Slings... Carry Speed or Black rapids...

I like the plate attachment better for the carry speed.

I've seen some good reviews for black rapids but those who talk about carry speed say they prefer them to the BR counterparts.

Anyone here spend a week in Disney with one or both?

I love my Black Rapid strap, but have changed out the connector for a Carry Speed. I like the way it allows you to leave the tripod plate attached to it.

That's why I was thinking go all carry speed, I prefer the mount of CS.
I'm thinking the CS-pro is the way to go, comes with a free unistrap right now too.

I have the Carry Speed and love it. Now that I've moved to mirrorless usually just use a wrist strap.

I've only ever used the Black Rapid setup and I love it. The Carry Speed setup does look pretty cool, though.

For what it's worth, I'm a big guy and the Black Rapid strap is adjustable to fit me. I never really had a reason to do a quick move between strap and tripod, but I could see where not having to disconnect to mount on the tripod would lower chances of the camera getting dropped.

I would say either would likely do well. I can say I absolutely love that way of carrying my camera. Keeping it in the bag sometimes made me miss a shot. Having it in gunslinger mode was always great to pull up and get a shot. At least that's how the BR strap works.

Glad to hear it. Does the plate mount require you to remove it to change the battery.

It looks like on the Canon T4i, I might have to remove it. Not that I change batteries a lot, I'm just curious. I don't think one battery would last me for a 12 hour MK day... I don't have to quick change batteries, I can do that sitting down or something as opposed to having people possibly bumping into me when working with a tripod.

I have only used the BR. I have two RS-4's with coupleR straps to convert to a two camera system. I swear by the BR system. I carry larger lenses that the system accomodates very well. No more sore necks.

I have the custom slr full strap set up. It is great I had it in disney for 5 days. zero shoulder pain at all.

I use a Blackrapid with a fastener adapter to work with the Manfrotto RC2 quick release plates for Manfrotto heads. It basically replaces the tripod screw on the Manfrotto plate with a stronger screw and ring that you would then clip the Blackrapid to. So the plate stays on the camera all the time and you would just unclip the Blackrapid when you want to mount it to your tripod.

It's very fast and simple to swap between the strap and tripod. I like the padding and extra pockets the RS5 has. I've done several days at Disney World and my camera has never been in my bag.

I have a BR strap. When I got it, I didn't use my tripod very often. However, when I did it was a pain to remove the strap and then I didn't have any security should it tip over.

After reading tips on here, I bought a little attachment from OP Tech that goes where the regular strap goes. I then attach the BR strap to it, and lately have been keeping my tripod plate on my camera. So much easier and secure.

I looked at the Carry Speed and read that the neoprene stretches. Not sure I'd like that, plus being a scuba diver, neoprene retains heat. I hot blooded enough and don't need more heat in muggy SC! So I'll keep my BR!

Yes, it does. That's the configuration I'm using.

However, changing it out requires cutting the Black Rapid strap -- at least it did for the RS-7. There's a tab at the very end of the strap that prevents it from coming out through the plastic piece you use to adjust the length of the strap. It can be easily sewn back on after swapping out the connector. I cut it off right at the end as close to this piece as I could get. I only lost about 1/4" off the end of the strap.

This is the piece that needs to be cut off the Black Rapid RS-7. (Shown here after I've sewn it back on.) Tip: after cutting the nylon strap, melt the end a little with a lighter to prevent it from fraying.


You have to cut it off, because it won't fit through this piece. Another tip: take a photo of how this piece is on the strap before taking it off. Don't re-live my frustration.


This is what the Carry Speed connector looks like on the Black Rapid strap. I wish it was a little wider, but it works well enough.

I have a Black Rapid strap, but I don't use it anymore. That's because of something my friend Scott Diussa shared. He works for Nikon Professional Services and brought up some horror stories about straps that hold a camera by the tripod mount.

Basically, he said that mount was never designed to support the weight of the camera that way. He's seen a number of damaged cameras because of cracks and failures there, where the camera succumbed to gravity and hit the ground.

I used the RS-Sport 2 in Disney during my last trip, 5 days, I never once took the strap off, even when I didn't have the camera, I usually forgot it was there, it fit in perfectly with my backpack straps, and it was extremely comfortable. No strain at all from holding my T2i with the somewhat hefty 24-105mm, or the smaller but still fairly bulky 16-35mm on it. I even left it on during my Around the World on a Segway tour so I could swing it up for quick shots at each country. (not while moving... mostly )

The strap held up fine, and it feels quite secure, and can be easily adjusted for maximum comfort on each wearer, as well as locking in the range of the strap that the camera can slide across. When the camera was stowed it hung upside down to my right side, I had a hood on to protect the lens and I felt very comfortable with it there. It also slides up easily if you want to sit and let the body rest on your lap.

An added bonus, its easy to hook your elbow inside the strap and put light tension on it to held steady the camera (it's easier to pull against a light force and hold that position than to hold a heavy camera steady against gravity). That, plus IS on the 24-105mm and generous ISO settings yielded excellent low light photos.
