observations of EMH so far

We 're here now and here are some things I 've observed

1. This week has been fairly crowded, not peak of summer crowded, but not empty either. Wednesday was very crowded. I think it was a Jewish holiday that many schools had off. They extended hours that day.

2. EMH for 10am opening -is great but people start lining up at security a little more than an hour before it starts. All 3 days the security tent on the left coming from downtown Disney has been the only one open. Then they open the other tent about 30 minutes until the hour. Security won 't let guests line up on the right side one until there is someone manning it. We have watched that tent every morning and as soon as we saw a cast member there scooted over to that line and have been first through security. All three days they have held guests at security until 15 to 10 min before EMH.

4. Carsland "wide right" works great, although I don 't know how well it would work if you werent one of the first groups through the turnstyles.

3. Many many people are very confused about EMH/MM. On Wednesday we did EMH at DL. My DH and I had been discussing why there was a massive line at security on the Harbor side of the esplanade. When we got through security most of the lines at turnstyles were 10 to 15 people deep. The two families in front of us were turned away because they weren't hotel guests. I saw this happen to people in the line next to ours too. Guests were confused at DCA on Tues and Thurs but cast members were moving up and down the lines informing people that EMH was for hotel guests only.

4. Here 's what we were able to get done in DCA during that hour.

RSR, LFT, MJJ by 9:40 with very fast bathroom break. Then DH got in FP line while I took the kids to TSMM rode 2X both mornings. As we got off about 10:15 DH had FP for RSR. (Around 11:30 return both times)Timing was about as perfect as it gets. At that point TSMM had its usual 40 min line. Timing for the second ride on TSMM was close. My kids are 7 and 9 so they can move quickly. If they were smaller we might not have been able to ride twice.

We were there from Thursday until this past Monday. I tried the wide right on Monday...it was a 10 am opening. We were at the gates by about 8:20. We had to wait about 20 mins just to get inside. Then, we waited 20 by the rope. By the time we got to RSR the wait time was 45 minutes. It took an hour though because it broke down for about 15 mins.

Good luck!!!

I can see that happening. I swear every guest at the DLR hotels was in line for EMH. I 'm sort of hoping the weekend won 't be as bad for EMH. It will be at 7am and I m hoping that will whittle down the crowds somewhat in that hour.

I think too that the 10am (9am EMH) opening makes it very easy for folks to get up for the extra hour. I wonder if it would be less busy with earlier openings as some just would not get up?

So where do you line up for EMH? At the security tents? Then where do you go from there? We have a group of 10 going and I just want to make sure we do things right. ;)

Exactly. I guess I 'll find out this weekend! There certainly a lot of people there during the week. I think if your going on a weekday with 10 am opening for EMH it pays off to be there no later 8:10. A few minutes makes a huge difference.

This week they are holding people at security tents until about 8:45. Then they let people stream into the espanade. The EMH turnstyles are the ones towards the middle of DCA gate. Then they hold you there for about ten minutes. Then speed walk to carsland where they have a rope. We were held there for about 2 minutes before walked back to Carsland. At least that's what happened this week. Opening proceedures often change.

That's what we experienced last week. The 7am EMH on Saturday was less busy than the 9am EMH on Friday.

Thank you for the explanation. We haven't been to DCA since they remodeled everything, but hopefully we can plan our route on Saturday.

We're using the EMH on Sunday to do CL, which is 7-8am. What time should we arrive if we're going that early? 6:30? Our plan is to ride RSR and then get FP when the parks opens.

We'll be staying there on Saturday and Sunday as well :) .... from my previous experience, 6:30 is about when the first folks start lining up at the GCH-DCA entrance.

Sounds good...thanks! I'm thinking we'll spend a few hours in the park and then take a little siesta in the afternoon...I am so NOT a morning person! :crazy2:

How would a 7:40am surfs up breakfast work with security? Park opens at 9am on the Friday we have reservations for. We are staying on harbor. I would hate to miss breakfast due to them not allowing us through. I'll be by myself with 2 little ones and am not comfortable walking on katella alone.

Surf's Up is in the Paradise Pier Hotel, so if there is no one at security you can just go on through and pass by the parks. If you were to line up at the park gates without going through security they would send you back, but if you just pass through you are fine.
