I have reading this board for so long and I am beyond excited to finally add my planning journal!

About Us:
We have a very interesting story! We met in September 2009 at a party. i actually dated his friend first (poor choice) and Dylan and I got to talking and flirting over Facebook. He asked me out officially in February. Our first date was at his place where he made me dinner and homemade mint chocolate cheesecake. We dated for two years and Disney was a huge part of our relationship. We actually broke up in May of 2011 and were apart for a year. We both did a lot of growing up and in July of this year, Dylan asked me out again. He took me to Victoria and Alberts for our new first date. it was the most amazing meal of my life and if you haven't done it, go ahead and make a reservation. It is absoluetly worth it.

This August, we found out that Dylan has cancer. It is highly treatable and he will be fine but he has to go through chemo for the next 10 months. That put everything in perspective for us and we leanred how much we meant to each other and how much we love each other. We decided that we were going to get marrried when he got better. We had talked about all different places and ideas but what I have always wanted was a Disney wedding so that is what we are having.

Proposal:
Well, the official one hasn't happened yet. This whole cancer thing just gets in the way! (You have to make jokes to keep from crying, right?) We have a Disney trip planned for this December with lunch reservations at Cinderella's castle. I'm pretty positive that its going to happen then, it just depends on if he is well enough to go. I'm wearing a ring he gave me when we were first together as a place-holder for the real one but I've already picked it out!

The Wedding:
Right now, we are looking at October 2014. I would really like Halloween but I'm pretty open. I would have loved to do a Memories wedding but Dylan wants his siblings there so we are doing an Escape. I think Sea Breeze Point is the best option. I would have loved Sunrise Terrece but may as well have more people. Since we are waiting, we have a bit more room in our budget than we originally planned but I'm still going to try to stick to the minimum as much as possible. I will be adding some extra champagne and cider as well as some munchies to go with the cake if possible. I have worked in weddings and I have really learned that I don't need a lot. Luckily, all the venues are beautiful without decoration. I don't plan on doing a reception but maybe a lunch somewhere after if it is in the budget. Our family understands that we want to keep everything small. We will be going to MNSSHP on our wedding night! This is really the only detail besides having a wedding at Disney that I absolutely want.

So stay tuned for more details!

After talking with my hubby-to-be last night, we have decided to have a Dessert Party at the Grand the next day. Since we can't invite everyone we know to our wedding, we can invite them to a DP. If we get Halloween, the next day is a Saturday which is an easier day for people to travel. this does bump our budget up a little bit but honestly, Dps really aren't too bad and they lok super fun. I want it at the Grand because that is my favorite place in the world.

Super early in the game, but subscribing anyway!

I'm really sorry to hear about the cancer, but thank goodness it can be treated. I can't wait to see how everything turns out for you two.

Like you I am awaiting the actual proposal but we have talked marriage. I am looking at same montha s you for an Escape wedding.

Good luck to your future hubby with the treatments and I look forward to reading your plans.

Thank you! We are staying positive.

I am local so I might scope out the locations soon. I will try to put pictures on here!

I am so glad to read that I am not the only one on these boards that aren't engaged YET!! And yes we have talked about our wedding too. We are also looking at October 2014 but having the wedding at Aulani.

I am sorry to hear about the cancer, I will keep you both in my prayers. Looking forward to hearing about your plans.

Jodi

Also joining in. Your story is really touching. I'm so sorry to hear your future hubby has to deal with that, I really can't even imagine what it must be like. But it's fabulous that you two are staying positive, are able to fight the cancer, and plan your dream wedding! It's going to be magical. I can't wait to hear all about it!

So I'm thinking of going with a theme for the wedding. My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid but I'm not a fan of beach themed weddings. I was also thinking of a very elegant Alice in Wonderland theme. I just love all the Disney movies! Can you do a theme on a tight budget?

Joining in...sounds like you really have a great outlook on life and your future together. As a (very wise) friend of mine always says, every mountain has an "other side" and on the other side of yours is a wedding. :goodvibes

A halloween wedding...oh, how I wish I could get away with that (Df wouldn't have it :rolleyes2) and, as I said in another thread earlier, Alice in Wonderland is my dream theme. This could be my new favourite thread. :hyper:

That's not to say a Little Mermaid theme wouldn't be awesome (one of my favourite movies too). I'm sure you could do something amazing in an "under the sea" kind of way that steers away from the typical beach style wedding. I love themes and I firmly believe that you can do anything on a budget with enough brainstorming and research. :surfweb:

Look forward to seeing how it all comes together!

Thank you, what a sweet message. I actually went to SBP yesterday and you really don't have to do too much to it.

I've been toying with the idea of making it The Little Mermaid/Enchantment under the Sea Dance (from Back to the Future) themed. Think a classy 50s prom in sea foam and peach. My fiance and I love that movie and I think I could do a subtle mermaid theme without making it feel like its a bech wedding.

Oh, then it will be Df's favourite thread too! Back to the Future is his favourite movie!

Both of my chief bridesmaids are actually planning their own weddings at the moment and one of them is going with those colours - there are some great mood boards out there, I'll send you some links if you need them. I've mostly seen those colours used in vintage themes, where they look gorgeous - I imagine they could make for a really classy, subtle under the sea type feel. It makes me think more of a beautifully illustrated fairytale about a mermaid than cartoon fish etc. I hope that's a good thing! :rotfl:

Yes, we have decided on Hawaii instead of WDW. I was crunching numbers and we could pay for the Memories package, flights, rooms,a nd lunch after the wedding with the same amount we were planning to spend here. I wanted out wedding to be an experience more than just a day and I want to travel. My mother has also always wanted to go to Hawaii and I'm giving her this trip because she has given so much to me.

It might end up being a Vow Renewal since we might get legally married next year and have the Hawaii wedding the next.

Welcome!! Love your story of taking some time apart and now getting back together- sorry to hear your future hubby was diagnosed with cancer, but glad he is able to fight it- sounds like they found it early on! We went to Aulani for our HM and it is amazing. Theyre doing a bunch more updates now too! Also a thought- there are two chapels within walking distance of Aulani if you wanted to have the ceremony there and not through Disney directly- not sure of the other two chapel's pricing, but you could definitely stay at Aulani and then walk over for the ceremony to the other chapels. One of them even shares the same lagoon with Aulani and couples came out to take their pictures on the beach the whole week and a half we were there! I think they are making additional wedding spaces at Aulani now as well! Looking forward to your plans! :goodvibes

googled and here are the other chapels! :)

I visited Aulani while on the Disney Cruise to Hawaii and it is an perfect choice! I have never seen someting so beautiful!

Just found your thread, and wow it sounds very similar to my relationship with my bf :) We starting dating in Feb 2011 and he made me dinner at his apt while we watched the superbowl. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer right before our 1 year anniversary and is doing well now! Definently keep positive! It's tough watching your loved one fighting chemo and everything that comes with it, but you'll get through it stronger and better! We've also had random talks of marriage but no proposal yet for me... My dream wedding ideas have bounced from castaway cay to the swan to aulani.. lol! Love your theme ideas! I was all over tric8783's pj and Aulani looks fabulous!

Aulani sounds like a fantastic idea! Will you keep your Little Mermaid/Enchantment under the Sea theme, but I have to say that is an amazingly clever idea for a theme!
