Using points from your second home resort.

If I have 100 points in AKL and 25 in SSR and want to book at SSR, do I have to have enough just for SSR to book there at 11 months, or do they take the combined points? Do you have to have them in your account to book or can you book knowing they will be added in the next 11 months before your trip? Thank you so much!

You cannot combine points from different home resorts until the 7 month booking window opens.

With 25 SSR points, at 11 months you have a maximum of 75 points to use at SSR, by banking the previous years points, using current years points and borrowing the following years points.

So what you are saying is if I wanted to stay at SSR and book at 11 months, I would have to have the points available to do the booking. Otherwise, I wait until 7 months, combine my SSR and AKL and book at one of them at that time. Right? Thanks!

Correct. You can only use SSR points to book SSR at 11 months.

Yes. You could actually use the SSR points to book as many nights as possible at 11 months, and then book the remaining nights using the AKV points at 7 months. But if you use the all-or-nothing approach, you could not book the entire stay until 7 months.

I assume then ppl must book at home resort at 11 months and then at the 7 month, try to change the ressie?

If you want to stay somewhere besides your home resort for a given trip, then yes.

I am wondering how many ppl actually get other than their home resort. Are most of the DVC's filled once the 7 month window opens?

It depends on the time of year. Obviously Christmas and New Year's are difficult to get anything other than your home resort. But the entire fall into the early part of winter (October through mid-January) is the busiest time for DVC, making it difficult to get exactly what you want at 7 months. Beach Club and Boardwalk during the Food and Wine Festival, BLT during the Halloween and Christmas party seasons and Wilderness Lodge during the Christmas season can be very difficult to get without owning there.

If you have the ability to plan more than 7 months in advance, I'd advise you to purchase where you like to stay. If you can't plan that far out, pick the cheapest resort you don't mind staying at a lot.

We have managed to stay at all WDW DVCs except VWL at 7 months and much closer. Our home resort is BLT.

I actually had booked boardwalk 1 bedroom for food and wine oct 3-9th with no problem at seven months. And I had put a waitlist request for Beach Club 1bedroom and received the waitlist the following day.

We never change our minds on where we stay so it's just a matter of reservations @ the 7 month mark ASAP! We do this ALL the time!! ;) We have so far ONLY stayed at BCV, VGC or just recently Aulani & getting reservations @ 7 months of the latter 2 resorts has not been a problem. We are like most everyone who needs to reserve during school vacation time but because we live SO close to DLR we can work around this issue! :thumbsup2 We have only had to schedule home resort BCV for our 2 week winter breaks so just 11 months out is all that's needed. Majority of DVC points is with BCV in 2 different UY (Purchased resale 2008) then bought VGC direct through Disney placed in 1 of the BCV UY. At this time we are lucky to be "grand fathered" in to still use The Disney Collection & sometimes is needed for 1 night stay in DL Hotels. :worship:

We are hoping to be able to make ressies at BLT for September of next year at the 7 month mark, keeping fingers crossed.

If you have a second home resort, and you need to make the ressies at the 7 month mark, are there any priorities given at that point since it is a home resort?

No. At 7 months every single owner has equal rights to whatever openings remain.

as i mentioned before, you really should read this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2998742

to repeat what i said there: it is the points that have home resort priority, not you as an individual. if you are using BLT points, you have home resort priority at BLT for a BLT reservation. but if you are using non-BLT pts, you only have access at 7 months out (even if you own a BLT contract separately.)

This is how a lot of members use their points. We always book rooms at the 11-month point using our home resort(s) to ensure we'll have someplace to stay for the trip. This allows us to arrange for vacation time from work and start looking for airline tickets. When we get to the 7-month point, we'll think about whether we want to try for a different resort. When we were new DVC members, we did an awful lot of banking and borrowing, because we didn't like to do spit stays. We'd always try to have enough points at one resort to do the full trip. Now, we've pretty much changed our way of thinking, and like doing at least two different resorts for our two-week summer trips. That's made using our home resort priorities a little easier.

One thing you have to be careful with is the fact that different resorts and different views require different points. If, for example, you own at BLT and book a one-bedroom at the 11 month point, then want to change to say OKW at the 7-month point, you're going to have a bunch of points left over after you swap out the reservations. You need to be mindful of whether you'll be able to use or bank those leftover points. How many points from which use years did you use for the original reservation? How many points will the new reservation use? How does that number of points match up with any banking and borrowing you've already done? Where does the 7-month booking window fall in relation to your current use year's banking deadline?

I've owned for 12 years and have never not been able to get what I wanted at 7 months. I've stayed at all the WDW DVC resorts except SSR. 7 months at SSR should not be a problem, except a THV.
