m. reservation. He ran ahead of me and asked the driver if we were too late - turned out if we had been 5 minutes more, she would have taken one of the people waiting without a reservation.

No wonder he was so antsy about not being able to get the boat back to French Quarter. No wonder he got so ticked off when the driver made another round through DTD. Now everything was making sense. Now I knew why we had to be in such a hurry. ::yes:: Turns out, my husband had originally scheduled this ride for 8:30, but had rescheduled it for 8:00 to try and catch the sunset. Unfortunately, 8:00 was still too late for sunset on this evening.

Getting into the carriage was a challenge on the crutches, I'm not going to lie. But soon he and I were settled into the comfy bench seat behind our two drivers, and were on our way for a romantic carriage ride.

Doug was our horse, and he was in no hurry to go anywhere! The drivers had to keep reminding him to "step-up". We asked what that meant, and they explained basically it's telling him to get moving! They told us if we had any questions at all to feel free to ask.

We plodded along at a slow pace, past Riverside and French Quarter down by the Sassagoula River. It was so romantic - all the buildings were beautifully lit. Many people waved to us as we went by, and many women looked wistfully at their husbands as if to say, "That could be us!" ::yes::

Halfway through this romantic ride, my husband turned to me and slipped a ring on my right hand. It was a sterling silver silhouette of a Mickey head. "Hope you are enjoying your surprise!" he said slyly. Oh I was, I definitely was!! :teeth: :lovestruc

Like all good things, the ride was over all too soon. Before I knew it, we were headed back over to French Quarter. We stopped in the food court and picked up a snack (click for review), then headed back to our room to retire for the night.

Up next ... Day 2! Go Away, Rain! :crazy2:

Awe!!! So sweet! I feel so bad that he had so stress so bad in the beginning. I'm so glad it all worked out though. Sounds amazing. I hope you got some pictures girlie. :)

Reading through your PTR and two cliff hanger version of your TR definitely made it worth it for your big reveal of the SURPRISE!!! How awesome!!! What a terribly fun and romantic thing for him to do. And the ring, that will be a forever reminder of the moment!!! Despite the stress to make it there, I am so glad that worked out!!! :goodvibes

:faint:

(That's a "swoon from the awesomeness," btw. ;) )

Man, and here I thought the carriage ride by itself was totally romantic! :thumbsup2

I wouldn't have seen the envious looks, because I would have been too teary eyed. Or at least, I'm teary eyed reading it. :) And here you said you didn't have much of a trip report to offer. This is great stuff. :goodvibes

:lovestruc What a great surprise!!! How nice with the ring and everything!! :cloud9: Too bad it had to be so stressful and rushed before!! :lmao: I can just picture it too! Me and DBF would have been the same way! Freaking out getting in a horrible mood, snapped at eachother, thinking we were going to miss it and then the whole thing would be ruined!! Glad you guys made it in time and everything was magical!! pixiedust:

That is an awesome surprise!! I love the carriage rides and to have him give you something so perfect just makes it even better!!

I did get some photos, but they're night ones, so they all stink. :crazy2: Have I mentioned how much I hate our new camera?

I had to do this as a cliff-hanger ... it's the only really interesting thing I have to report on for the whole week! :lmao:

Awww thanks. It was a complete surprise, I had no idea. Still have no idea how he pulled it off without blabbing it to me. I don't have much more to offer for the remainder of the TR, though, so I hope you got your fill of "interesting" because this is pretty much it!

Thank you! It was fun and really sweet. ;) He's not known for being overly-romantic, so he definitely went all out with this trip!

It was pretty much perfect! I enjoyed it so much and would recommend it to anyone - definitely worth the money (whatever he paid, I have no clue LOL). :teeth:

Tuesday, September 18th

We woke up today and practically leapt out of bed. We planned to have brunch at the resort, then hang out until time to go to MNSSHP where we had an early ADR at LTT before the party began. You know what they say about the best laid plans? :confused3

We got up so early we couldn't wait until lunchtime to eat, so we headed down to Sassagoula's for breakfast (click for review). We also picked up a snack from Sassagoula's (click for review) for my husband to take back to the room. By now, it had started raining.

