Any of the gurus out there able to tell me where to find an extended refurb schedule?

Forgive me if this was already posted somewhere else, but can any of the gurus who know where to find all of the information that is out there tell me where I may be able to find advance schedules for refurbs?

We are really hoping to make a 3 day D-Land trip in early December so we can experience all the Christmas stuff before the crowds start. If we are unable to make that trip, we will most likely have to wait until the end of January/early February. I read that they do a lot of refurbs then because it's in between the Christmas rush and Spring Break. I just want to know what to expect.

My son just had a growth spurt and is now 40 inches tall, so tall enough to ride some of the bigger rides. I don't want him to get all excited about certain rides if he won't be able to go on them.

Right now, he is really excited about BTMRR (he calls it the crazy train).

The DIS/WDWinfo, miceage, and mouseplanet all do a pretty good job of keeping up with the refurbs that have been announced. Problem is, while DLR announces a few of them well in advance, most are announced just a month or two in advance. And some are done very last minute, as issues are discovered. So you can never really know.

That said, you should know that Al Lutz, in his latest article, has said that BTMRR will go down for rehab on Jan 14, 2013, and be down for most of the year. Now, Al isn't an official source, so this can be considered rumor. But Al is right a lot more than he's wrong about these things.

I just discovered that the first week of December is predicted to be packed (not sure why, as I have gone the 2nd week of December before and it was dead). I figured right in between Thanksgiving break and Christmas break would be a great time to go, but maybe not.

Any ideas why December 3rd-6th is predicted to be crowded? That's a Tuesday-Thursday, which school is supposed to be in session!

Now, the last week of January is supposed to be totally dead, but my son is going to be totally bummed if he doesn't get to ride BTMRR.

What to do......what to do.........?

IEEE Globecom conference is during those dates. The Disneyland Hotel is there base so I would imagine it will highly booked up, but I wouldn't think that would mean the Parks will be busy --- until maybe the evenings if they have twilight tickets.

Knowing where you heard it will be packed could help.

We went Wed-Sat of that week two years ago. It was quiet on Wed, Thurs, and Friday morning but got CRAZY crowded Friday night and Sat. There was the Candlelight Processional and a BIG sale in Downtown Disney that required crowd control and people in lines everywhere. I wonder if both of those events are happening that same weekend plus add in the Cars Land crowds.

Thanks for the info on this. Do you happen to know how large that conference is? I'm still debating between staying a night on the 8th or the 15th but if this is a huge conference I might be better off waiting until the week after.

There are always conferences going on. I would not plan around them. They just do not influence things that much.

I know there are always conferences, but if this is a very large one that is going to suck up a lot of hotel rooms at the DLH then I might not want to take my chances. I don't want to pay $450+ for a hotel room only to be told on Saturday afternoon that I can't get my room until 6pm because the entire conference checked out that morning and they couldn't clean all of the rooms fast enough.

I think somebody told me that the crowd predictor site said it was expected to be crowded that week.

I'm a member of IEEE and have been to many of their conferences during my career, though never to GlobeCom. I'd guess it would be a medium sized conference. Judging by other specialty conferences put on by IEEE, I'd guess the attendance to be anywhere from several hundred to perhaps a couple thousand. Not huge by any means, but not tiny either.

So, this thread caused me to look up Globecom's web site. Convention hotel rates -- $169 at DLH, $189 at GCH. Wowzers. I may have to get my employer to send me Of course, conference registration starts at $850 for an IEEE member, or $460 for one conference day.
