Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

When I did our online checkin it asked what the earliest time u would check in would be an I chose 7 am- not that it will be ready but fingers crossed:)

The check-in time just lets them know when you are going to need your welcome package. They don't do them all in a batch the night before, they are made up during the day and it may mean that yours might be prepared just an hour or two in advance of your arrival. That way, in most cases at least, they can make sure the room they are assigning you is actually ready.

That's the idea anyway, it obviously can't ALWAYS work if lots of people check-in at the same sort of time, but if they can give you your room straight away that's what they'd prefer to do.

Can someone tell me if there are benches on the walkway between POFQ and POR. My mom might need a place to sit on the way over

Thanks y'all!!! I just did online check in and put early also!!! I cant wait!!! I also want to request building four if possible... One site said thw best thing to do is fax. I tried to put a request on the check in page but it wouldnt let me... Anyone had experience doing this?

Well replying to my own question... Just saw some older posts saying to call! Will do!!!

This will be our fourth time at POFQ... I cant get my family to think abt another resort...they love it there!! So do I!! Cant wait!!!

I've seen the sticky under transportation but that is for all resorts

Is there anything posted on getting from point A to point B specifically from POFQ? I would love to add route directions onto my touring cards - mostly for our morning ADRs at resorts and then getting to the parks.

I've recently read reports of bus waits in excess of an hour - that is one reason we chose FQ to hopefully have good bus transporation. I will have an ECV and I've read where buses may be full or drivers don't want to mess with them making the wait time longer.

This is our first time on property and I would love for it to go smoothly :thumbsup2

Yes there are, although be warned that some are also designated smoking areas.

Correct, fax is the resort's preferred option. Room assignments are handled by a single team for the combined POR and POFQ resort (they are based backstage over at POR in fact) and the Port Orleans team does read their faxes, despite what some people might say about other resorts.

Hello everyone,

I have booked our very first family vacation to WDW for June 3 to June 9, 2013. We are staying @ POFQ. Is there or are there specific areas you would suggest over others? I would love to stay in one of the Royal rooms we are booked in a standard. Are there tips on getting an upgrade? From what I have read so far the chance of an upgrade seems to decrease if you flat out ask for one. Does this seem to be true?
Thanks in advance for your help. I haven't been to WDW since 1994 when I was single. I want this trip to be spectacular.

The Royal Rooms are quite frequently booked way ahead of time and as your dates fall when school is out for summer, chances are slim that you would be upgraded, but no harm in trying right. :coffee:

Also, the Royal Rooms are at Port Orleans Riverside (POR), not Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ).

We've been back home for 5 days and I'm really missing my 'other home' at POFQ

I want to send a letter complimenting a few specific CM's from POFQ. I know I can use the general WDW address but I want something to go to the resort as well. To whom and how do I address this and is there an email option?

Thanks in advance :goodvibes

Leaving for the airport in 11 hours and 43 minutes, not that I'm watching the clock tick or anything.:hourglass

LOL Its my first trip to this resort, my friends did one night room only last year. Its going to be interesting with 4 adults in one room, but I'm sure we'll have a blast. I'll be online off and on so if anyone has anything they need me to check, let me know.

How long are you staying? The reason I ask is that we will be three adults next September and I'm waffling between POFQ and POR. The only thing keeping me from POFQ is the pool, which I'm not crazy about. I know we can use POR's, but if we do that, we might as well stay there. If you use the pool, I'd be interested to know your take on it.

we are checking in in 13 days! i read that across the street from DTD there is a hess station where we could buy water. the thread was a little old so I was curious if anyone knew if this was still available. also if its walking distance from DTD. I was thinking of doing this instead of shipping just a case of water from walmart, because this seems more cost effective. thanks in advance!

I don't know if it is still there and everyone values their time and effort differently but to me I would much prefer to pay 97 cents shipping than spending a minimum of 20 minutes/half hour and then having to lug a case of water on the bus back to the resort.

Thanks for the info Andre. I assumed with the new reservation. System all resorts stopped doing faxes. I just have my requests on my reservation. Would sending a fax still be better then having requests on reservation?

so i think you may be right that it would be easier to ship water to the resort then to go to the HESS near DTD. Now my other question is, we arrive on 10/13. how long will POFQ hold my shipment? how many days in advance should i order it? Thanks.

Thank god I found these boards! :thumbsup2

The October 2012 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules for Port Orleans French Quarter are now available, see the main Recreation Activities Schedule page for full-size PDF versions, or click on the images below.

The outdoor movies will start at 8pm and the daily campfires commence at 6:30pm. A separate schedule will be released for Halloween closer to the end of the month.

They'll hold it for some time if necessary, but ideally aim to get it there within about a week of your arrival.