It rained. It poured. It thundered. For hours. :crazy2: We sat in the room and watched TV and wondered if we should even bother getting tickets for the party. Going out and having it rain on you is one thing. Going out intentionally in the rain is completely another matter for us. We knew there was another party on Friday, so we sat around and debated for the longest time about whether or not to go. :confused3

I knew we were supposed to meet up with fellow DISer Scuba, so I called him to see what their thoughts were on the party being that it was still pouring rain. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get ahold of him ... I have no idea whether he and his family ended up going to the party or not. :confused3

In the end, my husband and I decided not to go. It had quit raining, but the skies were still ugly and it just wasn't something we were willing to chance. I called the dining line and cancelled our LTT ADR and booked us for Boatwright's Dining Hall (click for review) over at Riverside instead.

We headed over to Boatwright's for our dinner a little early, hoping they could accommodate us. They did, and we had a decent meal there. It was what happened after the meal that would turn this vacation on its ear.

I've thought long and hard about how much I'm going to share about what happened to me. Please do not ask me to elaborate further.

When we arrived at Boatwright's, I left the ECV in the waiting area in front of the podium. I was not aware how large this restaurant was. Never having been here, I also was not aware, nor were we told, there was a ramp available for me to drive the ECV right up to the second floor where we would be seated.

The hostess seating us told me it would be a "long walk" to our seats, motioning to my crutches. We ended up going up the ramp, around some tables, and were eventually seated in front of a small fireplace right next to the kitchen doors.

When we were leaving, my right crutch hit some food that had been spilled on the floor beside a table. The table was empty - the food on the floor hadn't been cleaned up. My crutch went out from under me and, to keep from falling to the floor, I put my injured right foot down HARD to catch myself. My husband dropped our leftovers and caught me underneath the arms to help keep me from hitting the ground.

I spoke to the restaurant manager. I won't go into details about our discussion.

On our way back to FQ, we by chance had a quick run-in with Dancegrl (Meghan) and her family. Meghan, it was such a pleasure meeting you and your husband and children. Your kids are so adorable and your hubby is such a nice guy! I wish we'd had a chance to hang out and get to know each other more. I hope you ended up enjoying the rest of your trip!! Sorry I "ran" off so quickly, but I had to go attend to my foot. I hope you understand. :flower3:

As soon as we hit the room, I noticed how swelled my foot was and we called for extra pillows so I could prop it up.

Let's just say we had problems with the staff getting us what we needed and leave it at that. And no, it wasn't just pillows and no it wasn't just housekeeping we had a problem with. You may not have the same opinion, nor the same experience, and that's fine - I'm not going to debate about it. I'm not saying don't stay there - it's a clean, lovely resort with generally friendly staff - but our experience with a few of the staff members was sub-par considering the situation.

I don't feel comfortable sharing more (please do not PM me and ask), but after our experiences I did ask to be moved to a different resort the following day.

Wednesday, September 19th

This was our don't-really-know-what-we're-doing day, remember? What we ended up doing today was changing resorts.

After a long evening Tuesday, and after a discussion with the manager at FQ, I decided I no longer wanted to stay there. Again, I won't go into details.

We had reservations for breakfast at Kona Cafe. The manager at FQ kindly had called ahead for them to hold our ADR because we were going to be late.

We took the bus to MK, then headed up to the monorail to go to the Poly. I boarded the monorail on the ECV, then turned it off. I assumed, like the buses, that I wasn't allowed to stay seated on it. :confused3

Short story made shorter, the monorail worker allowed the doors to close while I was still standing on my crutches (before I was seated), and I fell onto the seat and hurt my wrist on my crutch.

Spent most of our breakfast at Kona crying like a big baby. At least the meal was good. (click for review)

After breakfast, we received a call from the manager at FQ saying he had found us a place to be moved - Saratoga Springs. So we headed back to FQ to pack up our stuff. Little did I know, my second surprise was already on its way ...

-----------------------------------------------------

Up next, my second surprise!

While we were packing up our stuff to move over to Saratoga Springs, there was a knock at the door, and my second surprise arrived.

My husband had ordered flowers for me from the Disney Florist! Yes, I have photos! No, I still can't get Photobucket to work! :sad2:

It was the "You and Me" bouquet with two roses in a vase with a sterling silver bracelet charm. It was truly lovely. It had a white rose with red edges and a deep red rose along with some stuff that looked like baby's breath, but wasn't. It also had leaves placed just so they made the shape of the outline of a heart outside the vase. Very pretty!

Well, I cried again, but this time from happiness! My husband had done it again. I was so surprised, to say the least. I thought the carriage ride and Mickey ring were it, but not so.

I promise, as soon as I can get Photobucket to upload my stupid photos, I'll post a pic.

It was lovely meeting you as well! I'm so sorry that we caught you after a not so great evening. We would have loved to stay and chat more too, but Cole was getting antsy.

We did have a wonderful trip, but that first day (Tuesday) was rough! That thunderstorm was scary and we were at AK!

I hope your foot is on the mend!

Not going to ask for more, but I just wanted to send you a big hug!

Thank you.

So glad to hear your trip was great! I'm waiting on your TR! popcorn:: I remember you saying you had been at AK that day - it's so open there from what I remember, not many places to get in out of the rain.

My foot is here and there, thank you for asking. Seems like it's one step forward and three steps back with it, but I'll get there eventually. ;)

Wednesday, September 19th (continued)

Sorry to keep doing this in such short segments ... the trip gets pretty boring from here on out, so I'm trying to stretch it ... :crazy2:

After the flowers were delivered, we continued packing up our things. Housekeeping showed up to clean the room (around us :confused3 ), then Bell Services knocked on the door to take our bags to SSR.

We arrived at SSR and can I just say WOW! This place is HUGE. It's like a small village. We were greeted by a friendly, "Welcome Home!" by the gate guard and explained why we were there. He directed us to the check-in building.

My husband went and checked us in, then we drove the very short distance over to the Springs section. "Welcome Home" is right. We were put into a 1 bedroom villa on the 4th floor. It was more like moving into a small apartment than a hotel room! My husband opened the door and said, "I don't think I can stay at POP again." :rolleyes1

I had looked into DVC resorts briefly for our 15th anniversary stay in 2014, but not in-depth by any means. It really is different, top to bottom, than staying anywhere else.

To say the staff here is incredible is truly an understatement. They are friendly, courteous, and in a word ... awesome! :woohoo: In the three days we were here, we completely fell in love with the place. We love the decor, we love the layout, we loved everything about it!

Again, I have pics ... :sad2:

We had lunch soon after we arrived at Artist's Palatte (click for review). We had reservations for Grand Floridian Cafe for dinner, but we ended up cancelling that and going back to DTD after the concierge got us a last-minute ADR at T-Rex (review coming soon).

------------------------------------------

Up next ... DTD at night and yes, I fell yet again ... :sad1:

I just stumbled upon your TR after wondering how your trip was. I joined in on the thread that you started for roll call for Sept. at POFQ..I'm so sorry to hear that your trip did not go as planned. I was wondering about you and others from the thread when we were at POFQ. I was looking for lime green mickeys but I didn't see any. We were only there for a few days..Thats terrible that you had a bad experience at POFQ. Saratoga Springs does look like a beautiful resort. I hope to stay there sometime. Im looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip and read your dining reviews.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck you had on your trip :( I'm glad to hear things worked out in that you got upgraded to a deluxe - SSR is my home resort (I recently bought DVC)...we walked over on that very rainy Tuesday when we were done at Disney Quest to catch the bus to DTD - the resort is so beautiful! I can't wait to stay one day. Can't wait to see your pictures.

Goodness! Your DH sure shined among the poop that was happening!! I imagine the flowers were among the most beautiful that you had seen and I would have shed buckets of tears of joy for the awesomeness! :) You are a blessed woman with your sweet DH!

I've never stayed at SSR but I do think it is beautiful. We did the DVC tour with their villas and wow! I love that SSR is so close to DTD too.

I hope your foot is on the road to recovery now.

Hello Darling,

Well, I just got caught up. I'm at a loss for words, and feel so bad for you. I know how badly it can suck when your expectations are so HIGH for a trip and EVERYTHING goes wrong. That happened to me last year when I went to California to visit my Dad. Long story short, it was the WORST vacation EVER... I cried night after night because it sucked so much. My Dad ended up in the emergency room and hospital for 10 of the 12 days we were there. Maybe one day I'll laugh about it and share with ya.

Anyway.... On a plus side... You have one amazing husband. Do you think he could talk to mine and convince him to be a little more romantic and spontanious? :confused3

I'm glad you were switched to a better hotel. That part sounds amazing. I've always wanted to stay there and can't wait to read more about your experience there. I sure hope we don't have the same problems you did at riverside? Now I'm worried.

I hope things are well for you right now my friend. PM me if ya wanna talk. :flower3:
